Dundee Keen to Take Scotland Back to Scotland
Tuesday, 22nd Jan 2013 10:53

Dundee manager Barry Smith is reported to be keen to take Jason Scotland back north of the border, where he previously played for the Dark Blues’ local rivals Dundee United and St Johnstone.

The 33-year-old frontman’s Town contract was settled over the weekend with Doncaster and Wolves believed to be leading the chase for his signature. Preston, Brighton and Barnsley are also understood to have been monitoring his situation.

Scotland himself says he enjoyed his time with the Blues: “It’s been a privilege and an honour to play for Ipswich Town and I wish everyone associated with the club all the best.”

Elsewhere, the Blues and Burnley are again being linked with Tranmere left-back Zoumana Bakayogo, who was previously mentioned in connection with both clubs and others earlier in the month.

All the best Jason , your effort in a town shirt obvious (apart from Derby at home) when you came on as a sub with Chopra and you both looked very low.

Do they still have square goal posts in Scotland? If they do, be careful Jason - they really hurt.

The fans know Jason always worked hard and did his best, a good honest pro, so he will be remembered positively at Ipswich. 19 goals in 87 league games isn't bad considering he was usually stuck up front on his own in front of a midfield which created very little over his time here.

It's a shame we didn't have Scotland from a younger age, and I am glad McCarthy is getting that policy right now. Swansea paid £25K for Scotland and he scored 45 goals for them in 90 league games, that's the sort of gem we need to find now.

Totally agree with 1RWR, I liked having him around and frankly could have done with him Saturday. McLean and McGoaldrought left me underwhelmed

Great performance from Jason away at Southampton last season won us a well-deserved point. Never going to be a PR legend but a good hardworking pro at the twilight of his career , who never stopped trying, unlike some......
Will always remember his old shirt displayed over the seats in the Cobbold Stand Upper after he buckled down and lost some weight pre -season !!!

Scotland probably our best forward. He'd be in my team and certainly looked sharper than Chopra when they came on as subs recently. Certainly would have kept him on until end of season, and possibly new 1 yr contract depending on fitness etc. The only time he didn't look good, was when played up front on his own by Keane then Jewell. Like the comment above, I'm also underwhelmed by the new strikers so far.

Mark - totoally agree about needing to find a nugget like Scotland. We haven't managed this for a while.

Strider - also agree about McGoldrick and McLean. Although it might be the correct decision long-term to not sign DJ Campbell. In my opinion he was the best poacher we have had since Bent. Without a creative midfield influence, looking at hte Barnsley performance we will struggle unless Nouble, McLean, Chopra or McGoldrick step up.

Good luck Jason, all the very best. Lets not be too hasty in judging the Mc's on one home performance, nobody played exceptionally well and they did the best they could between them all things considered, my concern is where the goals will be scored from midfield, Hyam and N'Daw are both very good players but they don't have a goal in them I feel. We need a Mason, Holland, Miller type midfielder, all good for 10+ a season. We've often had them. Even Keith Andrews fitted into that category. I trust we will get one in under Mick n Terry and hopefully until then the goals will come from the rotation of strikers available. As for this season I think we will be safe and hopefully the likes of Eddie, Frank and Aaron will be able to grow into the club and settle for a better assault at it next season. Up the Town!!

Good luck Jase, I feel Jase would have still had something to offer for us but the problem is we are not suited to his game. At Swansea he was the central point of the attack and due to their fluidity they played the ball into his body with his back to goal, thats how he likes it and players around him can feed of him. He isn't the tallest and Mick obviously likes his big men up front and so I dont think the service would have suited Jase and as he isn't the quickest it would be difficult for him to get into games.

Surprised nobody mentioned on here about Keiron Dyer training with Town(EADT 22Jan),presume it is true but Phil often ahead of local papers.I know he is a sicknote and disappointed whilst here on loan(not Phil) but pay as you play?
Am surprised also that didn't hold on to JS until the end of the window if several clubs were interested in him, could then have settled contract and perhaps saved a few pennies!
Must get in a couple more midfielders as dare I say it Mick doesnt seem able/willing to match up oppositions midfield sometimes so that we are overwhelmed in that department like on Saturday

How Nathan Ellington has lasted longer than Scotland and Delaney is beyond belief! All i can think of is that they are on a hell of a lot more money than Ellington. Wish Jason all the best, lovely guy and was a good servant!

Barry Smith - sign him up - you will have signed a good professional player, who will do you proud.

It's a real shame he left under a somewhat cloud. Always impressed me when he played, but as soon as mcgoldrick and McLean arrived he had no chance in getting into the first team. Good luck.

ill be sorry to see him go, he has been an honest player and a true team man .Could not describe him as a prolific goal scorer but he has put in good shifts and turned games around, always felt optimistic of him scoring .Good luck to him where ever he go's.

I'm sorry to see Jason go as I've said before, but what concerns me is that we have less than ten days of the window open and we still need some new midfielders and cover at right back; and possibly goalkeeper cover.

It's already been said by many others, a true Gent. Wifey and I were lucky enough to be able to speak with him in the car park at the ground when he first played for us. Really nice person who spent a good 5 minutes talking with us and was very polite unlike many of the prima-donnas that strut about on the field these days. Very best wishes Jason old boy.
