Hull Could Recall Mclean
Sunday, 27th Jan 2013 01:59

Hull City boss Steve Bruce says he could recall striker Aaron Mclean from his loan spell with Town. The 29-year-old joined the Blues on loan earlier in the month and has made two starts and two sub appearances without scoring.

Bruce also has former Blues loanee striker DJ Campbell - who played for QPR in their 4-2 FA Cup defeat to the MK Dons on Saturday - in his sights but says he may look to bring Mclean back to the KC Stadium.

“It might be that we recall Aaron Mclean, we’ve got to look at that one,” he told the BBC. “We’ve put him out there to get games but today, for example, I’m looking to make a change and we’re a little bit short.”

Mclean was due to stay with the Blues until the end of the season but, depending on the agreement made between the clubs, the Tigers could recall him after 28 days.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that he is looking to add his former Town team-mate Kieron Dyer to his squad: "I've had some conversations with Kieron.

"If Kieron was fit and playing for us then he would be a huge asset for our club. I've watched some footage of him playing against Gareth Bale for QPR and he did well.

"He's scored in the FA Cup against West Brom and he's been available, fit and playing.

"I'll have to see if something can be done and we might be close to that. If Kieron plays football for us and helps win football matches then I think he would be an asset."

According to reports Dyer, who has trained with Town since his release by QPR earlier in January, would be on a £10,000-a-game pay-as-you-play deal. Crystal Palace and Fulham are also understood to have shown interest. Middlesbrough are at Portman Road on Saturday.

Elsewhere, we understand that Jason Scotland, whose Blues contract was settled last weekend, is set to sign for Notts County in the next few days, having trained with the League One club this week.

To be fair to Bruce (and I don't believe that I am going to be fair to him) if he does recall Mclean all he will be doing is using the terms of the loan agreement to his advantage.

I agree with RYITFC - its the creativity of the midfield which is the problem. We need a couple wide players plus an attacking central midfielder to create the changes for the strikers to put away.

Dyer at £10k per game? Am I alone in thinking that could be a decent gamble?

Not that any Championship club wants a creative midfielder, who can play in the centre or on the wing, with a track record and links to thier club, of course.......

It's getting a wearing to be so reliant of the whim of other clubs with all these loan players. When will we get our own team? I will be disappointed if we don't make a permanent signing who plays in our starting 11 in the January transfer window. I thought we had lists of targets after bringing those new scouts in? I know the summer is a better time to trade, but we need quality now to keep us up.

Very bad day at the office yesterday, but not wholly unexpected. I rather felt we were bound to have a downturn. After all, MM has told us he's not a magician. It will still be a very tight thing avoiding relegation this year, but in MM I think we've got our best chance of doing so. On the subject of Kieron Dyer: £10, 000 a game? That's half a year's salary as far as I'm concerned. Much as I like the guy, if we ever needed proof that football has gone mad, then here you have it. Still hoping for a positive end to the season, which would be defined as 1) ITFC do in fact avoid the drop, and 2) Our feathered friends continue their impressive form of late and come down to join us. COYB.

Agreed Mark. Can any other club in this division have so few players contracted to the club beyond the end of this season? We have 12 (7 to 2014 and 5 to 2015). The continued reliaince on loanees must end and it is up to Evans and Clegg to make this happen.

As for Kieron Dyer, on £10.000 a week thats still far to much for a Injury Prone Player like him, even if is on a Play as you Play Deal....He's like my old S Reg Mondeo completely unreliable ( Other Words did come in to my mind by I can't use them on here )

On the Striker thing, I think its time to Play Chropa again I know he's had his problems ete etc but he's a proven goal scorer and a run in the team would do him a world of good.

Upfront is the one area we have cover so wouldn't be suicidal if McLean is recalled. It may give us more chance to get a much needed creative winger or two. Whilst loans are far from ideal, with MM confirming that buying players permanently in January window is difficult due to clubs wanting replacements first, loans increasingly seem the only option. Failure to strengthen this week could spell relegation in my opinion

McLean has not impressed me with what little we have seen of him but to be fair to the guy he has had no service. I do however think he is surplus to requirements with Nouble, Chopra, Murphy and McGoldrick to pick from. This is a crucial week for the Club and just hope and pray Evans Clegg and McCarthy came pull some rabbits out of the hat as we are back in trouble big time. Desperately need pace on the flanks and a creative midfielder who can score goals and a goalkeeper. Not going to be easy to find let alone get the deals done preferably permanent deals.

If we signed a contract saying he could return after 28 days then more fool the person that agreed to that! I'm sure we would recall any of our players if required under the circumstances.

10k per game for Dyer!? Sounds like he'll be a bench warmer to me, surely boro won't WANT to play him unless they have to?

Clegg and Evans need to realise that loans are not and never will be the answer. We need to build a squad for the longer term. But if micks hands are tied, all we can do is hope we have enough to get us out of this terrible situation. Norwich and others however have proved what having too many loans can do .....

On the subject of DJ Campbell The Sunday Telegraph today has a match report of the QPR v MK Dons game yesterday which ended 4 - 2 to the Dons. In it their reporter writes, "With his other five forwards in varying states of disrepair, Rednapp started Jay Boothroyd and DJ Campbell up front. Both were thoroughly ineffective; cardboard cut-outs of more talented strikers. QPR may as well have been playing with nine men."

If a recall was part of the deal, what has Bruce down wrong?

Send the trendiest man in the ipswich squad back to the cosmopolitan utopia that is Hull! He won't miss our town and we certainly won't miss him

He's done ok, not exactly the inpact Campbell did obviously but if Hull recall him it opens up opportunities for Chopra.

Not sure Mclean can score you 15-20 goals at this level.
