Clegg: Harry Speculation Laughable
Tuesday, 25th Sep 2012 15:46

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has dismissed weekend speculation that Harry Redknapp was set to take over as manager of the Blues as “laughable”. Clegg says he is confident that current boss Paul Jewell can turn things around despite the disappointing start which sees Town in 23rd in the Championship.

Reports prior to kick-off on Saturday claimed that some bookmakers had suspended betting on Redknapp joining the Blues, although at least one of those cited was still offering odds of 20-1 at the time.

Clegg, speaking in a lengthy interview with Ipswich Player, says that there is nothing in claims that Redknapp — or any other boss — has been talked to about the Town job: “I can absolutely assure you that there have been no conversations with any other managers. The stuff about Harry is laughable really.

“People put two and two together and made about 27. Harry went out [to the Sir Bobby Robson Classic golf tournament in Portugal in the summer] as part of the Ipswich Town team. He’s done that in previous years. It’s not something we’ve made a big shout about, but all of a sudden people see Marcus and Harry together.

“Marcus and Harry have known each other for a number of years and it’s well known that he is one of the many people that Marcus consults with from the football family when making decisions.”

The chief executive says he is confident that Jewell can get the Blues moving in the right direction: “No doubts at all [that Paul is the man for the job].

“He’s the manager and it’s business as usual. We’re desperately trying to turn this situation around. Paul’s more conscious than most people in terms of what needs to happen.

“He’s a man who puts huge pressure on himself and I’m confident that we are going to turn this season around.”

However, he admits that if things don’t improve, a change would eventually be made: “We live in a dynamic and very fluid environment and of course there’s a tipping point.

“There’s a tipping point that comes with every manager but I’m not going to tell you when that tipping point is because it will depend on a number of factors which have to be taken into account as we go down this particular road.

“I continue to have every confidence in Paul and his ability to turn things around, and I hope that he will do.”

“No doubts at all [that Paul is the man for the job].

That's a lie - or he's incredibly stupid/naive. Can't score, can't defend and can't win at home should have alarm bells ringing.

“He's a man who puts huge pressure on himself"

By making shocking decisions, from tactics, to releasing DD, to dropping Hyam....

"I hope that he will do.”

So do all of us, but have no faith or belief that he will - look at the poll on the right!

Isn't this what he said last year after 7 losses in a row?

Oh well fingers crossed for the future... the 'arry' link was fun while it lasted :)

"[Jewell]'s a man who puts huge pressure on himself", is that what we want? Shouldn't we have a manager who's relaxed and thrives on success?

Choose your words wisely Clegg. What's been laughable is your ability to recruit players based on this feeble wage structure which is why we'r ein this mess. No-one this side of the fence is laughing any more!

Trotting out exactly the same old lines in the lead up to Keane's sacking.

What a load of rubbish, you either back the manager by letting him bring players in we badly need, not just loans and freebies. Or you get rid and back the new manager. Im affraid we wont go anywhere without gambling a bit, there are too many clubs in this division with better players.

So its Harrys fault then!
Barnsley last year, 2 - 0 down at half time,...PJ almost went until we turned it round 2nd half.
Barnsley Saturday...what price another defeat and he is history? Spooky.

I JUST DON'T KNOW ANYMORE....... I USUALLY AM ALL FOR GIVING MANAGERS TIME BUT I DON'T WANT IT TO BE LEFT TOO LATE. IF THE BAD RUN CONTINUES WE ARE IN FOR ANOTHER MEDIOCRE SEASON.........OR WORSE.

I'm all for instant communication but some of you lot should give your brains an opportunity to spark before posting. The purpose of some quotes just seems to be as rude and aggressive as possible. Where's you creativity and your solutions?

When will some on here realise that the days of players demanding big wages in the championship are gone. When the players realise that then maybe just maybe we can start recruiting a few decent ones.

The club is still very much in debt, increasing the wage bill hugely will not alter that.

And why is everything Cleggs fault. He does at he is told by the owner. Yes he is not a football man but there are not many CEOs in football who are!

I say give it until Christmas. I still think PJ will turn it round espccially when some of the playes realise they are on a good thing at the club and get their fingers out and start performing to their potential
