Blues boss Paul Jewell has refused to comment on reports that Town are targeting exiting Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu. The 26-year-old is on his way out of Ibrox following their recent demotions to Scottish League Division Three.

The Blues are understood to have spoken to the US international, who is all but certain to move on before the transfer window closes.

Jewell said: “We are interested in a midfield player but I don’t want to comment on speculation because he’s a Rangers player.”

Yesterday, Rangers manager Ally McCoist said he was resigned to US international Edu and Alejandro Bedoya departing: “It looks like Maurice and Alejandro will be leaving."

Californian Edu played with the Maryland Terrapins and Toronto FC before moving to the Glasgow giants in 2008 for a fee of £2.6 million. Since then the 6ft tall midfielder has made 102 starts and 21 sub appearances for Rangers.

Meanwhile, confirmation regarding midfielder Jimmy Bullard's expected Town exit is now unlikely until early next week.

If there's genuine interest then I think he would be interested in playing for us. Many players as well who go to teams like Rangers are clearly quite open minded because its not as competetive as playing in some of Europes top leagues. I think the Championship is starting to become a more popular division because bigger clubs are in our league and it seems players are very attracted to come to England, and especially him being in the Scottish league he will have heard alot about it. Nuno Gomes and The new Wolves lad Doumbia as wel as Danny Murphy for example are high profile players though wages perhaps turned their heads. So if the lad is modest enough and understands that were a decent side playing in a high standard division then why shouldn't he want to join.

My mind is completely caught between a rock and a hard place....I see what we are doing, getting rid of players that are not commited or good enough and saving money in prepartion for the new financial rules that come into pace....but question is does that put us behind the 8-ball this year on performance potential, but in great position next season when other teams have to "cull" the team to meet the requirements of the new rules....

Without a good centre mid- which in my opinion means new players, I cannot see the defence looking better than last year and our results being little better- or worse.
Edu seems to be the right type of player and with Bullard leaving we must have a bit to spend- but cannot see Ipswich being top of his list of clubs that he could join.

This would be the signing of our season by far. Great player and is not too young or too old! Get him Jewell...please?

Good player but would Rangers want much of a fee?
That's the only stumbling block.

It sounds a bit unrealistic doesn't it? Will be wonderful if he does agree to a move - call me a pessimist, I don't think it will happen.
