Redknapp Rumours Reach Tabloids as Leeds and Wolves Linked With Hyam Sunday, 2nd Sep 2012 10:49 Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is claimed to be Paul Jewell’s successor if all fails to go to plan at Town this season by one of this morning’s tabloids. Meanwhile, Wolves and Leeds are linked with Luke Hyam.
Redknapp is known to be friends with Blues owner Marcus Evans and rumours that he might be a potential future Town boss have been circulating locally since the two of them were shown playing golf together at the Sir Bobby Robson Classic in Portugal over the summer.
The ex-Spurs manager is understood to have been involved in the process of putting together the short-list of candidates for the Town job when Roy Keane was sacked, while Charlie Woods, who worked with Redknapp at White Hart Lane as well as with Robson at a number of clubs, is also amongst Evans’s confidantes.
Evans, however, is also understood to have a good relationship with current boss Jewell, whose terms are up at the end of the season, and has had a history of giving his managers time. Having given the Liverpudlian not insignificant money to spend in the last week for Peterborough striker Paul Taylor, unless the season goes very badly wrong, a change seems unlikely in the short-term.
Other newspapers link Redknapp with potential returns to Southampton and West Ham and also the QPR job this morning should their current incumbents fail to cut the mustard in the Premier League and it would seem far more likely that the 65-year-old would be after another position in the top flight.
Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be struggling to keep hold of midfielder Luke Hyam, who is said to be on £650-a-week, the lowest wage in the Blues first team squad. Speaking last week, Jewell said he will be offering the 20-year-old, whose current deal is up at the end of the season, a new contract, but Wolves and Leeds are said to be interested.
Hyam was given his current terms last season with manager Jewell keen to keep young players hungry and not give them too much too soon, but reward them with longer and more lucrative contracts as they progress.

Luke, my mum wants someone to paint her house - I reckon you could get 700 quid or more out of her for a good job well done. I know it's a bit hard to accept when you discover that she spent 8 grand on bloody carpet (the Bullard of her retirement bungalow???), but it's still money.

Would not surprise me if we lost Luke, the offering of only a cheap short term contract to him, ranks as second to Roy Keanes misselling of Rhodes as biggest recent C--k ups.

brockley blueboy. at last ive read a sensible post on this story. some1 who actually is aware of why he on those wages(& remember the story says that hes said to be on that wage, not that he is def on that wage). to those of you asking why he was dropped on sat? he wasnt. he missed the previous game with a hamstring problem, as did carson. my guess is if the squad had been larger, neither of them would have even made the bench. were purely there just in case. but lets face it, most of you posting on here arent interested in facts, just in any excuse for slagging off, p.j or s.c. god knows what youd have been saying on here if you around in the john duncan era.

alliedaz. what a ridiculous comment. so you think then that we offering players £650 a week to sign for us then? oh dear!!!! luke is on low wages for reasons pj made quite clear last season when this contract was offered. and luke accepted that contract so he clearly happy with that. my guess is he will be offered a much improved contract in the not too distant future, now that hes starting to establish himself in the 1st team squad. but at least think before you make such daft comments.

Hyam, like Martin can play this season out, get picked up on a free next season and collect a six figure signing on fee. It's altready too late to keep both.

In a perfect world footballers would all get paid such a paultry sum and play for the love of the game. However, in this world they get paid way too much. But, with that being the case, I would say that Luke Hyam "deserves" at least £4,000 a week. What's Cresswell on? Give him that much.

Redknapp has financially trashed every club he's been at in the current way the club is moving he far from fits the bill. What we need is a younger hungry determined ambitious manager and players to match!

I hate Sundays with stupid paper talk, wouldn't want a manager here who would sink the club into even more debt!!

Sitting on the bench and getting paid less than Nathan Ellington is a man management technique known as " keeping him hungry". How does this work then?

I would also love to see Harry in charge down here, but I don't think he would have enough financial support to do much with the club, I'm sure Clegg/Evans penny pinching would drive him nuts

The best thing would be bring in a proper manager who can motivate and coach players I know who I would rather have . And ofcourse we would have Kevin Bond as 1st team coach excellent

Firstly there is absolutely no way on earth that Redknap will ever come to Ipswich as he is a money man. As previous posts he is set to be named as Southampton manager within a month that will be nice and near to home. Secondly we need to get Hyam on a decent contract as the lad has been outstanding. Unfortunately I don';t think that PJ is a big fan and drops him when he gets the chance. Yes I know he was injured for the Carlisle game. Too good to lose and still to reach his full potential. He is the clubs future

I heared from ex Sunday newspaper Telephone technition !! that Harry turned down the England job to wait to be PJ's replacement if/when he gets the sack from Town. Public warning laughing can cause heart attacks!!

i am a jewell fan but if hyam was to go that would be the last straw he will be a very good young player for uswhy is he still not tied down gave jewell benefit of doubt overcarson treatment thought we should have kept eastman come on should be on a long contract do not want our best young players leaving. luke hyam has been one of our pluses in a depressing year still think p jewell is right man for job and slowly he is building a team HURRY UP ST LEDGER

Hey Phil. How about a vote on whether Hyam should be offered an improved deal. I would vote for him!!

Three seasons on from Keane and what exactly has Jewell achieved? Mediocrity and constantly looking over our shoulder at possibly League 1.Old school management and tactics and is reluctant to give our bright young players a chance ? Why would Hyam stay if other clubs give him more security and support? Harry would be great but is unlikely to happen. Would love a young manager like Karl Robinson. The game has moved on Jewell so move over.

Would be good if HR went to Southampton, then we can dispense with our current no hopers & get in Nigel Adkins. Sorted.

When is Clegg contracted till? Does a CEO get contracted in the same way as players and managers do? or is it like most jobs were you stay intill you want to leave or get sacked?

Sorry people but Hyam is not the answer to climb up the league. Yes there is potential there but I actually think he would benefit from a season in League 1. Yes they need to play Loungo but need someone with experience at his side - N'Daw would be idea. Hyam is raw and if given a run would be suspended on a regular basis as he is rather reckless. Time will tell but as far as I am concerned he is only worth £650 a week at the moment - although I dont believe that figure.
