Sir Alf Stand Gets a Spruce Up
Sir Alf Stand Gets a Spruce Up
Monday, 18th Jun 2012 21:58

Work started on cleaning and painting the superstructure of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand at Portman Road earlier today.

It’s the first maintenance of this type since the new upper tier was built on to the old Churchman’s Stand during 2000 and 2001 and is costing the club around £80,000.

Just goes to show the stand will be un-recognisable once it is cleaned up.

It's the Cobbold that needs work doing. I'd personally knock it down and replace it with one of those flat-packs that Blackpool put up when they got to the Prem, or quicker still, one a bit like Colchester's....

AND BY THEY WAY... how is this procedure costing £80,000? I'd have done it for under a grand if they'd asked me!

That's the Greene King stand which is being worked on. The Sir Alf Ramsey stand looks nothing like that.

Northstander you muppet. There isn't a Greene king stand anymore - it got renamed as Sir Alf Ramsey stand last year. Are you getting your Sirs mixed up?

Marcus added 07:24 - Jun 19
Perhaps he means the bits that haven't been cleaned are the Greene King stand and those that have are the Sir Alf stand.

I have to say this is the news we've all been waiting for. The optimism will permeate throughout the club. I've heard of slow news days but it appears it's been a pretty slow news week. Maybe the next few new signings are waiting until they are out of the euros to enter discussions?

Clegg - you need to get some Waxoil on those rusty bits while you're up there.

These comments are shocking. How many of you have even seen Portman Road before? The photo is obviously from portman road, looking at the corner of the Cobbold and The Sir Alf. The guy is working on the Sir Alf stand.

It's really not a difficult picture to work out.

These comments are really worrying!

Come on people - clean stands and turnstiles will impress prospective signings.
All part of the Clegg masterplan! :-))

So a clean stand or Jimmy Bullard for a month.
Which one is better value?

Wickets - The Sir Bobby stand is like that due to our last goundsman, who realised it was hard to get air on to the grass as inside the stadium it stayed stagnant and was not good for the pitch to grow, therefore he asked for part of the stand to be taken out so that the air would flow onto the pitch from outside the stadium, which is better for the turf, therefore they replaced part of the Sir Bobby stand with the tarpaulins at his request to improve the pitch and keep it at a high standard.
