McCarthy Delighted With Double Signing
Friday, 4th Jan 2013 13:54

Manager Mick McCarthy says he’s delighted to have added strike pair David McGoldrick and Aaron Mclean to his squad. The duo have joined on loan until the end of the season but with McGoldrick certainly viewed as a signing for the longer term.

McCarthy told the club site: “David dropped down a level to play for Coventry on loan over the first half of the season and did really well.

“He was the leading scorer in League One with 16 goals [17 in all competitions], so we are signing a player at the top of his form.

“He’s a good player who we have been watching and it’s a deal that we are looking to lead to a permanent one.”

The 25-year-old is out of contract at Nottingham Forest this summer, while Mclean has another year remaining on his Hull deal after this season.

The Blues boss says the 29-year-old is someone he has been after for some while: “Aaron is also a good addition to the squad. I tried to sign him for Wolves a long time ago so I know about his qualities.

“He will bring pace, power and athleticism to the side and I’m delighted that we have managed to get both of them.”

Town completed the paperwork for both deals close to the noon deadline for the FA Cup trip to Aston Villa and they are waiting to hear confirmation whether clearance has been granted for the pair to feature tomorrow.

Cantona 11- I have never been one blaming clegg for deals not done. And it is perfectly fair end indeed inevitable that people will compare the ease with which big mick is getting players in compared with jewell. The latter has not long left but I am not denying jewell is a decent bloke. But he was not a good manager for us and I am entitled to that view.

Just bear in mind that Chopra will be spending some time in the next 2 months defending himself on charges relating to race fixing so his mind will be elsewhere. Therefore signing strikers is a fine idea. Wordsworth or Dorrans next?

Not bad additions and well done to the club for acting quickly. I actually think (hope) Chopra is on his way and DJ might still be an option as doesn't McLean play wide too? Now let's get that creative midfield talent in plus Judge and Richie and we could be going somewhere...

For those moaning that these are just another two loan players, can you explain how it benefits the club to sign someone for a fee when they will be a free agent at the end of the season. Surely its more sensible to get that player (McGoldrick) on loan to the end of the season and then, if it suits us, get him on a free...

Great work Mick and yes, I'm gona say it - well done Clegg.

Staggered that most people on here are happy with this :
1) We don't want or need any more loan players ;
2) McGoldrick has been loaned here there and everywhere, throughout his career : hardly the sign of a decent player, more one that flatters to deceive (and we've already got a dozen or so of them).
A bad day at the club.

Have to be realistic in our position on how attractive moving to us is going to be in January but this does provide competition from more mobile players in important striking positions and would suggest DJ's time with us is up, but what a great job he did.

Watched McLean a few times in my home town of PBoro alongside Mackail-Smith and whilst not as good as Craig, he was a decent player and surprisingly good in the air with great hang

Its official I hate MM for god sake I take the afternoon off work go to the pub for a couple of hours then come back on twtd and deals are done come on Mick this is not the Ipswich way it has to talke at least a week to do a deal. Seariously though well done Mick I am sure that phil hates the very little rumour just sign mentality but YES we have a proper manager no leaks COYB cant wait for the 2014.2015 season in the prem!!!!!!

He likes his Mc's does our Mick.
Well done on trying to replace the goals lost by DJ's departure, and with so little fanfare or need to tell every reporter in the country.

Like Daleyitfc I have been critical about the number of loan/short term deal players we have been signing over the last couple of years, not least because they block the way for young Ipswich players. However, we have to be realistic. Given our league position and the time of year other clubs are not going to sell us decent players at sensible prices and decent players would probably not want to commit to a club in a relegation scrap. Let us get up the league, hopefully mid to upper table, and then the real work can be done over the summer.

Oh another thing thought ITFC had agreed terms with DJ now suddenly sign 2 strikers make of that as you will McCarthy OUT

Offering terms on a permanent contract is one thing, being allowed to move by 'Arry/QPR is another bluey. Haven't seen any news yet to say he won't return at some point either so not sure why you're going off on one.

Two good signings, loaned till end of season with view to perment signing in the summer.
Scotland off to Preston and/or maybe Chopra off to China or Malaysia, big signing on fee to pay back his bookies and us?
Still hope we can get DJ back but Mick is not going to wait for Harry to make up his mind at the end of the transfer window.

Gotta say. I've been blown away at the swift acquisitions. I cannot complain about any of them. This feels good let alone the "right way" to be building for an assault 2013/2014. My new found religion is MMTC.

JonWatson75, David Johnson (Burley era) had pace to burn, who were you watching? Agree Scotland is slow.

Anyway, top marks MM no beating around the bush, two strikers straight in with pace & power - something we have lacked for the past 8 seasons, since Benty left.

I reckon Scotland will be on his way, may as well get rid now & get him off the wage bill as he is gone in the summer anyway. If we still get Campbell then we will have decent competition & options. Onwards & upwards.

COYB!!
