Youngsters Could Go Out On Loan
Friday, 19th Oct 2012 06:01

Town boss Paul Jewell says that while he’s going to stick Town’s loan signings at the current level of eight, some of the younger members of the squad could be moved out on a similar basis in order to gain experience. Striker Ronan Murray, who spent much of last season with Swindon, and left-back Joe Whight would appear the most likely candidates to be sent out for spells if clubs can be found for them.

Jewell says that with one of the six domestic loanees having to be left out of a matchday squad, there will be no more additions on that basis: “We’d have to get a new dressing room!

“It’s difficult with all the loan players, we can only have five on the teamsheet, so I would have to say at this moment, no.

“Maybe one or two can go out on loan to gain some experience maybe, one or two of the younger ones.”

He says he’s talked to some of the youngsters such as Murray: “I’ve spoken with them, they’re good lads but they need to go and play serious football rather than the U21s.

“Luke Hyam’s a little bit different because he’s played in our first team but that bang he took against Barnsley’s knocked him back a little bit, but we’ll see how things pan out.”

One player who won’t be joining the club is former Chelsea keeper Rhys Taylor who was recently on trial and played in the 3-2 U21s victory over Barnet: “He was just in doing a bit of training with us. That won’t be going any further.”

OMG. The Academy coaches will love to hear PJ saying that the under 21 League is not serious. Indicative of current club thinking.

How would Jewell know the level of the u21 league, not like he ever bothers going to watch it

Groundhog season again. Mediocre loanees with the odd diamond, whilst we farm out our youngsters. I would much rather watch the youth playing in an Ipswich shirt, than watching them play & score goals on the FL show.

I don't think it's too bad sending out youngsters on loan, enables them to play some competitive games, might also send a message to Jewell if they perform well, Drury done the same last season!

at itfcjoe, i am a referee at the youth academy quite regularly and in the last year Jewell has watched at least 5 of the games I have refereed and that includes under 9's through to u16's so don't just have a pop at him and claim he doesn't do anything when you have no proof

I referee quite regularly and in the last year I have never seen Jewell at any of my games.

Big foot blue are you having a laugh???? I think you maybe getting jewell confused with the tea lady. My boy is a youth player and I am up there 3 times a week including weekend and I can honestly say I have not seen him there once. It's a well known fact at ipswich that he don't care about the youth this has been made clear on numerous times.

I've never been to a youth game at all - but I can agree that I have never seen PJ nor any tea ladies there either! :)
Hoping to see a tea lady at the Burnley match when I'm down in Town, but expect to see PJ ONLY if we have won a few games on the trot by then.
