Reo-Coker Talks Set to Begin
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 08:52

TWTD understands that Town are set to begin talks with midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker regarding an extension to his Blues contract later this week. The 28-year-old’s short-term deal is up after Saturday’s game at Cardiff.

Last week, manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that he was keen to keep the former Aston Villa, Bolton, West Ham and Wimbledon man at Portman Road: “I want him to stay but that’s down to him. We’ll speak to his agent. Nigel knows I want him to stay and hopefully he will.”

Reo-Coker has made nine starts and two sub appearances since joining the Blues in October.

Meanwhile, Blues legend Paul Mariner has been sacked from his job as head coach of MLS side Toronto FC. QPR's New Zealand international defender Ryan Nelsen is his replacement.

I thought we were trying to get rid of the lackers who show up for the pay cheque? NRC has done nothing of note in his loan spell.

If he has been showing that form to gain a contract, let's hope he doesn't get any worse once he has the comfort of a longer contract!

A match fit NRC in the right blend of squad would be solid enough. I'm with Mick on this. I think it hinges on getting the right blend of players.

An odd decision. NRC has been extremely poor since his arrival, albeit looked completely unfit for the first few weeks / month or so. Perhaps his fitness is improving and that's what MM has seen in recent weeks? That's all I can think of to justify an extension!

NRC must be laughing all the way to the bank - been an absolute liability. Much rather see Hyam replace him and spend the money elsewhere improving the squad. First poor judgement by MM - he must be the only one who wants him!

Noooooooooooooooo this must not happen could cost us big time relegation on the cards if he stays and plays it is like playing with only 10 men when he is on the pitch

A world beater and a powerhouse when match fit? Got to trust Mick on this one. I just can't see him and N'Daw playing together working out long term, two defensive midfielders?

Agree with all the other comments here. He has done absolutely nothing since he's been here, other than to keep Hyam out of the team, who is a better option for many reasons (desire, age, local links, the fact he's actually our player and not just someone using us to get a better club).

Very unimpressed with the idea of signing him. I agree that's we need a stronger squad, but surely there are younger, cheaper options than this. Unless he really is going to improve now he's fitter, but that's a risk.

I love how everybody on this site thinks they know better than the manager. You really should stop writing about it on the internet and set up your own club. You will be leading teams to the premier league and world cup before you know it.

No thanks. Out of the nine games he has started we have won 2 drew 2 and lost 5. That my friends is a very good reason to get rid.

NOOOOOOOO!!! Please god dont let this happen. I trust in Mick and I think hes great but NRC has offered absolutely NOTHING!! Cant tackle, cant hold onto the ball, cant win headers, only passes sideways and offers no creativity whatsoever. I would rather see Hyam settled in with Ndaw (who compliment each other) or Crason getting a run or pushing Edwards into midfield so the young lads can get a good run. The money he will want will me a joke as well.
Wiggymcbigalow - its not that we dont trust mick and know better but please enlighten me as to what he sees that we cant every match NRC plays? I would love to have his faith but it seems to be totally unfounded - he must be amazing in the dressing room or trianing pitch cos hes doing nothing in matches. Fact.

Every time he plays we have no creativity. Money would be better spent elsewhere.

NRC has been very disappointing but Mick is no fool, so I have to trust in his judgement on this one!

Stats show that when NRC is in the team we struggle to get the right result. Has not looked match fit or interested imo since he first arrived.Lets just hope ME doesn't loosen the purse strings to make him a permanent member of the squad as I only consider him to be a squad player and not a first 11 regular.

NCR will only be providing midfield cover for N'Daw & Drury/Martin. He has been here a few months, knows the manager & players. Drury & Hyam have picked up some minor injuries recently and if we get any serious long term injuries we will really be in trouble.
With games coming thick and fast its no harm in having NCR around for back up.

U never know, expectations for NCR are low so he may surprise a few people yet!

Ive only seen bits and pieces of NRC since hes been with us but what i have seen hasnt taken my breath away. I for one would rather we try and get N'Daw signed permanently and take the small increase on wages there then splash out on NRC.

However i always try to balance my argument so i would say that there must be something about NRC that we havent seen yet. He was playing regularly in the prem up until recently and hes not old or anything in the grand scheme of things. Would it be fair to keep him until the summer to see if he can find some form? Or do we then risk him finding form and him buggering off somewhere else? Its a tough one.

I trust Mick to do the right thing though, so ill back hes end decision.

Mick sees him everyday in training. We don't know MM and TC's long term plans, if he wants NRC then lets support the player!

IN MICK WE TRUST
