Absolutely no issue / problem with this at all. He is merely completing his rehabilitation. And needs to be got to the point where he will be fit for training and games.

I think it's a risk bringing him in but given the fee paid one worth taking, Carlos did a reasonable job last year and I think this is seen as one for the future.

A 18 year old with problems with both hips doesn't bode well for the future I fear and a 3 year deal is very generous .

Elliott Hewitt isn't going to get us promoted next season. Where are the players that will?

Bit disappointing to hear this, but it can't be changed.

Expect the usual Jewell comments come December that 'he missed pre-season, so wont be ready until next year'. Just like Ingimarsson & Ellington 2011

A bit worrying that at his age he's having hip operations. How common is this amongst young players?
He's clearly talented as a player, but will he have the required fitness to carry on in the game? I only hope so,there must be a whole load of people out there who have excellent technical ability with a football but not the required natural level of fitness to play the game at professional level and thus get released at a young age, or have to retire young because of the injury/fitness situation (Dean Ashton being a prime example) I hope this wont happen to Hewitt.

There'sa lot of misplaced anxiety here regarding a young sportsman (common) hip impingement. This IS rectifable and present no long term problems. He does not have hip arthritis.

megamoth, in response to your Redknapp quote I completely agree, we've wasted millions over the last few years on players leaving on free transfers because we've not renewed their contracts, hopefully we've learned from that.
With regards to Jewell, he has to prove himself this year (I'm pro PJ) if he doesn't show significant signs of improvement by the autumn then I don't think his contract should be renewed, I like the guy but if it's not working, it's not working. I can't see Evans offering him a new contract unless he makes improvement.
However, I feel that with players like Hewitt and a few similar additions we'll move in the right direction this year.

Everyone's putting a brave face on it - and that's very admirable and stuff - but come on! This is a RIDICULOUS situation! It's embarrassing and only Town and the increasing desperation of Jewell to sign players could have got us in this position. That the lad has ongoing hip problems is the only reason we landed him. The injured, the forgotten, the non-league chancers and Scottish League players - this is the pool from which Town can realistically attract new signings.

You don't spend hundreds of thousands on an 18 year old in the summer with the intention that the lad won't be a first team player and start the season, unless we're now in the habit of spending that sort of money to bolster the reserves. Which would be an extreme change in transfer policy, I must admit!

Wake up people. This is another balls up. Another flailing last-ditch act of a hamstrung manager, who doesn't appeal to the sort of players we need to acquire, and who will be out sometime in the autumn.

PJ will either get his contracr renewed or will be sacked by December.( or somebody desperate and mangerless might .....)

All for building for the future, so no real issue with this, as I suspect Edwards (the captain) would start in place of him even if fully fit. Ditto if we sign this French chap - I very much doubt he would feature - unless in the Carling Cup.

However, with many weeks passing since the end of last season and a desperate need to significantly improve the team/squad before the first game - it would seem we have yet to sign a single player who is available from game one. There can be no excuse this season about gelling etc - PJ has been in post for a season and a half - so would hope to see a GK, 2 x CB, a CM (one replacement for Bowyer/Leadbitter), Winger (replacement for Murphy) and a Striker signed very soon.

Regarding the promotion argument - PJ was brought in on a 2 1/2 year deal in order to get us into promotion contention. Last season - whether people like it or not - the table suggests we were a point and two places worse off than the season before. I would fully expect us to be challenging for a top 6 place this season and would be disappointed if we don't make the play-offs, otherwise it's hard to see the purpose of PJ's appointment and also justification for a new contract. If we wanted mid-table year on year we should have saved a few quid and stuck with Jim or Roy! In fact, Jim has performed better than both Roy and PJ in terms of league position to date!

Can anyone explain what a hip impingement is please?
