Blues Target Arsenal Midfielder
Monday, 28th Jan 2013 08:57

Town boss Mick McCarthy is understood to be keen to add 20-year-old Arsenal midfielder Thomas Eisfeld to his squad on loan. The Gunners are keen to send the German out on loan to gain first team experience with other Championship clubs also likely to be interested.

Finsterwalde-born Eisfeld played youth football with SV Quitt Ankum and VfL Osnabrück before joining Borussia Dortmund’s academy in 2005.

Having made 12 senior appearances, scoring six goals, he moved on to Arsenal in January of last year for a fee of £475,000. He made his Gunners debut in their 7-5 Capital One Cup win at Reading in October.

Blues manager McCarthy is keen to add to his midfield before the transfer window closes on Thursday and last week said loans were more likely than permanent additions.

No, no, no, no, no........please no more loans!!
Is it just me or are there others out there that are totally sick and tired of loan players playing under an "Ipswich 11 All Sorts" team??
Short term thinking leads to long term problems and I would rather play the kids than carry on with this start/stop format. Why buy a season ticket when the team changes every week/month?? If they do well then they go back or to rival clubs and if they do badly they go back again!

We would all have a preference to loan signings in normal circumstances but we are 21st and in a relegation battle, for me if we can aauire a couple more loans that will help us get enough points to survive then I will be happy with that. Things have been messy all season so our objective has to be to stay up, then assess things and I doubt there will nowhere near as many loans next season.

Also, people were saying this when DJ Campbell signed but I bet people weren't complaining when he scored 10 goals in 15 games or whatever it was? If we do stay up we will be viewing those goals as our saviour because no one else has really chipped in.

bluefeast, Lee Martin has the most assists at the club. Yes he's not near the top assister in the Championship, but he's contributing more than anyone else in a blue shirt. He's also excellent defensively. Carlos is much more of a problem of the two wingers. I think his days of being a wide midfielder are over. Yes Martin's finishing is woeful, but he provides goals and gets into scoring positions. Just needs finishing practice.

I take your point and Campbell was a good short term signing but when you look at the bigger picture and the amount of loanees that have come and gone you have to say that this strategy has not worked and will not work.
Let's be honest, throwing in a kid with no league experience, into a new team, in a relegation scrap has very limited chance of success.
We have not built and developed players for many years and are now paying the consequences with an alarming downward spiral. I for one am so fed up with the conveyor belt of players coming and going and feel the spirit and performance of the club is under serious threat.

It strikes me as a bit strange that he left Dortmund for Arsenal in the first place. I would have thought he'd be better off at Dortmund, a club that gives young, relatively unknown players a chance, something that Arsenal isn't really known for.

If he's anything like Götze get him in.

You make a good point and I agree, what we are doing now does reflect the lack of structure over the past few years, players coming in every month, some who don't have any real desire and who don't have the clubs interests at heart i.e Reo-Coker. I think we would all agree that things need to change in that respect because it is very difficult to achieve anything long term like that and as you say the fans will soon struggle to connect to a club who cannot hold down players and are constantly borrowing other teams. However I just think you have to look at the situation we're in, Mick took over a team in dire straights in a right mess with regards to confidence, loans ect and it isn't all going to change three months later, managers like MIchael Laudrup, Villas-Boas, Ian Holloway have taken over teams that were on an upward spiral and so much of the foundations are already in place, I think we should let Mick do whatever he has to to keep us in the League and then I would trust him, over the summer, if given the right backing financially, to build a squad he think is worthy of competing for the season ahead and I think even he will be relieved that he can then keep loans at a minimum and thats where he can then attempt to rebuild the club.

We need as a matter of urgency a creative midfielder or two, Van Persie and Rooney would struggle to get goals with our midfield!

An arsenal season ticket holder told me they rate him very highly. Having said that, arsenal fans said the same about jay!
