Coppinger Linked Again
Coppinger Linked Again
Thursday, 2nd Aug 2012 12:56

Town are reported to be considering renewing their interest in Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger. Having made an approach for the 31-year-old last summer, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he could make an enquiry regarding the former Exeter man at the end of the season but subsequently decided against reviving his interest.

Rovers turned down an offer of £300,000 for the right-sided midfielder last summer when the Blues also made an approach for striker Billy Sharp, who joined Southampton in January.

Prior to Town’s final game of the season at the Keepmoat Stadium, Jewell said he planned to talk to Doncaster boss Dean Saunders regarding Coppinger - "I’ll speak with Deano on Saturday to see what the situation with the lad is” — but afterwards ruled out making a move: “I don’t think so. We’d like good players, he’s a good player, Coppinger, but I don’t think so.”

Yesterday, rumours on Twitter claimed the Blues and Burnley had had offers turned down for Coppinger, while Nottingham Forest, managed by former Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll, have also been linked recently.

Boyd? He's still there, transfer listed to I think. Would be the obvious player we were looking at

Lightingboy .. Boyd would be an excellent signing for us ,very creative ,scores and will stay out wide with a bit of height also .Think we need the lift of a new signing as pre season seems to have gone very flat over last 2 weeks which is not a good sign

There's no way we could afford Boyd based on Jewells recent expenditure this summer, especially as we can't negotiate with Derby and won't pay £1 million.

Just heard town put in a bid for Posh striker Paul Taylor....

Varney would have been good, surprised we didn't go in for him at all. The interest in Paul Gallagher seems to have completely cooled, is there no interest in him anymore?

brotherblue - i dont think it was us as he is smaller than chops, and we are need of height.

Could be a very good signing and at a very reasonable price.
Very well respected at Rovers and gives a bit of well needed experience.
However as people have already posted we would then need to sign someone he could cross the ball to?
Coppinger plus a physical centre forward and the team could start to look a little more threatening!!COYB.

Agree with other callers we need some height and physical presence in the team, we are far to lightweight in all areas of the team. For me a big centre forward and another big centre back are top priority.

Pretty decent player, not going to be a massive fee and probably not big wages so this would be quite a decent signing.

Let's just sign this godforsaken pr*ck if we must and get it over with! Let him rot in the reserves. Then we won't ever have to hear about him being linked to us again. I'd be willing to let Town pay £300k just for the cessation of this story.

Would rather have Liam Lawrence instead.

Think this is a pointless move. Not sure what he brings to the party. We need more physicality in the midfield which Coppinger clearly lacks. It would make more sense to chase Murphy (won't happen either).

Dont be suprised if we dont sign anyone else, based on what we have seen .How do we compete with Wolves,Blackburn and even Bristol City when we wont spend .At least the Cobbolds ran the club better than this

Slightly random but I would like to see Liam Lawrence join us.

That is all.
