JET's Time Will Come
Friday, 21st Sep 2012 06:00

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Jay Emmanuel-Thomas’s time will come despite the ex-Arsenal man dropping out of the first team in the first few weeks of the season. The 21-year-old started the first five games of the campaign but has been on the bench for the last two matches.

Jewell said: “He didn’t play with confidence in the first few games so we took him out of the team, but his time will come again.

“He’s got ability, as everybody knows, he’s just got to try to be more consistent with that ability. He knows that. He’s only a young lad and he knows he’s got to add consistency to his game to become a better player.”

The Londoner’s inconsistency led Jewell to say he “goes from a world beater to a panel beater” last season. At the moment the Blues boss says he’s somewhere in the middle: “He’s in between the two at the moment.

“His time will come and I’m sure that in time, once he gets that consistency, that experience, he’ll become a better player.”

Jewell believes the former England U19 international, who may get his chance against Charlton with Paul Taylor and Michael Chopra both suffering injuries in the Wolves game, has the desire required to succeed: “The hunger question is because he has that laid back attitude of sometimes being carefree.

“We can’t all wear sackcloth and ashes, that’s my job! But he does care, he’s just a bit more laid back than one or two other people.”

I said this yesterday but i don't know if any of you will agree...surely JET has great potential to be our 'big' striker, he's got a big physique similar to Darren Bent and one hell of a shot on him (and he never tracks back on the wing) plus he surely has a lot more pace to frighten defenders than the likes of Daryl Murphy ever will.

i wonder whether he is always going to be a bit inconsistent? players form can dip from time to time, look at cressie, not really the same player as last year, reminds me of a team promoted to the premiership and plays out of their skin then only to lose a bit the following season. But with JET he has form dips in every game, so up and mainly down. Thats why i believe Wenger let him go.

There are lots of (if only) questions at portman at the moment , JET and his up and down form can be added to that list of questions.....soon i feel something is going to giive at portman road.... coyb

On paper we have a great team but so many are under performing .
Wenger is a very good manager and bring in player that you have never heard and they become a house old name.
If Jet was that good he would have kept him but if a team come in with silly money like we did then he must have been rubbing his hands together.
Why did Cardiff let Chopra go Birmingham never follow up on N'Daw Forest let Chambers go (top 6 now) Loach not get in the Watford side, Murphy not getting in Celtic side, funny how they can get in ours.

You've had a year with him...why can you not get the best out of him yet?

I think that the problem lies between his ears as he does not have a football brain.
Yes, he has potential but is too laid back and does not seem to have real hunger.
Watching him warm up recently, I was amazed how little he did and did not even get close to breaking into a sweat.
Would have hoped that coaching would have brought him on by now!

Very inconsistent...the minuses out do the pluses I'm afraid!

Inconsistent? Jet struggles to hit a barn door at 5 paces, how many times have we seen him in a great scoring position then for him to completely cock it up by skying it?

I firmly believe that if you gave Jet a bag of balls at 25 yards, placed a cardboard cut out of a keeper between the sticks, and said go on lad how many can you score, he would still miss 9/10. he just is not focused/interested, or just too damm lazy!

I would play JET and Carson tomorrow, leave Murphy out complete waste of space against Wolves.

^^exactly, both JET and Martin(who hasn't got a shot on him)simply can't finish...with Chopra and Murphy missing chances too you can see why we're struggling to say the least.

The worry for me with JET is that when he makes a few yards of space for himself and pulls the trigger from say 25yrds, the ball can literally go anywhere, now is that confidence or technique?? 80%+ the latter imo.

JET played well for his short time on the pitch Wednesday night, Martin lost us the game by not passing to Murphy who would have clean through on goal and then gave away free kick to gift Wolves the first goal.

I would Drop Martin Sat and also sell him in January if he refuses to sign a new contract!

JET has a lot of potential and remember he's only 21.

Sat team
Loach
Ainsley/Chambers/Smith/Cresswell
Edwards/N'Daw/Hyam/Carson
JET/Scotland

A very expensive luxury, we can't afford to carry, especially at this time. There's too many posing individuals in the side. Him and Martin are not team players. Bin them!

Good player with unbeleivable tekkers - just don't beleive the current management team are capable of getting the best out of him. Still young and will be inconsistent but can only improve.

He should start saturday as he can do the unexpected and it something we need at the mo cause we look like scoring but no end product. Yorksblue Martin Dropped?? u see the wolves game, his work rate was very good, tracked back and helped out edwards, JET wouldnt do that all the time. Martin looked dangerous on the attack as well but no goalscoring instincts!! Keep him in the team till Christmas if contract situation unresolved then sell.

Problem is that Martin will have one good game in ten, similar to the Kevin Pietersen debate.
Can we afford that? It's alright having pace, but not having an end result means nothing.

Thomas is the laziest awful player we have ever had a 1 trick pony ask Arsenal fans what they thought ask Cardiff fans what they thought, it is only the clown Jewell that thinks he has anything.
The people on here have not seen him this season your you would realise how poor he is Wed night totally ineffective

Also, look at Lennon @ Spurs. Bags of pace, destroys full backs, but runs out of ideas whenever he gets in the danger zone. Then gets made Captain. Laughable.

I know someone who was paying with JET in the youth team at Arsenal who said he was one of the best young players. He was trying to prove how difficult it is to break into the big sides as a young player, but I find it interesting that he can't find his form here.

To be fair to him, he's never really had a consistent spell in any team. He's in and out, along with his form. I disagree with people who say he can't shoot. He customarily hits the bar from 30 yards every time I see him, he's got a cracking shot. And I actually think his slow style is difficult to defend, because he has an excellent long range pass, lots of skill and a quick change of pace. The slowness is part of that, I don't think its lazy I think its just not the sort of style people expect to see. I really want him to turn good, I think he has loads of potential and he's a million miles better than Murphy.

Im sorry but he had last season and 6 games this season and has never given 90 mins unlike Hyam who gives his all we cannot carry a player like him.
If we were at the top of the league playing well then we could have him in the side but we are not we are fighting against relegation so cannot carry a player.
To be fair to him he is not the only one but they have games when they do give there all he does not.

Play him up front Jewell, and stop publicly criticising players. No need for it.
