Keeper Henderson Set to Become Eighth Loan
Monday, 15th Oct 2012 11:25

Town have signed West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on loan. The Blues are expected to confirm the deal on Tuesday but we understand that the Irishman has been at the club today.

Henderson was one of the trio of Portsmouth players the Blues targeted in January prior to his switch to Upton Park. Despite lengthy negotiations, the Blues were unable to agree a deal for any of the three.

In March he joined the Hammers on a temporary loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer when he signed a three-year contract. However, since then he has made only two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Henderson had joined Pompey from Bristol City in the summer of 2011 having failed to usurp ex-England international David James at Ashton Gate.

Henderson, who stands 6ft 4in tall, had previously spent time on loan at York, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil, and the Glovers’ Player of the Year award in 2010/11.

The Dubliner comes from a goalkeeping dynasty. Grandfather Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s, his father, also named Stephen, played, managed and coached at various sides in the League of Ireland.

His uncle Dave also played in the League of Ireland, for amongst others Shamrock Rovers, and another uncle, Wayne, currently plays for Preston and the Republic of Ireland.

Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett are the club's current senior keepers with the former Watford man widely criticised for his performance in the recent 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Town, who signed free agent Nigel Reo-Coker on a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, already have Massimo Luongo, Daryl Murphy, Guirane N'Daw, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bilel Mohsni and Richie Wellens on loan.

Clubs are permitted to name five domestic loan players in a matchday squad with Henderson the sixth. Murphy (Celtic) and N'Daw (St Etienne) don't count to this total with their parent clubs from 'foreign' associations.

This is f*cking ridiculous... this proves that Jewells actions in the transfer market have been sh*t by his own opinion. I actually think the people he has brought in have been very good buys yet he's like someone with ADHD at the moment getting distracted by other options so he is unable to fuse the players and the team he has. he's always looking for an outside answer. I have a very measured reaction to bad results and other bad occurances that happen with this club but this has broken my back regarding Jewell's idea and management! F*ck Paul Jewell..... F*ck him!!

I know PJ is under pressure but this is ridiculous. I really believe he has lost the plot. And what is ME doing sanctioning this for?

I've had enough of Jewell with his short term loans and short-sighted signings, this proves he is treating our own players with no respect and has no faith in anybody HE signed. FFS, Henderson had a chance to play for us and chose otherwise - I'd rather Loach played and got better/regained his confidence than this have this arse in goal.

Jewell and Clegg can do one for all I care now.

Why oh WHY does PJ KEEP signing players?! I agree that Reo-coker could be a good move, but when the hell will he let his squad settle?! We can't keep signing new players after every bad game. There's enough dead wood at our club as it is.

PJ out...again...

Blue Dwarf......i did actually! In one game yes ALB was better but Henderson has been a number 1 and played reguarly in the championship playing very well most weeks too! You have to agree Loach hasnt impressed and as much as ALB is a decent enough back up keeper he is never going to be good enough as a regular number one for us in the championship!
Jewell went with youth at the start of the season but results have dictated that they are not good enough! Do you stick with them and go down with a wimper or do something about it and get better loan players in and try and turn these results round!! If that happens why wouldnt Murphy, Ndaw, Reo Cocker, Cambell and Higgenbottom all sign longer deals? Not as though any are wanted back at there parent clubs! A gamble worth taking in my view!

WOW!

Once upon a time we used to follow a football club which had sense, reason and a good name in the game. We were passionate about that club. Now every time i open this page i feel embarrassed about what it's become!!

We can' offer Boyd good wages but we're happy to pump money into other clubs as temporary solutions!!!!??

WHO IS THIS ASTUTE BUSINESS MAN RUNNING OUR CLUB INTO THE GROUND!!!? What a farce....

8 loans. Good God! Why? Maybe it'll work, maybe it won't....but does this make any sense? Penny pinching on full time player contracts and then dumping cash on temporary staff? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND!!

Not good.

Not happy.

I can only assume that this is with a view to a permanent signing. If so OK. If not it just ridiculous.

I have backed him all the way but I am finally now saying JEWELL OUT! I startedthe season optimistic as I felt the players we had a good spirit/core to the team. Not the best ability but players like Lee Martin, Andy Drury, Scott Loch, Jason Scotland, Luke Hyam etc. Players who really wanted to play for ITFC. Now we are yet again going down the mercenary/loan route.

That maybe harsh but fact of the matter is this season is already in tatters and we are getting all these loanees in to try and keep us up.

Hasn't PJ had enough time to get the team he wants without resorting to all these loans...

This is not the way i envisaged ITFC ever turning out..

This is so wrong..

The direction Jewell is taking the club is down a one way street to self destruction.

Surely he should be spending the international break working on the tactical side of our play such as set pieces, as he himself has identified that by doing this effectively can win or lose tight games.

What is he doing instead ? Getting a vast quantity of players together who haven't had time to settle, let alone them understand what they need to be doing at set plays / key moments during a game.

Wellans and Campbell epitomise this by signing them then playing them both without any training sessions.

We got what we planned for against Cardiff and he is making the same mistake again this week.

Evans should get his finger out and offer a trial to Craig Gordon who is still available on a free!!!!

I logged on and thought it was April 1st!
I know that Loach cost us the last game but is this necessary? And another loan. Oh dear oh dear. Jewell and Clegg out!

Why?!?! Not only do we not need him, he was 1 of the 3 money grabbing turds who messed us around for a month then chose to be a west ham reserve. Sorry but i'd rather see him rot at upton park than sign for us!

Bit baffled as to the negativity of this signing. Every Club at our level and above needs 3 goalkeepers and we now have them. We can't sign anyone permanently now so we have to loan. We all have our opinions on our players but for me Loach is not the answer and ALB is definitely not the answer. Loach is popular because he is a Town fan but you have to get real he is an average goalkeeper who Watford could not wait to get rid of hence the cheap price. I have seen most of our games this season and I can tell you if Loach has come and collected more than 2 crosses then I stand corrected. This to me is a sensible signing bearing in mind we could lose Loach or ALB at any time through injury.
I'll await the abuse !!!

It's seems quite ironic that Loach is getting the boot after 1 dodgy game yet Jewell is still here after 22 dodgy months..there's no justice,is there?

Our club is becoming a laughing stock under this regime.

Maybe we should loan out Paul Jewell for 3 months and see how we get on without him !!

for me, this is a pointless signing. You disappoint AGAIN pj

harby1 added 13:18 - Oct 15
Its not one dodgy game though is it! He hasnt been up to the job all season! The back four has no cofidence in him! We defend deeper because he wont come off his line! Everytime a ball comes into our box you have to close your eyes because you just know he's not going to come and collect! Other teams realise this and play on his weaknesses!

Blue_Dwarf added 13:22 - Oct 15
Harby1 you contradict yourself greatly. You state ALB was better than Henderson but it was ONLY 1 game yet you make your mind up on Loach after less than a dozen games. People like you deserve the mess ITFC is now in. Others have been around and no what ITFC stood for before the current regime were even making their first million. PJ is a disgraceful manager he invested in Loach and now is casting him adrift for a player who has not played much football this season and is OWNED by another club.... ITFC RIP

I have not been to a game this season yet, and seem to be getting mixed reports on Loach's ability. If it does transpire though that he is dropped on the back of the Cardiff game (which I did see on TV) should Cresswell not also be dropped? As for both of the goals Helgusson (can't be arsed to see if I spelt it right) came round the back of him (oo-err missus) while he stood flat footed.

I am of course, saying this a little tongue in cheek, but the point I am really trying to make is.....

PJ is a complete TIT! I was going to try and say something more intelligent, but I have lost the will.......such a shame.

This is like living in some Kafkian nightmare. Every time I think we have reached a nadir, Jewell makes yet another absurd decision. This must be what it is like having some-one mentally ill managing your club. If Clegg wasn't as spineless a chief executive as you could possibly appoint, then perhaps he could stop this nonsense.... so the question is when will the Scarlet Pimpernel Evans finally end this torment?
