Town Linked With McCarthy Talks
Friday, 26th Oct 2012 20:14

Town are reported to have spoken to former Millwall, Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Wolves boss Mick McCarthy. The 53-year-old has always been viewed as amongst the experienced bosses the Blues would be interested in speaking to as they look for a replacement for Paul Jewell, who left by mutual consent on Wednesday.

Presumably as a result of the reports, the odds on McCarthy becoming the next Blues boss have tumbled with some bookmakers

The club are remaining tight-lipped regarding potential targets, refusing to rule in or out any specific individuals.

McCarthy, who left Wolves in February and spoke to Nottingham Forest this summer, would appear to fit the profile of the new manager Town are looking for as outlined by chief executive Simon Clegg at Wednesday’s Supporters Club AGM: “This is not going to be a high-risk appointment.

“We need to have someone that we’ve got confidence in, who has got the necessary experience and skill-base to get us out of this current hole and get us to where we want to go in the long run.”

Bearing in mind what Clegg has said and the state we're in following 3 poor managers, i think we can expect Mick or Davies or possibly Curbs. Most others mentioned so far have risks attached so i doubt Evans will be paying out for any more mistakes!
I dont think Curbs will be approached and somehow dont think Coyle will be thought of any better that Jewell so i think its a straight fight between davies and MMcM. Either one will be good for us in present state.

Big mick seems exactly what we need at the moment; a strong disciplined character who will get 100% from the team. A great appointment in my opinion

Boring football is what we have been watching under our last 3 managers and to add to that not many wins. Get MM in to get some sort of order, discipline into this squad. Select or buy a 'real Captain' who demands respect and more desire from this squad.

rudeboyblue. u said it yourself. IF it was to be believed. personally i wouldnt believe what keane wrote. he got a very high opinion of himself. that why after being sacked here he actually said that this wasnt the right club for him(when we all know it the other way round). for me, mccarthy would be a very good choice. so, hes boring to listen to. who cares, as long as the results improve?

I suspect that McCarthy would love to be able to show that he could do a better job here than Keano. Not too difficult mind...

Would welcome him here to get us out of the relegation zone. Not 100% long term though, at least we know Roy Keane would not be seen any where near Portman road which is a plus factor! :)

McCarthy not a bad guy, find him honest, direct, quite personable. Would have said same about PJ. Lasted way longer than 5 mins in the Prem, which is all Billy Davies achieved. Can't believe he's attracting the backers he is here, the man is a serial failure. Coyle failed, I like Ollie, and 3 years ago leaving Blackpool for Ipswich would seem an upward step..., but now it's just not happening.

But it has to be Curbs. He's not a dinosaur for goodness sake. He'll know what's what. Experienced at taking clubs onwards and upwards. Experienced in facing adversity and WINNING. Prem class. We'd be lucky to get him. Move NOW before Palace get in!! Don't fluff your lines ME/Cleggy like the last 2 occasions, get Curbs in!

We need a character who's going to play football- and be long term- only Harry or Holloway will do IMHO

Walk the Walk...! Harry or Holloway?? Wake up! Mourinho..., Guardiola..., Fergusen, why not??! Harry and Holloway ARE NOT COMING!

Look at who's available. Who's experienced. (Not Shearer). Who's not a nutter/gamble (not Di Canio, Hoddle, Shearer). Who's not a serial failure (Davies, McCarthy, Cotterill, Burley)..., step forward CURBS.

Walk the Walk - I'm sure Charlton fans would take mid table Prem, where he left them, than the 3rd tier football they had before he pulled them up by the boot-strings, or what they slumped to after he left...!!

Just ask Charlton fans...?? You been down the pub mate...?

perfect on a deal till end of the season and use the time to find a longterm manager. he should keep us up and sort out the socalled players/team. should be other managers out of jobs in the summer. when we should be safe and stable.

@Hatman- find a Charlton fan with a good word to say lol. We can do much better- and we should aim much higher than this guy. He's another Jewell- some success but out of touch. Sorry mate but you need to be looking forward!!

The most important aim this season is to avoid relegation. Right now if we come fourth bottom that's a successful season.
I have no doubt that McCarthy would keep us up and kick the butt of some of our "arrogant" players.
His no-nonsense approach is badly needed.
Would love to see him in charge with Shearer as Assistant- being groomed long-term for the job.
Rest of Season plus next season contract for McCarthy would be good. Boring as f*** appointment but that really doesn't matter. We need the mess left by Keano and Jewellio sorted out expresso.
He plays a brand of long ball football that works and loves getting players in who can actually play it (remember Niall Quinn etc). Likes 'battling' and 'big' footballers. Will take one look at the squad and sort out the weeds from the flowers.
Took no nonsense from Keane all those years ago, and has been there/done that on all levels.
Right now in the position we are in? An excellent appointment.
