McCarthy Hoping for Busy January
Wednesday, 2nd Jan 2013 14:47

Manager Mick McCarthy says he’s hoping for a busy January transfer window as he looks to add to his squad. Striker DJ Campbell is his top target, while the Blues boss has previously said he wants to keep all of his remaining loanees.

McCarthy told the club site: “I’m hoping it will be a busy January and I’m certainly looking to get some reinforcements in.

“The lads we’ve got here are great and have done very well recently but I think we need more to sustain our league position.

“We’ve got a few lads coming to the end of their loan deals, with DJ having gone back to QPR.

“I’d like to keep DJ and I’ll be speaking to Harry but, at the same time, he’s a QPR player so any deal will be down to them first and foremost.”

If Campbell doesn't return to Portman Road McCarthy has said he will look for an alternative new striker, while a replacement for central defender Danny Higginbotham, who has joined Sheffield United, is another priority.

Meanwhile, fringe players such as Jason Scotland, who is interesting League One Preston, could move on.

Would like some wingers with a bit of end product! martin lacks any end product. Edwards is past it as well although could be a good impact player. We also need a right sided center half as chambers looks out of depth, okay as back up. Hendersen can go back to west ham also.

We need this, we need that, blah blah blah.

Let MM & TC do thier jobs that they are paid to do.

All of us on here knows nothing other wise we'd all be managers.

They will live by the sword and they die by the sword.

So faith in our manager must be in the upper most of our minds.

The Promised land may yet come, but not this year, may not next, but it will.

We are IPSWICH TOWN FC and we will live forever in the history of this great sport.

Richie and Judge good shouts (as I have been saying for 9 months) but both wide players. Need a creative imposing central midfielder or a quick up and down type as well with a goal threat. Surely there is someone out there (Holland? Norway?).

Nice comment Vinnieblue, but I don't quite see the point in it...this is a discussion board, for discussions not philosophy lectures. Don't think we need a new RB, we need to have faith in Hewitt, which I think MM will. Edwards is steady on the right, and always puts in a shift. So priorities have to be a replacement for Higginbotham, and I think another attacking midfielder to complement Martin. I have a good feeling about DJ returning...but that's based on my belief that Harry is a decent man!

January will be an interesting month. Lets hope Mick is supported by Clegg and Evans in any deals he wants to complete

No Campbell in the QPR squad...
Here's hoping its a done deal!

Remember what Harry Redknapp has been quoted as saying in the papers about QPR's position; other clubs are reluctant to release decent players at this time of year and if they think that the other club is desperate then they will demand their pound of flesh before they do.

Interesting that nobody has commented on the bit about Scotland being kept an eye on by Preston. I've always liked Scotland - while he may not be the most agile of strikers he is always a threat with those shots from just outside the box. If he does go then we definitely need another striker who has an eye for goal.

Keanish - don't read too much into it as loan for DJ was upto 5th Jan and unlikely that any pro would play 2 league matches in 24 hours. Here's hopeing though!

MM has done a great job since he started and he think he will ultimately be successful , but i really cant see what he sees in NRC, slow, overweight and doesn't play the ball forward ever.
I would play Hyam and N'Daw every time. Hopefully we can sign N'Daw on a full time deal (at the seasons end), get DJ, at least one more defender and another wide man.
Could be an interesting month.

@ BlueBadger what an absolutely pathetic comment! It really riles my goat when people are so ruddy impatient - if we haven't signed anyone by the end of the week then I think we will all be able to sympathise a bit more with your opinions.

Now friends, and I'd like to consider us all friends on this forum, let's get behind the team on Saturday and grab those 3 points! COYB

Now that's the kind of attitude that I like to see Dozzells Bobblehat! Treat every game as a knockout and who knows where we'll be come June :)

You are not wrong Blue Badger. We are going backwards. At this stage last season we were about to go on a run of play off form.

Can you honestly see this happening unless McCarthy pulls his finger out and signs some players quickly?

Bloody hell, there's no pleasing some people. MM has turned a not very good bunch of players into a passably good team in a very short space of time. We should be grateful to him for what has been achieved so far because, up until a few weeks ago, that was a team that looked and felt like it was getting relegated. Give the man a chance! I'm sure that the vast majority of fans agree with me, I'm just astonished at the negativity of some. But while we're here I think that RC is an absolute waste of space, who doesn't work remotely hard enough. And has a big fat belly. There, I threw in some negative stuff, just to provide some balance.

If we can't get dj Campbell then I say go for billy sharp!! He won't have forgotten are fans anytime soon, and maybe Dorrens on a loan if possible?!

No to Sharp, not into nicey nice as hinted.. Stearman not good enough.. Dont know anything about Zubar, apart from a negative comment from Wolves fan.. think we should push the boat out for a CB, forward and bring in keeper permanantly 'not Henderson'

I see the knockers are back in form.
Its just two days into the transfer market and they are moaning because Mick has not signed nobody yet
Mick has got us from bottom of the table when he took over with just 7 points to out of the relegation places and we now have 30 points so what more do you want.
MM stands for miracle man and this Manager wont only keep us up this season
he will if you give him time sign some top players and he will get us into the premier league at sometime while he is our Manager.
Where do you knockers think we would be now if Jewell was still our Manager
Give the bloke a chance and let him do what he is payed for and get off his back
because Mick will end up adding his name to some of the great Managers that Ipswich Town has had in the past.
