Jewell: We Can Turn Things Around
Thursday, 20th Sep 2012 01:54

Blues boss Paul Jewell has insisted that his Town side are capable of turning their season around despite a disappointing start which sees them sitting in 23rd in the Championship after six games. The Blues have failed to score in their last two matches — both 2-0 defeats — despite creating plenty of opportunities in front of goal.

Jewell said: “I think we can turn it around. We’ve just got to take the chances. You guys [the media] have sat up here with numerous managers and they’ll have said the same thing - ‘goals change games’ - and if we get the first goal then you’ll see a different side to us.

“It’s not as if we’re not creating chances, we’re creating really good opportunities but we’ve got to be more ruthless in each box.”

The Blues boss is likely to be without recent signing Paul Taylor when Charlton visit Portman Road on Saturday, the former Peterborough man having left Portman Road on crutches after last night’s match due to an ankle injury sustained in the second half, while fellow frontman Michael Chopra could also be a doubt.

The 28-year-old tweeted: “Let's hope my thigh is better for the weekend, lots of rest and ice. Gutted about tonight, we need to start taking our chances.”

Wolves boss StÃ¥le Solbakken was pleased to notch his first away win as the manager of the Midlanders but admitted it was a close game: “It was hard work. It could have gone either way.

"I think in the first half both teams were very well organised and there were few chances and it was difficult for either team to open the other one up.

“In the second half there were a lot of chances for both teams. I think we struggled with the long ball into our penalty area, we defended too deep and even if we won the first ball, the second one could always cause us problems.

“But we also had some great chances; Kevin Doyle hit the inside of the post and Bjorn Sigurdarson should have scored at 0-0, so it could have gone either way.”

The Norwegian had sympathy with Tommy Smith for his own goal: “He was unlucky there. I didn’t really see what happened, but we haven’t had much luck so far this season, so maybe it was our turn today.”

Solbakken says his first six games as a manager in English football have shown him just how close the Championship is: “What I’ve seen so far is that there isn’t a great difference between the teams.

“I think that Ipswich are in a difficult situation when you look at the statistics so far, but they could have had points today and I saw their game with Middlesbrough and they were very unlucky and they drew at home with Blackburn, so I think that shows how even this league is.”

The Cobbold family Sir Alf and Sir Bobby left the club a great legacy. We a small town club competed with the best in europe we had a team of internationals, managers respected through out world football, fans happy and entertained and thanks to the current clowns in control of our club its all being thrown away. Ive witnessed low times over the 40 years ive supported town but the Evans years top the lot. I posted a comment about Sheepshanks being the start of the problems, in response to those who thought i was wrong if he done such a good job and was passioniate fan of the club why is Evans now the owner and does he still attend matches oh and did he plough his own money into the club i think not.

...... Jewell - you couldn't turn a Bus around - that's another potential career out of the window for you !

The Olympics are well and truly over - let's now see if the interest is focused on ITFC - by the said people !!!
Acid test time - make no mistake about it.

Saturday will be so intereresting for all the wrong reasons, both strikers out, which leaves us Scotland who can,t do 90 minutes, and JET who could not hit a barn door at five paces! so just where are the goals going to come from?
Thankfully its Charlton who seem to be in a simular sad state as ourselves.
Its being called a six pointer.............i prefer to call it judgement day, i hope PJ brings a large holdall as without a win it could be time to clear his desk!

For sake of all that is holy please let the players decide to give 100% for a change

Now look you lot....we are all (I hope) ITFC to the core and support the team

Yes: It's a difficult time

Yes: Jewell has his back against the wall

Yes: this situation has been going on far to long

No: we should not be abusing one another or calling each other names!!!

We are all entitled to our varied opinions that's what this forum is for, not for having a pop at your fellow supporters!

If you want to call anyone names go find a Budgie, this 'in fighting' is pathetic and guys you should be ashamed of yourselves. Dust yourselves down, get to Portman Road on Saturday and get behind the team. They fecking need it!

i presume he's got the stats to back that up .... anyone got the raw data to see if under PJ we win more games when we score first ? .... it hasn't felt that way with the defensive issues.
