Brighton Defender Linked
Tuesday, 8th Jan 2013 23:24

Town are keeping tabs on Brighton and Hove Albion centre-half Lewis Dunk, according to a tabloid report. Dunk is also linked with Bristol City with reports over the weekend claiming the Robins had had an approach rebuffed by the Seagulls.

The 21-year-old, who was also recently mentioned in connection with Blackburn, came through the ranks at his hometown club, making his Albion debut in May 2010.

Since then the £1 million-rated 6ft 3in tall right-sided central defender — who once received a call into an England U21 squad — has made 49 starts and four sub appearances, but is yet to score. a goal This season, however, he has played only eight times. His contract is up at the end of the season.

Dunk is one of four current and former Brighton players due in court later this month.

My uncle lives in Brighton and I visit fairly regularly to take in a game at Brighton with him, this lad is class and a real prospect for the future, if we got him then I would be over the moon and think that in the short term him and Chambers/Smith would be very good and could develop into exceptional should Smith improve or McCarthy bring in another CB.

If he's anything like his father, Mark, then sign him now. Legendary Sussex non-league player. As inspirational captain of Horsham I witnessed him pick up an opposing Chertsey player, through him into the dugout and immediately walk to the dressing room, not bothering to wait for the red card...

He was a legend....most of my football idols are of course Town players but Mark Dunk is up there.

Lewis would be excellent.

Wasn't he linked with Premier League big clubs last year? His stock has clearly fallen! Still, that might be our gain.

I think I was reading last year that Liverpool and other prem teams were sniffing around for £4-5 million

Hope the rumours are true, good young centre half, don't think we'd be held ransom with him being out of contract in the summer too. Glad we're looking at defenders at last!

Sounds good but why has he only played 8 times this season? And the impending court case. All things coincided maybe not the player he could have been.

Last season he was heavily linked to the prem and especially arsenal. Not sure why he has only made 8 appearances this year but might be because he hadn't signed a new contract. He is a good prospect and would make an excellent signing if true.

We need more players with amusing names that Phil can amuse himself with numerous puns. For that reason, and that reason alone i hope we get him in.

Not the type of person for Ipswich Town

I just hope people don't slam Dunk before they've seen him play ;) Couldn't resist that one. I've heard alot of good things about him. Could envisage Dunk and Smith forming an excellent centre back pairing for the future for ITFC. With Hewitt and Cresswell either side of them and we have so much potential in our back line. Contrast the youthful complexion of our current squad with just a year ago.

If Jewell had been linked with him no doubt Phil's headline would have been something like "PJ getting ready to rumble for Dunk(an)"

:)

My Brighton mate says he is quality player but hasnt been in the team much this year. Apparently linked with Chelsea last season. He points out he is a bit slow though.

Just been reading the comments about this on "Seagulls Chat" forum. Ranging from good young player, great prospect, makes the odd mistake. It makes him sound like Tommy Smith !!!

Sounds like the sort of measured risk that could work out very well. MM give him a go, let's see how the cookie crumbles.
