Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign
Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign
Tuesday, 3rd Jul 2012 10:50

TWTD understands that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers is, as per reports last night, at Portman Road today to undergo a medical. The 26-year-old is a free agent with his Forest contract up at midnight on Saturday.

The deal to bring the one-time Northampton man to Town appears likely to be concluded in the next couple of days in time for the 6ft 1in tall defender to join Paul Jewell’s squad for the first day of pre-season training on Thursday.

The Blues may already have made French-Guinean Cheick Kourouma their second signing of the summer before Chambers puts pen to paper.

The 6ft tall central midfielder, who we understand to be back in Suffolk after the summer break, agreed terms with the Blues last month but without formally signing on the dotted line.

TWTD was first to break the news of Town’s interest in the youngster, who spent time on trial at Playford Road at the end of last season on the recommendation of released defender Ibrahima Sonko.

Kourouma, 19, was with Genoa CFC Primavera, Genoa’s U20 team, during the first half of last season having previously been in Spain with Real Zaragoza’s youth set-up and before that with French club Sochaux.

Although Paris-born Kourouma is a free agent, Town have had to agree development compensation terms with all three of his previous clubs as he is below 23 years of age.

Kourouma seems likely to have agreed a one-year deal, while Chambers is rumoured to be signing for three seasons.

Still need another Central Defender as 3 is not enough, hope we get someone better than the 3 we have now, still need a class keeper and we could have one of the tightest defence in the Championship.

A Striker and Murphy or another left winger and top 6 could be a possability

Hewitt, Chambers and Korouma! & murphs too very soon i'm sure.
Shows ambition and long term planning, fantastic signs from the club.
Also key areas where we needed numbers.

The Newcastle lad, Adiebe (i think) could be on his way. Another young midfielder with two senior appearances.

As the lads have said a GK next please. If we get the GK (or 2) we need I think we will be in great shape for preseason and firing on all cylinders come Blackburn in August.

We should keep sonks at the club in some role. He might be able to find us another few players with his connections. Could also help our defenders & play a game ot two if needed.

I would want Loach, Keogh, Murphy & Baldock!!

Job done,

Murphy to go up front if we need height for a different approach!

With Sonks, at least he is training with the club and keeping relatively fit.
A great back up defender and would give valuable cover with Delaney (@LB/CB) until Hewitt returns to fitness. With Smith playing lots of games we really do need that bit of extra cover as injuries are never far behind a tired player. Win-Win.

Great news and hopefully 2 cracking signings-welcome to the club boys.

Money is on Loach to be a Town player by the end of next week if a reasonable fee can be agreed!

Saffronblue, actually spotted Murphy yesterday in his Range Rover up near Sainsburys at Warren Heath, clearly still in the area-would say that signing is a matter of when it will happen. Now the team is back in action this week, I imagine everything will kick into gear over the next few weeks.

Come on Phil, get that pictue of these lads holding the shirt up!!!

Just seen Town linked with Williams from Colchester United. That's another one to be chewed over.

It's looking good for getting Chambers then. Signing Forest's captain on a free transer would be a fantastic bit of business, especially as he is only 26. Due to his age I think he could be a better signing than McAuley, and remember that Magilton shelled out £1.1M to bring Gareth here whereas Jewell has found a free transfer. The manager has to get a lot of credit if this comes off.

Great signing.

Good job we didn't get Jacobs now - our new signing would have been.......
"a load of old Cobblers!"

I'll get my coat.....

Is it just my phone or does Chambers' face look green in that pic? Does if rip his shirt if someone makes him angry?

Phil, can you clarify if Sonko is Karouma's agent? Or if he'll receive any kind of 'deliverance fee' for the signing? Also, ask your inside sources if the club are likely to offer Sonks a contract?

Fingers crossed this gets completed would be a solid signing and big step in sorting our back 4, with the likes of cresswell hewitt chambers and smith that has youth on its side for sure. Loach behind them would be the icing on the cake for me,

Our midfield is also looking strong, a big season for hyam and drury plus the support of martin, JET, carson, Stevenson, Cheick Kourouma, Bullard and young Lawernce this seems a great mixture of players

As for the attack we have a fitter chopra along with scotland and the potential signings of Davies and also Boyd from peterborough if these reports are to be believed thats a perfect front four. I would like to see you Murray given his chance a lot of potential there and plenty of reasons to fight for the shirt.

Chambers seems like a quality signing to me, experienced Championship defender at a decent age, get him on a 3 year deal.

I wouldn't listen to the Forrest fans, remember us with Walters? One great season, didn't quite live up to it next and had fans making sound like Stoke were getting an awful player...

Koumoura, complete unknown, sounds like Hewitt is the real deal though!

Another defender in, possibly a bit of quality in midfield and up top and we could have a chance.

Weird seeing people being so positive, not complaining at all! This would be two good signings for town if both were to go through however there is still a lot of work to be done yet!

Could someone kindly post the current Ipswich squad underneath this post? With potential signings included if possible, would help me greatly with understanding our situation.

The only downfall is that Kourouma isn't on fifa!!

Very encouraging news and will celebrate when the ink is dry on both deals. Would like Davies to sign now as Chops badly needs a strike partner of that ilk.
I suspect Palace who seem to be linked to everyone at the moment may have a say although McCormack was linked with them this morning. Goalkeeper the top priority now - I'm still going for Guzan and definitely not Loach, as I've stated on here previously Watford do not rate him and they know better than us.
