Campbell Faces Big Decisions
Friday, 23rd Nov 2012 06:00

DJ Campbell has revealed that QPR have told him they want him back at Loftus Road in January. The 31-year-old, who is open to staying with Town permanently but not extending his loan which is up on January 5th, admits he has decisions to make come the new year.

Campbell, who cost Rangers £1.2 million from Blackpool in July last year, was plagued by injuries in his first season at the club and to date has scored just once in 12 games, nine of them as a substitute.

He said: “QPR have spoken to my advisors and expressed an interest in me going back there in January. My contract is up at the end of the season.

“It will be interesting to see what happens in January but I will only do what suits me and my family, whether it’s signing full-time for Ipswich, going back to QPR or moving somewhere else on a permanent deal.

“Although my QPR contract is up in the summer, if I play a certain amount of games I will get another year. I’d like to sort my future out in January rather than become a free agent in the summer and not know where I’m going.”

Rangers are bottom of the Premier League without a win all season and under-fire boss Mark Hughes might not be in charge for much longer [Hughes has now been sacked - TWTD].

Campbell added: “I’ve known for some time, since soon after I came here, that Mark Hughes wanted me to go back in January.

“But it’s a question of whether I want to go back after all that’s happened. I’m happy here and staying permanently is definitely something I would consider.

“I am in a tough position really and I have a big decision to make in January. QPR are my club, the club I have supported from a young age, but it hasn’t quite worked out how I had hoped it would.

“I wasn’t named in Mark Hughes’s squad of 25 so I can’t go back until January when they can change the 25. They have asked me if I will play for Mark Hughes but it’s not personal between me and the gaffer.

“When I was left out of the 25 I had to train with the reserves and I like to think I’m better than that. It hurt me the way I was treated.

“But they have made the first contact to say they want me back. It’s a club that is close to my heart so it’s something that I’ll have to think seriously about.”

Couldn't blame him if he went back after all it is the team he grow up supporting but I think if he stays here he will be in with a chance of winning something I.e playoff final rather than relegation back to this league. Yes i still think we have a chance all be it a slim one.

Even with the neck tattoos, he is our best chance of getting out of this mess and the only one capable of regularly sticking the ball into the net. Yes, think about it as you say DJ, then get on and sign for us!

Likelihood of playoffs btw is something similar to it snowing chocolate mouse this Christmas

Lets not get focused on one stricker. It's not all about him and his family, to us it's about our club. Plenty more fish in the sea! We could all give 5 names off the top of our head (who would be just as good) that would be transfer targets come January sales time.

i can see hughes getting sacked and DJ going back to QPR with a clean slate to earn a contract extension or DJ joining Palace. DJ joining us is very slim i'm afraid, hope to be wrong though.

Play off talk for this season is ridiculous , get real !!!! fourth from bottom will be a result.....COYB

I agree with (BIG AL) lets not get panicing about what one player does or dos'n't do there has been a lot more impotant players gone before dj cambell over the years. This not to say that he could not be a good servant to the club and im sure he would be welcome by supporters and MM but future here has got to suit both parties,i fear DJs comments on this matter leading to a game of cat and mouse which in my mind is not a situation we have time to get tied up in right now wait till january MM will already have some good ideas for that transfer window.

Analysts have confirmed that in 25 years time you will be never more than 6 feet away from someone who has been on loan at ITFC.

bedsitfc - a goal diff of -25 suggests we have NO chance of the playoffs this season ! Just staying up is the plan. Wake Up !

Oli being at Palace seems ominus - suspect playing for him in his own backyard will be too great a draw for him, if not wanted by QPR.....shame, I fear we are unlikely to see weather he would join the 'Jimmy' club (good until he signed a contract!)

This seems a bit like the McCauley cat and mouse game to me! COYB

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but he has a far better chance scoring goals and building up his striker profile late in his career here in the Championship than he does warming the bench and the odd appearance against big Premiership sides.

I've got alot of respect for DJ, when he joined we were struggling even more than now but he hasn't hidden and has looked up for the fight every game and to score four goals in eight games is a good achievement because he has feeded of scraps to be honest, the two goals he has scored have given us four extra points which could prove invaluable. I feel Qpr are using him slightly, to get him to train with the reserves and not name him in the squad to suddenly luring him back because of how bad they are doing badly is a little wrong in my opinion, maybe Hughes should have had faith in him and they may not be bottom of the league, instead of going for all the big names who haven't delivered. You still have a big part to play for us DJ, now until January is important so keep giving your all and try and help guide us out the bottom three reggardless of where you end up.

Reading this reminds me, that football players don't always make the greatest agents !

Well Mark Hughes has just been sacked so guess that's DJ's position at QPR totally changed! Would be great to have him permanently though.

Old Harry looks set to become their new manager! Lets hope Marcus Evans gets in touch with him and let us keep DJ!

Prospect of working for Harry may seem attractive to him. Come to think of it, anyone other than Mark Hughes would be better.

Did I hear a day or so ago that Harry was considering an international job - he is excellent at bluffing and covering his tracks !

REALLY hope Chopra will fulfil his potential in the vacuum that DJ WILL leave when he goes back - but for ANY striker to play well and score goals we need a good solid 442 which I would use home AND away. I agree that play off is a dream, but personally I am looking for a solid mid-table finish. Go on - call me deluded!!

Just getting out of the bottom 3 will be deemed a success. I've already written off this season. Start afresh in Aug with no or very few loanees.
