Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign
Chambers at Club as Kourouma Set to Sign

TWTD understands that former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers is, as per reports last night, at Portman Road today to undergo a medical. The 26-year-old is a free agent with his Forest contract up at midnight on Saturday.

The deal to bring the one-time Northampton man to Town appears likely to be concluded in the next couple of days in time for the 6ft 1in tall defender to join Paul Jewell’s squad for the first day of pre-season training on Thursday.

The Blues may already have made French-Guinean Cheick Kourouma their second signing of the summer before Chambers puts pen to paper.

The 6ft tall central midfielder, who we understand to be back in Suffolk after the summer break, agreed terms with the Blues last month but without formally signing on the dotted line.

TWTD was first to break the news of Town’s interest in the youngster, who spent time on trial at Playford Road at the end of last season on the recommendation of released defender Ibrahima Sonko.

Kourouma, 19, was with Genoa CFC Primavera, Genoa’s U20 team, during the first half of last season having previously been in Spain with Real Zaragoza’s youth set-up and before that with French club Sochaux.

Although Paris-born Kourouma is a free agent, Town have had to agree development compensation terms with all three of his previous clubs as he is below 23 years of age.

Kourouma seems likely to have agreed a one-year deal, while Chambers is rumoured to be signing for three seasons.

@Paulsimmons - your comments make no sense! you were just calling for us to spend some real money on players now ranting on about youth players that have moved on?? milwall took fewer points than us last season so i hardly think being a stand out player in their team means he would have done well in ours, our midfield i think is actually relitively strong, i cant see how u can be so negative about these things?

You are way of the mark, it was Keane who did not rate Trotter not the Supporters the same with Rhodes.
As for other clubs cast offs Chambers let his contract run out as a lot of players do, i am sure Forest would like to keep him.

i dont think its that jewell is signing players for less to keep his job, ultimitely his role is to get players who will gain us promotion however there less money available to him this year and also players are not going to take the pay cuts necessary for us to be able to have any chance of signing them, which is unfortunate as it seems that the gap between the chmpionship and premier league is only increasing but thats a different discussion altogether

Great. The team's starting to take shape. Next a decent keeper, although ALB has shown he can put in a decent shift a club can't survive with a single senior keeper. I guess we're also looking for a left midfielder and a striker. No shocks if the players come out of order.
