French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma has been named in the squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Luton Town (KO 3pm). The former Sochaux, Real Zaragoza and Genoa man, who celebrates his 20th birthday today, has agreed a contract with the Blues but has so far been unable to put pen to paper due to red tape relating to his former clubs.

Kourouma impressed in what was effectively a reserves friendly at Braintree on Tuesday, leading to his elevation to the senior squad.

Jimmy Bullard, Nathan Ellington and Josh Carson also played in that game and weren’t in the squad which travelled to Cambridge but are included in the party which travels to Kenilworth Road.

Skipper Carlos Edwards and midfielder Andy Drury both face one of their previous clubs.

Notable absentees are Lee Martin, due to the minor thigh injury which kept him out of the games prior to Cambridge, and Ronan Murray, who picked up a slight knock in training earlier in the week.

But to more important matters the comments I have seen so far about Cheick is amazing I am looking forward very much for him to be apart of our squad which looks like is shaping up to be a worthy contender for at least the play offs maybe auto promotion or dare I say it champions??? It's just this red tape that is causing problems but hopefully that shall be done with soon as we don't want that when we maybe want to sell him on to another club but all in all it looks like its going to be a very tense and exciting year! slaughteredskipper added 15:05 - Jul 27 My brothers dad is friends with one of the physios at Ipswich and went for a pint with him last night and according to him after extensive tests which lasted a number of hours the medical team have concluded that Lee Martin has in fact got a thigh injury.
