Blues and Palace Linked With Baldock Talks
Blues and Palace Linked With Baldock Talks
Sunday, 10th Jun 2012 12:48

Crystal Palace and Town are in talks with West Ham regarding the signing of striker Sam Baldock, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. TWTD reported the Blues’ interest in the 23-year-old former MK Dons frontman a month ago.

Baldock, who joined the Hammers last August for a fee which could ultimately be worth £2.75 million with add-ons, would appear to be surplus to requirements at Upton Park since their promotion having made only 11 starts and 13 sub appearances since his move, scoring five goals.

West Ham are likely to want to recoup the fee they paid for Baldock but if they are unable to negotiate a permanent deal may be prepared to send the Aylesbury Vale-born striker out on loan for the season. Hull City have also been linked.

Crystal Palace are also believed to have beaten Bristol City and Brighton to the signature of ex-Norwich frontman Aaron Wilbraham, who was understood to be interesting the Blues in January.

Don't know too much about him, but felt that West Ham overpaid when they bought him last year. Got off to a flying start for them then seemed to disappear. Looks decent enough on the youtube video, but then so did Priskin, so can't rely on this! Not overly keen on a loan, so would depend on the transfer fee and wages. Would be a bit of a gamble, given that he isn't really proven at Championship level and the likely investment required...

Seen the clips of him, some of you have no idead do you? Exactly what we need bit of pace and movement up front, Chopra is completly different he does not have that kind of pace and workrate.

Is Scotland signing a new deal and is Ellington leaving and are we giving Murray a go

We may need 2 or 3 Strikers depending on what the above 3 do

If Scotland and Ellington more on and we send Murray out on loan again Balldock could be a good signing

We only get the players no-one else wants. He'll go to Palace where they develop youth.

We r not selling zaha unless a huge offer comes in!! I hope we get baldock like we did ward!! U r not in the position 2 buy big players no more u will take gambles on lower league players I no this as lee Martin is my neighbour (beckenham) and he will not sign a new contract unless jewell n Evans show more ambition which they won't!! By the way 1 of our 4 chairman is 32 in the rich list in football so 4 us having no money think again!!

"West Ham are likely to want to recoup the fee they paid for Baldock..."

I wish when we signed players that didn't make it at the club that we could recoup the fees we paid!

Baldock sounds a decent striker, although like most I'd prefer permanent signings than loans.

I don't know much about him, but £2.75 million would seem like a large chunk of our likely limited transfer budget. A goalkeeper and a centre half are the priorities.

He was their best player when he came off the bench against us. Worked our defenders ragged.

Do you know something I'm getting really fed up with some of the negative comments on here. I bet some of you are a real bundle of laughs in life, such good company down the pub.
Will all the miserable bas***ds please bugger off and leave this site to the people who want to see Paul Jewell and the club do well.

i would love him here but i cant see us paying over £1.5m let alone £2.75mil.

I would of preferd sharp last season if we are spending that kind of money imo

WHU fans seem to like him - here's a post to one of their fansites:

I'm not sure we have 2.75m to spend, though...

algarvefan - just a thought - but don't YOU think the person you mention in your post needs to get his act together, and ar#e in gear - then perhaps there would be many less miserable ba##ards for you to knock !!!!

In reality I guess that's something that would never even cross your mind.

...... or of course, just keep knocking the people who want / expect more than you - it obviously suits you to do so.
