Jewell: Keeper Signing Close
Jewell: Keeper Signing Close
Wednesday, 18th Jul 2012 00:28

Town boss Paul Jewell says the Blues are close to completing the signing of a keeper, but stopped short of naming him as Watford’s Scott Loach. Town are understood to have agreed a fee with the Hornets for the 24-year-old former England U21 international.

Jewell said: “The one we’re going for, we’re quite a long way down the line with that one. I don’t really comment on speculation but we’re hoping to tie the goalkeeping one up pretty soon.

“We’ve been chasing a goalkeeper for a while and we’re hoping it’s going to happen in the next few days.”

The Blues manager isn’t counting his chickens but is hopeful the deal will be done, although probably not in time for the keeper to join up with the squad before they return from Holland on Friday: “I don’t want to sound too confident as we’ve been down this route before, but we’re hopeful of getting the one that we want.”

Slovakian international keeper Marian Kello is currently on trial with the Blues and played the second half of the 1-1 draw with Helmond Sport.

Jewell was pleased with the 29-year-old’s performance, although he was largely untroubled: “The goalkeeper Kello didn’t have a lot to do in the second half but looked competent.

“We know him because he was at Hearts and he went to Aston Villa to train at the end of last season when he came out of contract at Hearts.

“He’s got a couple offers off a couple of clubs in Turkey, but he’s an experienced keeper and one we’re looking at.”

Meanwhile, Richard Wright is understood to be weighing up whether to hang up his gloves and take up a role coaching with the academy.

The 34-year-old recently left Preston after only a few days having been released by the Blues at the end of last season.

I would be very happy with Loach and Kello.
Wright being a coach in the academy could be interesting.

Possibly two new keepers in one day! There starting to get like London buses, you wait around ages for one, then two turn up at once! (PS would live to see R.Wright working in our academy, surely this makes perfect sense)

Kello and Loach pull off some great saves, not to sure about decision making/holding onto crosses/ distribution though. Either way, we will see I guess

I remember JAS moaning 1 or 2 days ago about us never signing a goalie, what do you say to this jas ?

My gut feeling says it will be Kello as No 1 with Loach on the bench and ALB as reserve keeper. Didn't all of last year's keepers say that Wrighty was virtually training them anyway?
Kello sounds commanding with Loach and ALB both enthusiastic. ALB is a good keeper as long as he doesn't play 3 games in a row.

Loach will not be signing to sit on the bench. Loach for No 1, Kello in reserve and offload ALB. Not enough reserve games to carry to reserve keepers.

Thank the lord
Can't have ALB costing us next season again

Sort of a shame really as my mate who is a Jambo reckons Kello's a cracking keeper. Another one who couldn't get on with the owners at Hearts

As stated below early July when Chambers signed

"Really good signing ,welcome aboard Luke .
Loach ,Bramble Davies ,Murphy to follow with Wickham on season loan .
Clegg ,Evans and Jewell cant sign or attract anyone !! Dont make me laugh"

Patience is a virtue

I would love to see them both sign... Kello is a great keeper, seen him quite a few times on the telly...

and pay attention on the bunch of positive comments about him...

I don't profess to know much about the Scottish league but according to reports Kello has performed admirably for the Jam Tarts. I am not convinced by Loach. I remember speaking to a Watford fan about him when he first 'burst' onto the scene. He didn't rate him at all. The fact Watford are willing to offload him says it all really. I'm not very optimistic about our additions thus far to be honest. The Macc Lad may do ok (ala Cresswell) but Chambers was a liability at Forest and their fans appear relieved to have got rid of him. Lets face it, they made no effort to keep him and are moving on to bigger and better things. Mid table mediocrity again for Town i'm afraid.

I live in Nottingham and forest fans were not relieved to get rid of Chambers. All of them have said he is a good signing and a reliable defender who had one average season (along with most of their team) and they would have liked him to stay. A mid 20's proven central defender and some people still moan.

Def prefer Kello. Not convinced about Loach, and being an Ipswich fan doesn't make him a better keeper than what he is.

What happened to Heaton from Cardiff was he not expected to join town in Holland
