Camp Continues to Be Linked
Monday, 14th Jan 2013 09:30

Town continue to be linked with exiting Nottingham Forest keeper Lee Camp, who was first mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues last week. The 28-year-old has been told he can leave the City Ground in January having failed to agree a new deal with his current terms up in the summer.

According to a number of this morning’s national newspapers, the Blues now lead the chase for the Northern Ireland international with Reading and Hull City also previously having been linked.

Manager Alex McLeish said last week: “I told Lee that he could speak to his agent about finding another club.

"It was face-to-face. I told him that I had to make changes and that I knew there had been some frustration between him and the club over a period of time.

"I said that I wanted to bring a goalkeeper in and that I thought it wouldn't be right for a man of his stature to be sitting on the bench as number two.”

Yesterday, Blues keeper Scott Loach, who has regained his place in the Town side in the last couple of games, reacted to speculation that Camp might be on his way to Portman Road by tweeting “Absolutely gutting if true”.

Later, having removed it, he added: “People taking that gutted tweet seriously? I'm being sarcastic. I’ve just played two good games and loved it. No need to overreact.”

It would be no surprise if the Blues moved for another keeper with Stephen Henderson having gone back to West Ham at the end of his loan with an ankle injury which is expected to sideline him for a fortnight.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has said he'd be interested in Henderson returning but has concerns about the 24-hour recall clause the Hammers want to include in any deal.

Elsewhere, Michael Chopra’s race-fixing inquiry begins today. The Blues striker released a statement last week saying he would not be appearing at the hearing into charges made against him and a number of other people, including his agent Yogesh Joshee and former Newcastle team-mate James Coppinger, in October. According to reports, it’s currently unclear whether the police will take an interest in the matter.

spoken to a few forest fans and they say he's one of the best keepers they've had.. and cannot believe they are letting him go.. can only say would be our gain altho I hope Loachy keeps his place in goal.. would provide good competition tho i suppose!

No thanks! I'm no Loach fan , but Camp is no better than Loach. Both are average GK. If we r going to replace Loach, at least make it a better keeper!

Happy to see another keeper come in as ALB has rightly been third choice since Merlin came in. Camp is top quality at this level and we'll struggle to do better, but whoever came in I would want them to have to earn the shirt. Loach has been a model pro since he has been here and he deserves his place.

Great keeper, think people simply want loach because of the romance of him being a blue, hes a decent keeper but camp is a step above - would help Scott progress i think. COYB.

Emm not a fan. Top two keepers in this league? Lets define Northern ireland International-----when it suits him. Maik Taylor, 42,played the last NI international. Camp only declared his hand for NI a couple yeras ago.

Scott Loach deserves a serious run in goal. He has the pedigree and now with a solid defensive line should be far better protected.

He's always been pretty solid every time i've seen him and he's very loud on the pitch so he could command the defence a lot better. I'd still love Loach to end up being our number 1 purely because he's one of us!

Seems strange Forest are quite keen on getting rid... especially if he's a really good goalie, are wages the problem??? There is an article on BBC about it http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20973585. McLeish seems quite happy to let the other keeper on the books play from now on until they get a replacement. Either McLeish doesn't rate him, or they won't cough up for his wages. From what I've seen, he's a good goalie, right age, could be a good addition. On the BBC article, Rob Green is mentioned as his replacement??? (Maybe wages aren't the concern). Interesting to see how this one pans out...

Lee Camp is quality. Very steady and can make the occasional brilliant save. Sulks a bit when times are bad, or when he loses his spot (see his refusal to turn up in the last few Norn Iron camps - but @nthstd Maik Taylor did not play the last match, or last five or so matches - Roy Carroll is back). I'm guessing he turned down a contract offer, and was told to pack up. No need to keep an unhappy player for the rest of the season. McLeish is making an example of him.

Think this is going to stumble on the wages side, according to skysports this is why Notts forest have said he can go obviously asking too much.

I hate The Scum as much as anyone, but I never have understood this guff about ‘if you had anything to do with ‘em you're scum too…'

This attitude means turning your back on several Ipswich greats — Bryan Hamilton, Trevor Whymark, Clive Woods, Simon Milton (trial), Beattie (scouting)… Joe Royal … the list goes on….

Camp? - yes please.
