Forest Keeper Camp Linked
Wednesday, 9th Jan 2013 18:15

Town are reportedly amongst a number of clubs interested in Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who is understood to have been told he can move on from the City Ground on a free transfer during January. Reading and Hull City are also said to be eyeing the 28-year-old Northern Ireland international.

Camp, whose Forest contract was due to end in June, started his career with his hometown club Derby County, spending time on loan with Burton Albion, QPR (twice) and Norwich City while a Ram.

He moved to Loftus Road on a permanent basis in 2007 and two years later he joined Forest, initially on loan.

Having played for the England U21s five times, Camp switched allegiance to Northern Ireland, for whom he qualifies via his grandfather, and has now won nine full caps.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is likely to be looking at alternative keepers with loanee Stephen Henderson due to return to West Ham after the weekend.

Henderson has said he’d like to stay at Portman Road but Hammers boss Sam Allardyce won’t agree a further loan without a 24-hour recall clause, something McCarthy is not keen on.

West Ham are unlikely to allow the Irishman, who they signed from Portsmouth in the summer, to move on a permanent basis.

Earlier in the week, the Blues were linked with a move for Blackpool keeper Matt Gilks, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, we understand that Town made an enquiry to Reading regarding striker Noel Hunt last week. However, having added three frontmen to the squad in the last few days, the Blues appear unlikely to pursue their interest.

Hunt’s brother Stephen is also understood to be on Town boss Mick McCarthy’s radar, having been signed by the Blues manager during his time at Molineux. The winger is currently out injured having undergone hip surgery in October but is due back in training towards the end of this month.

Henderson is OK , Loach is OK, Camp is OK even ALB was OK when he played. I'm sure West Ham are happy for us to keep Henderson match fit and pay his wages but 24 hrs notice! Maybe we should turn the academy into a Travel Lodge for loanees as MM culls Jewells average signings to bring in more average signings.

We definitely need a new goalkeeper as I am sure now, that Henderson will go back to West Ham. Camp does seems to excel against us although he did make some errors of judgement at Portman Road this season. He does come for crosses unlike Mr Loach who did play well at Villa Park but how many crosses did he have to take - none that I can recall. I like Gilks as well but either way Mick will sort it I'm sure.

Every time I've seen him he's been very average. I'd rather look elsewhere.
