Nouble Delighted to Be Working for Mick and Terry
Friday, 11th Jan 2013 06:03

New recruit Frank Nouble cannot conceal his delight at teaming up with Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor at Ipswich.

The 21-year-old striker arrived from Wolves for an undisclosed fee and has signed an 18-month contract at Portman Road.

Nouble, who revealed that McCarthy was close to signing him previously, said: “It wasn’t really a surprise when I heard Ipswich wanted me but it all happened very quickly.

“The interest from a manager is enough for any player. When he likes you and wants you to join his club you are going to be excited about it. As soon as I heard about Ipswich’s interest I just wanted to speak to Mick and get it sorted. It wasn’t a tough call and I was delighted when it all worked out.”

Lewisham-born Nouble launched his career as a youngster at Chelsea and had played in their reserve side before he rejected a professional deal to move across London to West Ham, where he made his Premiership debut and also won England U17 and U19 honours.

He added: “I didn’t leave Chelsea because I was a bad player. I left because I wanted to go to West Ham so I could play games. When I was at West Ham there was a chance that I could have gone to Wolves but it didn’t happen.

“Mick was at Wolves then and when a manager wants you later on it can only be a good thing because he knows what you can do. It’s good to feel wanted here.”

my problem with clegg is that he i not a football man.so many people are football fans and love the club that i dont think we needed to bring in somebody from outside the footballing fraternity to the club.its not his fault he took a job on offer andhas done his best.i just dont think he is the sort of boke who would want to talk football for pleasure

I simply don't see, and never have seen, Clegg as a factor in signing players at all, beyond the fact that he has instructions about what he is allowed to sign on behalf of the club. In this way he is just an extension of Marcus Evans, albeit that i would hope he also advises ME on matter such as FFP.
Is that wrong?
What could MM possibly have said to change Clegg's role?
It would seem far more likely to me that MM is operating within the financial framework provided by the club and that players are happy to sign for him and us because they believe in a solid future with opportunities to grow, either in career or experience terms. None of that has much to do with dear old Cleggy as far as i can see.
But perhaps someone can explain better to me how these things are done?
People don't get to and hold the positions that Clegg has held in the organisations he has held them without having some talent and skill. So we didn't like the timing of a news release about turnstiles, or cleaning the stand. These things need doing, win lose or draw. Visit some older less well kept stadia and you'll see why we should be proud that we care.
Anyway- i'll be happy to read anything offered by people with knowledge of how a football club works if i'm way off beam, but i suspect that Clegg is a fairly safe pair of hands. When FFP plays out in a season or two, i suspect we'll actually owe him a bit more kudos. And i really don't care if he's a footballing man. I can see many more advantages to him not liking football at all in terms of how it may affect his judgement!

That's more like it - tend to agree with ITFCOYB more than petermorris. Whatever you think ME is no fool.
