Campbell Set to Leave QPR
Wednesday, 16th Jan 2013 16:19

Former Blues loan striker DJ Campbell has been given the go-ahead to leave QPR in the next 48 hours by manager Harry Redknapp, according to reports. Blues boss Mick McCarthy has repeatedly said that he is still chasing the 31-year-old, despite adding three strikers to his squad during this transfer window, however, Crystal Palace have emerged as the favourites for his signature.

Palace are managed by Campbell’s former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, who tried to take the frontman back to Bloomfield Road in October prior to his three-month spell with Town.

Redknapp, who today completed the signing of Marseille striker Loic Remy, recently said that “seven or eight” Championship sides had made enquiries regarding Campbell, who scored 10 goals in 17 games for the Blues.

looked really up for it when with us so dont think he will drop off as soon as he signs.
Trouble is his family are londoners so palace are probvably favs plus he knows their manager. But did he not go back to blackpool only because they wouldnt/couldnt pay his wages/part wages

I now doubt very much that DJ will be coming back to Town. But no matter , he's not exactly "one for the future" and effectiveness in his general play for us was a tad limited Id suggest .

Lets just wait & see. Reckon MM will pull this one out of the bag.

retro. agree totally with you on this one. while id be happy enough if he was to sign, i also wouldnt exactly be gutted if he doesnt. think we have plenty of strikers at club right now and feel other areas of the team should be the prority. plus as others have said location could very likely be a factor in where he ends up.

Unfortunately I can't see him choosing us over Olly & Palace. I hope I'm wrong though.

Yes he did well for us and we would welcome him back but not the end off the world, for me anyway,if he dont sign.

I would like to see him return. We need to think next season and at 31 he still has a couple of years left in him. Okay, we have a few strikers on the book, but McClean and Murphy are loans, who are likely to return to parent clubs in the Summer, whilst Scotland and Murray will move on. So, that leaves the two new signings and Chopra - who I suspect will be moved on at some stage. Therefore, signing another quality striker would be a good move in my opinion.

The local rag has us as leading the race.

If we do get him, I hope it will be more successful than our last high profile loan to permanent signing!

Lots of positive reasons to think that we are first choice. He had a great time here, scored plenty of goals, was loved by the fans, liked by his team mates and really inspired by the manager.

DJ although not past it at 31, will know this is his last (likely) big move so this and clearly playing in the PL again soon will be factors. He knows though that Big Mick has the nouse and experience to do just that at Town.

Those that rekon he has limited future are wide of the mark - point made earlier comparing him to Keven Phillips certainly rings true with me.

Come on DJ, Savills estate agents are expecting you!

Big wages, probably wants a 3 year contract & he's already 31 yrs old. Thanks DJ, you were great, and sure you'd continue to do a good job for a couple of seasons, but lets save the wages & use them on a creative midfield player.

It would be great if he signs for us but not that bad if he doesn't. Isn't it a nice situation to have plan B and options?

He is not a 20 a season player his best was 13 for Blackpool and remember five of his ten goals were pens he was good for us but we don't need him now

For Ipswich:
Been here previously, enjoyed himself, scored goals, knows he will be a valuable first team player, knows the fans loved him, joining a resurgent team,

For Palace:
Already played previously with the manager and has played well under him, joining a team who will create alot of chances, possible chance of playing Premier League football next season and so can remind people that he can still play well in the Premier League, closer to family I believe which could be a factor.

Not an easy decision for DJ but we should be well in with a shout

I can't see him joining him and holloway have a great relationship, he wil go to palace, not too dissapointed as i knew we were unlikely to get him. Best of luck DJ and thanks for everything.

..... all about who will offer him the best contract - and really you can't blame him as it will probably be his last.

Now down to who wants him most I guess - I think he's on his way to Palace - unfortunately.

"TractorCam:"- I don't think "Kesgraveblue" is on MM's list of potential signings!

Seriously though, we have no idea, as mere fans, as to the precise details of this, or any future potential signing. The "devil is in the detail" is indeed apt. Whatever contract details are agreed in private will determine our squad for the remainder of this season.

However, most of us hope that DJ will sign........

If he comes back great, proven at this level. If he doesn't we're building a decent young team with potential. Thanks a lot for pulling us out of the mire D.J and all the best wherever you end up :)

I am not sure Campbell and McGoldrick would play well together as they may be too similar, and we're usually better with a target man up front alongside a smaller player. While it'd be great to sign our top goal scorer, I have to agree with the other comments about spending the money on other parts of the pitch. It depends how much Campbell wants really, if it's affordable it may be worth doing. I expect he'll go to Palace.

Sign him up, sell Chopra and Scotland, and then we have 5 strikers for 2 places, it will make for decent competition and Mick wil always have options.

He'll prob go where the money is..as does every player these days...then again maybe he preffered playing for Mick than he will Holloway?

Hope we can do the deal.

thebeat - 'sell' Chopra and Scotland ?? - now that's an interesting one.

Can see someone wanting Scotland short term but only as a freeby - can't see many queuing up for Chopra and his baggage tho' - I think he has to make it here, or nowhere to be honest.
But I'm not holding my breath on that one happening - would be great to be proved wrong tho'.

Agree in with a shout, but on balance - just favour developing the next generation for our assault on the top 6 in 2013-14 season. Agree with Special - Mpses at Orient is an exciting prospect. Was also there last night v Hull and last week v Yeovil. I thought he was more impressive last night.
