McCarthy Hurt By Hammering
Saturday, 17th Nov 2012 18:19

Town boss Mick McCarthy pulled no punches after the Blues were hammered 6-0 at Leicester. The Blues manager admitted that he was hurt by the "embarrassing" display, the second away thrashing in the first few weeks of his Town tenure.

McCarthy told the media after the game: “If you want to put awful, abject, poor, I’m quite happy if you want to put that. It was poor from giving the penalty away.

“We talked about being hard to beat and not giving anything stupid away because we’re brittle, we’re timid at the minute.

“You don’t get used to being beaten, but it just develops and you lose one and then another and the manner in which we conceded the goals today was dreadful.

“The penalty should never have been, it should have been cleared, and then somebody runs from midfield and we don’t pick him up and he ends up shooting and it hits Nugent and goes in. It’s embarrassing.”

Whether the eighth-minute spotkick which was awarded for a foul on Lloyd Dyer by Stephen Henderson should have been given was debatable and the Blues boss admitted he wasn’t sure that it should have been: “I wasn’t certain at the time.

“I’ve only seen it the picture from the other side, so you can’t actually see whether there’s any contact.

“But it makes no odds. If we’d have gone across and cleared it — no penalty, throw-in. I’m not going to argue about it, he’s given it. We could have avoided it.”

He says the manner of the loss was difficult to take given that he builds his teams from a solid base: “It does hurt me, of course.

“I take pride in my teams being organised, hard to beat, tough, resolute and, if we can, if we get that organised, good football as well because I’m relying on that, as two Championships will prove. We’ve had good teams.

“We’ve got to sort the first one out. We’ve had two games and, although Crystal Palace wasn’t awful, this one was.”

McCarthy now moves his thoughts on to next week’s home game: “We’ve got Peterborough coming up. I can’t do anything about this one, I’ll look at it on Monday and we’ll take the bones out of it.

“Analyse it, look at it and try and make sure it doesn’t happen again. But if we keep making mistakes it’s going to be difficult.”

The former Ireland boss says confidence is the biggest issue in the squad at present: “When it is a little bit brittle, which it is at the minute, everyone’s feeling that way.

“It was a great feeling last week, and then to concede one the way that we did, you can almost see everyone go ‘Here we go again’. We’ve got to get shot of that.

“If there are any positives, I’d have taken the six points that we’ve got. Were we expected to beat Crystal Palace and Leicester? Probably not the way we were in the team, but I expect us to play better and not to be humiliated like we were.”

Leicester assistant manager Craig Shakespeare was unsurprisingly delighted, feeling that early performances might have resulted in similar scorelines: “You hope that if you put in the performances, you turn out a result like that.

“But over the course of the season I think some of the football, some of the attacking play, has been outstanding and in all honesty we’ve missed the chances, there’s no getting away from the fact.

“I think it’s important in any Championship game to get the first goal and when we got that it seemed to settle everyone down a bit.

“And then to go and score the amount we did, and share the goals around, I thought we were very professional today from start to finish. I thought it was a very accomplished performance.”

This is my first comment on twtd, I hope it doesn't annoy anyone.
ITFC has always been a club that has put youth through to it's first team. We have a lad in the youth team Jack Marriott that seems to be scoring for fun, why not give him a try. That isn't taking anything away from DJ I thought he worked really hard last week. Luke Hyam in the games I 've seen him play hasn't done anything wrong. We are in trouble with a team that isn't consistent. I hate the way clubs in trouble use the loan market. I would rather go down a division with young players coming through than with players whose intentions might be elsewhere. I could go on forever on why I think this great club is in the position it is but this post has gone on for long enough.

Our goal difference is going to be horrendous by the end of the season.
Lack lustre performance.
This all goes back to a Mr Roy Keane.
We should have kept Magilton in charge and given him money. instead Roy Keane has ruined our squad.
Meanwhile Clegg has ruined our club.

i came all the way from South Africa to watch this shower of S%6T i have never seen such a poor Ipswich team in Forty years, they can send the goalkeeper and the right back packing they were useless! when the leicester fans started chanting you only score when its snowing i up and left! i will not go again until we get rid of all the loan players and i can see that the players on the pitch are proud to wear the shirt! i would rather go down fighting than have our club humiliated in this way ever again! Mick kick them all out and play the reserves!

Lovin Big Mick. Honest, pulling no punches. The bottom line is, he is as unhappy as we are & he won't put up with that shower.

I trust MM to turn this around.

Next weeks game we must not lose or we will be back on the bottom again and back to square one.
We need the three points to put the moral back in the players and the supporters as everybody is feeling down at the moment.
Pick a team you can trust Mick a team that want to win this game and give their all even if it mean dropping loan players and playing mostly our own players.
The keeper must be dropped now because he is one you cant trust anymore .
Bring players in who want to play for IPSWICH TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB with pride.

Disgraceful garbage week after week. Send these loaners away for god sake. Henderson goodbye..
What have we got to lose by playing our youngsters? Hyam Carson Mohsni Loach Lawrence Smith .Marriott on the bench.
I am at the lowest low and personally I put 90pct of the blame firmly on Clegg

After the feeling of last Saturday to the one of this.

Our seasons objective is to finish 4th bottom as a minimum. Big Mick has had 3 away games out of first 4 games in charge and we have won 2 lost 2, got 6 points. The key is that is more than those teams around us and that is what we have to do.

However bad yesterday was our goal difference was already shot.

I would send Henderson back to free up another loan player who can actually make a difference in a positive way.

We, the fans need to stick together through this and however many are at PR next week need to make an atmosphere.

MM will turn us round but there has been 4 years of dross to clear up.

After all, Mr jewell said that this was his best ever squad!!

In Mick we trust and we need to stick together.

I was at the game and we really are that bad, it is embarrassing and shocking. Lloyd Dyer had a field day he murdered us. We have no pace, no width in the side we have no guts. The Leicester side were 1st to every loose ball. Only player to have any credit given is Ndaw.

Embarrassing, this bunch of players should hang their heads in shame.

I feel sorry for Mick, I wonder if he'll stick around long with this bunch of wasters but I hope he does because I believe he is the man to take us forward.

A good clear out needed in January/Summer and then we can move on from there.

Having supported the Blues for several decades and been fortunate enough to experience the "golden era" of the 70's and early 80's, this is definitely an all time low! BUT - although things are are looking bleak, embarrassing, desperate and depressing, this is still only MID NOVEMBER! Lets just believe that we have hit the depths and things can now only get better. Town have time, hopefully money and a proven Manager to deal with the many problems that face us. At present there are an accumulation of issues that have been kindly left to us by the last two managers and these will be systematically dealt with by MM. We will look back on these dark times at the end of the season when we will be sitting at worst mid table. Lets keep our chins up!!

I was there very sadly. I have to say just a thought. When i saw reo coker jogging back towards our defense on two occasions he was asking chambers to step up and close the on running player ,but he didnt mhe back off. Chambers is no centre half he is a right back ,plays like a right back and i have to say is struggling. Higging bottam shocker , and every time lee martin plays we lose shape and discipline

MM press conference announcing his appointment , the talk on money was very much lets see where we are in January. My guess is ,if we are mid table then a lot would be spent. If we are where we are then i see not a lot. We need to ship out some of the loan players , and short contract brigade

I think the majority of people on here realise the total mess that MM has inherited. Frankly, it's amazing he has managed two wins from four games with this squad - and with his hands tied until January - it's going to be a difficult month and a half. Having said that the players should be ashamed. It's embarrassing to lose our last two away games by a combined score of 11-0; BUT this squad simply isn't good enough - and to think only a week or so before he was sacked, PJ had the nerve to say it was the best he had built!

I believe MM is the man to turn this utter shambles of a situation around - but still I ask questions of Clegg and ME - what on earth were they doing during PJ's abysmal reign?

I think as a matter of urgency, with the exception of DJ (although he looks like being recalled) and Orr (needs time) - MM must look into terminating ALL of the loans; Murphy and Henderson are an embarrassment; whilst I still don't rate the CB from Stoke. Having said that, most of our Summer signings have been poor; Loach still isn;t a great keeper (although cetainly no worse than the current joker), whilst what can you say about Chambers?

Depressing and sad times. But not MM's fault. Can only hope he can pick up as many points before January and then start building a team.

i dont think henderson/loach/alb are good enough chapionship, promotion pushing goalkeepers, but id send backhenderson, maybe give alb a chance, local lad, cant do any worse than loach or hendersn.

Secondly instead of bradley orr ANOTHER short term loan, give jack ainsley a game, couldnt fault him against huddersfield? in the last year of his contract, unfortuantly can see him moving on, because he hasnt been given the chance,
