Higginbotham Joins On Loan
Friday, 21st Sep 2012 18:05

Stoke's Danny Higginbotham has joined the Blues on a one-month loan. TWTD reported that the 33-year-old was on Town boss Paul Jewell's wish-list of potential additions a fortnight ago.

Jewell said: “We have been trying to add to our options at the back for a while and Danny has been on our radar through the summer.

“He will bring a wealth of experience to the squad and we’re obviously delighted to have him with us.”

Jewell confirmed in January that he had tried to sign the one-time Derby, Southampton and Sunderland man on loan during that transfer window prior to him joining Nottingham Forest on a similar spell.

The 6ft 1in tall former Manchester United trainee will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's game at home to Charlton.

here we go with the 'adds experience' posts...yet again not the best, give Smith a rest and slot him in there.

I am just happy to have a 3rd central defender available. Give Tommy a rest, and let's try and get a decent result tomorrow!

Great news this, fans who start questioning this kind of signing are stubborn. If he brings some solidity to our back line then he will be a real boost for us and ease the pressure on our young defence.

Welcome to town and good luck, Danny.

BUT; where does this sit with everything PJ has been spouting the last few weeks? The "we only what players who will take us to the next level" and "it will be loans with a view to a permanent" and "we want to build for the future" and "it will be players who will be here for a few years"... Which of those boxes does a 33 year old on a one-month loan deal tick?

Decent player with cracking left peg, may be able to take some decent corners+free kicks!

Can't complain. If Stoke continue to defend well and don't pick up any injuries it will probably be extended until January anyway.

He is sure to be more reliable than Smith (sorry Tommy!).

.... a month's loan ! - thrilling. Another example of PJ's 'long term planning'.

Have to agree with Garv, we tried tommy and it wasn't working, possibly having been the only choice got complacent, or the other end, had to perform and pressure got to him. Danny will bring some much needed grit to our back four, and I wouldn't count making this permanent out either

If he does his best and helps us keep clean sheets in the next 5 games then welcome aboard the sinking listless ship.

Why one month? Has PJ got someone better in mind who can come in soon and stay thru the 93 day loan period before becoming a permanent signing as he said he wanted loanees to be?

I welcome this signing, Tommy has been forced to learn in the first team (whilst clocking up some serious air miles for NZ), he needs someone with expierence to learn from and to share the workload. Welcome to ITFC Danny!

Don't know much about him, but must be better than what we have. As Jewell did say 'we only want players who are better than what we have already'. Let's wait and see, not judging him until i see him.

If you're moaning after begging for centre backs for weeks AND before he's even put on the shirt then you disappoint me.

Welcome to the club Danny and good luck
