Former Blue Sergei Baltacha has rejoined the academy staff at Charlton Athletic with clubs across the country adding coaches to their youth set-ups as they seek to meet the requirements of the Premier League’s Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP).

Town, who like the Addicks are aiming for Category Two standard, are looking to increase their staff by seven this summer with new academy director Bryan Klug holding interviews within a day or so of returning to the club.

Charlton academy director Paul Hart said: "It's been a very busy summer, and with the new season on the horizon, we're nearing the end of the process of making appointments for all of the new roles.

"We've interviewed dozens of candidates and are very happy with those who have accepted roles. We're now looking forward to getting everyone in the building and properly starting work ahead of pre-season.

"We've known Sergei a long time, and he's obviously a hugely experienced footballer and an exceptional and innovative coach.

"It's a more senior role than he had within the academy before, and we're delighted that he's decided to return to us."

Ah - remember his debut - and his goal on that day - I went totally nuts when he scored. Kind of remember a documentary made about him when he moved over here.

His debut: 0-0 at half-time against Stoke. He came on for the second half and scored with his first touch. Town won 5-1 with the emerging Dozzell-Kiwomya partnership. After that game he was rubbish. Didn't help that Duncan played him out of position in midfield or as a centre-back when he was a sweeper and I remember Wolves running rings round him.
