N'Daw Loan Signing Confirmed Friday, 24th Aug 2012 14:13
Town have confirmed the season-long loan signing of St Etienne midfielder Guirane N’Daw, subject to international clearance. As reported last night, the 28-year-old passed a medical and agreed personal terms yesterday, the clubs having negotiated the terms of the loan earlier in the week.
Boss Paul Jewell said: “I’m delighted to add Guirane to the squad and he’s coming here for a year. We’ve been trying to get him for a while, so I’m pleased to finally bring him in.
“I’ve said many times that we look a little vulnerable at set pieces and he will bring some physical presence and stature to the squad, something you need for the rigours of a Championship season.
“He’s a good addition to the squad, but first he will need to earn the right to get into the side.
“But Guirane has a good pedigree in the game and has played for Real Zaragoza, Sochaux and obviously St Etienne.
“He also played for Birmingham last season and I know Chris Hughton speaks highly of him, so we’re very pleased to add him to the ranks.”
The Senegalese international will briefly return to France before joining up with the squad next week, probably not in time to be involved against Carlisle in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
The 6ft 3in tall Rufisque-born midfielder or centre-half, who St Etienne have confirmed is contracted until June 2013, not 2014 as reported in some sources, began his career with Sochaux , with whom he won the 2007 Coupe de France.
He moved on to Nantes in 2008 before joining St Etienne initially on loan in 2009, a deal which became permanent the following summer for €4 million.
Capped 44 times by his country, scoring four goals, N'Daw spent the second half of 2010/11 on loan at Real Zaragoza in Spain before joining Birmingham on for the first half of the following campaign, the deal eventually being extended until the end of the season.
While with Birmingham he was absent with Senegal at the African Nations Cup for a time and was then sidelined with a hamstring problem, but still managed 25 starts and four sub appearances without scoring. He missed both games against Town.

Not a starter at the moment with the way lungo and Hyam are playing but he will give us a different option to bring off then bench if plan A isn't woking
If he's contracted until next June (2013) with St. Etienne, I presume that means we can look to secure him as a free agent if he plays well enough to earn a contract?
Town's lack of height was noticeable at Watford, especially when Taylor and Nosworthy came up to join Iwelumo for Watford's free kick near the end.
I expect N'Daw to be utilised when we come up against the more physical teams in the division.
Welcome aboard!
PS What are personal terms for a loan player? I thought they just continued being paid by their parent club with a loan fee being paid between the clubs. Does he get paid win bonuses and that sort of thing from Ipswich?
Some muscle and height to compliment our passing game, perfect. I will be less nervous about us defending set pieces with him in the team. Brum fans have already said they really miss him in this respect. The fact he can play centre back is a huge bonus too. I know PJ has said he's brought him in as a midfielder but I can see him playing centre back at some point.
Now lets make our final loan signing of the summer and get Wickham in to add some height, muscle and more goals up front. Then Adam Hammill from Wolves to add some pace to the wings.
Good news. a solid midfielder. need another good signing. Striker up with Chops would be good. put the pressure on Scotland. Come on Town lets push this season for playoffs. We've been out of the running in recent times.
really pleased with this signing, there will undoubtedly be the ''oh not another loan player'' moaners, but this is a season long loan and the pool of available players that tick all the boxes isnt that great .This is as good as it gets .Welcome to Town Guirane.COYB
Looks a good signing - now get Connor back and wide man to give JET and Carson some competition and we're cooking.....however rumours from Villa Park are worrying me!
Jewell has expressly said that he has been brought in as a midfield player, not a centre-back. I guess we all agree that Luongo and Hyam deserve an extended run in central midfield. Therefore, in the short-term, he will not provide extra height and strength to our starting line-up.
Judging by Jewell's recent remarks about Hyam amd Luongo, I would imagine he's been brought in as a squad player and not a first team regular. Obviously that will probably change due to injuries and/or loss of form. Things are looking up when an experienced international is just a squad player!
this works on so many levels. not only can he cover cb, adds depth for holding mid strength and height in the box (sorely needed) also another formation option (2 d.mids for the brutal away gmes) but he also can help players like hyam and smith with international expreiance in the training ground. i do feel that most of the defensive problems last season were casued by playing 2 left sided defenders and a rightwinger turned right back against a prodominatly right sided strike force. we seemed to get chewed up down the right time and time again. this sems to be addressed, although would mind one more center back just to be sure...
