Keeper Henderson Set to Become Eighth Loan
Monday, 15th Oct 2012 11:25

Town have signed West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on loan. The Blues are expected to confirm the deal on Tuesday but we understand that the Irishman has been at the club today.

Henderson was one of the trio of Portsmouth players the Blues targeted in January prior to his switch to Upton Park. Despite lengthy negotiations, the Blues were unable to agree a deal for any of the three.

In March he joined the Hammers on a temporary loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer when he signed a three-year contract. However, since then he has made only two starts in the Capital One Cup.

Republic of Ireland U21 international keeper Henderson had joined Pompey from Bristol City in the summer of 2011 having failed to usurp ex-England international David James at Ashton Gate.

Henderson, who stands 6ft 4in tall, had previously spent time on loan at York, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil, and the Glovers’ Player of the Year award in 2010/11.

The Dubliner comes from a goalkeeping dynasty. Grandfather Paddy played for Shamrock Rovers in the 1960s, his father, also named Stephen, played, managed and coached at various sides in the League of Ireland.

His uncle Dave also played in the League of Ireland, for amongst others Shamrock Rovers, and another uncle, Wayne, currently plays for Preston and the Republic of Ireland.

Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett are the club's current senior keepers with the former Watford man widely criticised for his performance in the recent 2-1 home defeat to Cardiff City.

Town, who signed free agent Nigel Reo-Coker on a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, already have Massimo Luongo, Daryl Murphy, Guirane N'Daw, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell, Bilel Mohsni and Richie Wellens on loan.

Clubs are permitted to name five domestic loan players in a matchday squad with Henderson the sixth. Murphy (Celtic) and N'Daw (St Etienne) don't count to this total with their parent clubs from 'foreign' associations.

Can you imagine the team down on the training pitch - oi thingy pass to what's his name, no not him the other fella. Now fella stick a cross in to the tall bloke, tall bloke knock it back to shorty, shorty lay it off to the guy that looks like you know, yeah him.

And afterwards in the canteen the team play ' who has got the longest contract buys the teas'

By the way any truth in the rumour that the players' names on the new team shirts wash off after three months?

alfromcol - unusual, but credit where it's due, I agree with you on all the points you make.

The fact that there is no contact / liaison / explanation from Evans, Clegg shows total contempt for loyal supporters, and is shameful.
Would be quite difficult to name another Club where that happens, I would guess.

Ithink PJ's logic is if we sign half of worlds players on loan then there might be a chance that one of them can kick a ball

h32. while i have to say i agree with ur comments about jewell, ur comments on evans running of the club is rubbish. yes, i do think he should say something to the fans so we know what his plans and strategy for the club are, but there are very few clubs in this country where the owners or the ceos are football people, so we are not alone in this. some of the top clubs in the premier league are owned by non football people and they not having problems. really do believe that if we were doing well on the pitch that no1 would even be questioning anything at all about the hierarchy of this club. any peoblems this club is having at the mo are, imo, totally down to pj and his coaching staff, & the players. sort out the results on the pitch & all the fans will be happy. simple as.

I was going to post something like this, but then thought better of it:

Casting adrift? Says who? Really, friends. My fellow supporters. There are about 3 sensible posts out of 7 pages here. We need 3 goal keepers. What if Loach is injured? What if he shows that is not up for it in training? Is ALB our answer? What about competition of places? What about Loach being pushed to be a better keeper through "c.o.m.p.e.t.i.t.i.o.n." ? Rant after rant; you've stopped breathing and you're stomping your feet. There is a vortex of negativity in Ipswich and it's got sod all to do with the "bad management" that is exclusive to your own tiny universe. Goodness. Eat less sugar, stay away from the high fructose corn syrup. I also heartily recommend yoga combined with a high PH diet.

As I said, I am deciding to NOT post this, just to avoid any potential unpleasantness, however I feel inside about our "beloved club, etc.". Peace.

I'm more confused than anything else.

You would assume Henderson will be involved otherwise what is the point, it wouldn't benefit either club or the player to be a bench warmer here. Maybe he is competition as some of you suggest but honestly whats the point in bringing in another new body to plug a gap for a few months. Gutted for Loach if that turns out I be the case, maybe he isn't the greatest keeper in the league but wins young and with football and confidence he could improve.

The biggest concern for me is that this could threaten the confidence I our permanent number 1 who loves the club and has more fire than the rest of the team/management put together. I would rather see us lose due to odd error for the greater good than paper cracks with a loan signing.

I don't recognise the team or the club anymore. I hope this influx of players turns the corner for us but it just stinks of a desperate last convulsion of a dying era.

I think we need a Keeper- not at all sure about Loach, did not see the Huddersfield game when he was good but thought at Barnsley he lacked conviction. Our current position suggests that we should not be taking too many chances with him
Bewildered by all the signings since the Brighton game -when we looked OK-each player signed since seems good but it totally contradicts all mutterings on FFP from Jewell and Clegg and developing a young squad since Jan this year.
My hope is that this is not evidence of panic stations at Portman Road and that the loan signings are part of a plan to test players who we know we like, will be available to buy in January with knowledge that a deal on wages and transfer fees can be done.
Its a Hope but not an expectation.

So if the owner and/or ceo aren't football people, why not take a leaf out of Mr Branson s book and surround yourself with people who know what they are supposed to be doing.

Relax guys. We sign everyone. No players left to play for anyone else. We win.

Simples.

is there a news blackout?

must be nearly 12 hours without Stan and Ollie signing someone who needs to get fit at our expense

What an outstanding signing!

Outstanding in the fact that it is so pointless its almost funny.

From what I saw of Loach against Wolves and Charlton I can understand why Jewell has opted to bring another keeper in.It appeared to me there was no confidence between Loach and his defense, poor kicking ability maybe a half decent shot stopper but you need a keeper who bosses his area.

Complete waste of time. ME SC & PJ should have loan the whole Man City reserve team & ITFC probably sitting on top of championship table by now!

Muah hahaha...... This is sad state really

I cant quite beleive what is going on here, all these loans are getting out of hand. I did think itwas ok with around 5 but 8 we will become the laughing stock of this league . Has PJ finally lost the plot? I did support him but now i have my doubts as to how he will turn this round. 1 more loss on saturday and he must be gone.

Presumably we have this many loan players because..

a)Evans thinks he has given PJ enough budget to spend on buying players
b)No decent players want to sign permanent deals, given our current status
c)Our current status means that PJ is looking for options to improve

Just sit back a moment and ponder this thought. I'm not in any way advocating Paul Jewels stay, Im just offering another possibility of what is happening at this club of ours.....
Is it not possible that Marcus Evens is playing "Football manager" here? Paul Jewel is under contract under him and perhaps needs the job rather than wants the job.
Im not convinced that all of this loan dealing is of Paul Jewels doing......not entirely.

I love our club... But this painful existance is the worst experience ever! I can't remember a worse team that has been in place at this once great and respected club. When Evans opted to be faceless I thought it was quite peculiar but it was his choice, now as supporters we are left in the dark about everything relating to our club and its aspirations or direction etc. I have never felt so detached from our club. The dark clouds are gathering at pace over PR. These really are sad Times!
