Chambers Deal Close - Report
Chambers Deal Close - Report

Former Nottingham Forest central defender Luke Chambers will undergo a medical and sign for the Blues on Tuesday, according to a report from Midlands sources this evening. The 26-year-old, whose Forest contract was up at midnight on Saturday, has been tipped for a Bosman free move to Town since last Wednesday.

The Blues, as is their usual policy, remain tight-lipped regarding progress on the proposed deal, but we understand landing the former Northampton skipper is one of Paul Jewell’s main priorities this summer.

Kettering-born Chambers started his career with the Cobblers, breaking into their first team on the final day of the 2002/03 season as a 17-year-old before establishing himself in the side and helping them to promotion from League Two.

In January 2007 Chambers joined Forest for an undisclosed fee and since then he has gone on to make 208 starts and 20 substitute appearances, scoring 21 goals, and was their captain during 2011/12.

Chambers, Forest’s 2010/11 Player of the Year, has previously been linked with Leicester, Wigan and West Brom, while Leeds were mentioned in connection with the 6ft 1in tall defender over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been looking for Ipswich-based goalkeepers for use in target practice at Playford Road on Tuesday morning via Twitter.

“Back home, gonna hit the training ground tomorrow and get the balls out and get the feet going,” he tweeted. “Who from Ipswich is a goalkeeper? I could need some assistance tomorrow morning.”

Having received replies, he added: “It’s hard to choose, lol. I don’t know who’s any good *ScratchesHead*.”

Delighted with this if it happens although we've had a lot of false dawns in our time! Great news and just what we need! Statement of intent!

I really hope it happens
He seems like a proper replacement for Gareth McAuley
I hope we offer him enough money

ALB will be busy! Shame we don't have another couple of keepers to compete for a place, start pre-season training when everyone else does, etc, etc. We get this every year with signings. If Chambers signs today - at least that will buck the trend.

Would be a very useful signing...IF it happens*

*can't help but be a little sceptical about any future signings until they've signed and had the obligatory photo taken holding up the shirt!

I am a relation of a Forest season ticket holder (who lives in Huddersfield - yes, Galpharm here we come). He says he started off very well, but lost form last season, seems that Wes Morgan if not carried him, saw him through. However, not without ability - and smack bang in the middle of our price range... A new challenge might just get the best from him?

Looks class, and chips in with a few goals. Could be the commanding centre half we've missed since MaCauley left. Get it sorted Clegg!

Chambers would be awesome alongside someone like Richard Keogh. Solid no nonsense defenders. I would rather Smith and Delaney as back up coming in for a few games a season. Delaney certainly couldn't be relied upon more regularly than that, he looked lost without McAuley. Everything I've read about Mat Ryan suggets he's going to be the next Schwarzer for Australia, so I would definitely snap him up in goal. Play Luke Hyam in front of Chambers and Keogh and we would surely have a top 6 rather than bottom 6 (or 2!!!) defence.

I would like Fuller to come in as our battering ram, then somebody like Steve Davies who can play left wing in a 4-2-3-1 or up front in the same formation or even a 4-4-2. Clough wanted to keep Davies and reckoned he would score 20 a season if he stayed injury free.

Seriously has no one picked up on "“Back home, gonna hit the training ground tomorrow and get the balls out"

where's the sense of humour gone ;-)

That video clip of Luke Chambers shows qhat he has in the locker. I have spoken to a few forrest fans and they rate him highly and some have said he did lose a bit of form last season in what was a tough season for them, but mainly that they don't want him to go, sounds a bit like the Walters situation we had here a while ago.

But seriously JET to "Get the balls out" doesn't get a reaction or a post, come on, that is twitter gold.

If this gets wrapped up today would be a great deal! Also Cranie from Coventry is now a free agent, would be good back up for Chambers and Smith?

Paulnstar i am sceptical about the Forest fans views.... he was their player of the year 2010/2011 and their runner up last year. maybe a bit of sour grapes?
