Manager Mick McCarthy believes everyone at Portman Road needs to stick together if the Blues are to get out of the bottom three and push on from there. The Town boss shook hands with each of his players as they left the field at Leicester on Saturday, despite them having succumbed to what he described as an “awful” 6-0 defeat.

McCarthy said: “The only way we’ll survive and thrive is by being in it together.

"I’m not just going to come out here and point fingers of blame at anybody, I have to make sure they’re ready to go on Saturday. Nobody wants to go out and play badly, nobody does it on purpose.”

Asked how the dressing room was after the game, he added: “After a defeat like that there’s generally some that end up pointing fingers and screaming and shouting.

“I haven’t done that because there’s no point. It’s not the time or place. But home truths have been told. It was a really awful performance.”

While acknowledging that little was expected of Town against Leicester or Crystal Palace he says no Championship game is an impossible ask and believes the Blues should have performed much better: “There’s nothing in this league that isn’t winnable, none of them. But there are some better teams than us and these are a good side.

“When they’re playing with confidence and someone gives them the goals that we did, you get hurt buy it. We just can’t afford to be shipping goals that way.”

At the other end, McCarthy says Town’s rare threats came to nothing: “Carlos Edwards put some really good crosses in. It’s that desire to get on the end of them.

“I took DJ off because the last thing I needed was to see him injured. I thought that with 15 minutes to go it was common sense really. We weren’t going to score six really.”

Leicester assistant boss Craig Shakespeare was delighted with his club’s first 6-0 victory since they beat Carlisle United at Filbert Street in September 1982.

Shakespeare singled out man of the match Lloyd Dyer for praise: “I thought today and over the last couple of weeks, in terms of performances, he’s probably playing the best football I’ve seen him play in his career. He’s got that one thing that defenders are frightened of — pace.

“You’re all right having the pace, it’s knowing when to use it and I thought he caused Ipswich and their debutant Bradley Orr a lot of problems in the first half.

"He had a quieter second, but I think most of the damage was done in the first.”

Peterborough is a must win game without doubt, this could either make or truly break us. Big week training wise and a huge game Saturday. COYB

Leicester wont have an easier game all season & u dont expect easy games in the championship. tbh its a funny squad, we are bottom 3 in the league, we grind out a few good results & its all pats on the back and then the players immediately slack off again! Home form will be crucial & If the players can defend consistantly well (home & away) we can pick up some points on the road.

getawig added 09:01 - Nov 19 The 8 remaining fixtures of 2012 are absolutely vital for us to get away from the bottom 3 ; Pboro, Forest, Bolton, Milwall, Leeds, Bristol,Charlton and Wolves. We must be looking for at least 12 pts, if not a couple more, and we are going to have to do it with the players we have at the moment. We know who hasn't been doing it for what ever reason BUT these are the players we have until Jan and we MUST get behind them. Leicester was one of the most disgusting performances I have seen in 30 yrs of following Town and many of the players don't deserve to be at our great club BUT they are and they need our support for this vital period up to the new year. I would then expect some changes to our squad. Your club needs you.

OK so let's keep a context - yes Palace and Leicester were awful results and performances but is 6 points from 12 such a bad return? NO, I'm NOT saying that it is good enough (particularly with a -9 goal difference in those 4 games - ouch !) but with a new manager in to sort out a REAL mess it is not a bad start for him. He will have learned a lot about his current squad and I am confident that he will get his £1m bonus for keeping us up. Whether we recognise the squad at the end of the Jan transfer window or not is another matter - but for now, Brian Roxy Ferry ... "come on, come on you Blues"

blueherts added 09:39 - Nov 19 Not only do we need points and wins now but we need a big LIFT at the Club Three players , i believe that could do that ; 1) Loach back - Ipswich - will do no worst than Henderson and confidence wise be good Ship out Henderson 2)Start Hyam in the Middle - he will work his socks off and is tough and so much fitter than the other two lumps in the middle 3) Get Connor back - he will be so motivated , lift the whole place , and is a good footballer - adds so much to the team He would be great alongside DJ or MC If that happens by Saturday I think alot of people on here would be happy WE NEED FEEL GOOD AND POINTS

bluelady added 09:52 - Nov 19 well I like his attitude, unlike other previous managers who have publically named individual players. I do think Loach deserves a chance, Henderson is very very poor. Orr has had his confidence knocked in recent weeks so hopefully he will get better, i have to say Edwards (unlike against Burnley) did not cover at all which is a shame as his pace was needed in support against such a pacey winger, Edwards just seemed to forget all defensive duties leaving Orr exposed. It kinda seems we are not a team where the odd player has an off game, it seems we stick together as a team so its either all on form or all off form, very odd indeed! im going saturday but without the optimism i left the ground with after the Burnley game :-(

IvorFeeling added 10:09 - Nov 19 Peterboro is not a must win game. Yes I want to win and sure we all do but it is not a must win. We do need to make PR a fortress again and see the players actually playing without fear - get the basics right and the playing without fear will come. With 4 home games before Christmas we need a minimum of 8 pts and there is a good chance of picking up points from both Bolton and Leeds. An average of 1.5 or more a game is good enough to keep us in the league, remember that!

blueherts added 11:33 - Nov 19 Put Chambers at Right back he did ok against Burnley - Part of problem on Saturday , and big Mick would have known this - Dyer is and always has been bit of a handful so it was key Edwards supported Orr - it never happened as Edwards was too busy being sucked in the middle to mop up after the two big lumps in the middle - esp RC Oh and Saturday is a MUST WIN game - not just because it is against another struggling team but Home after Saturdays performance it is key to get a win - luckily all those around us slipped - lets catch Leeds !! next - horrible team
