Wordsworth Move Still On
Monday, 28th Jan 2013 12:17

Midfielder Anthony Wordsworth is still expected to complete his move from Colchester United to the Blues before the transfer window closes on Thursday. TWTD reported that the 24-year-old was set to become a Town player a fortnight ago.

There had seemed to be little progress on the deal in recent days but, according to the Colchester Gazette, the central midfielder, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is now talking personal terms regarding a £100,000 move to Portman Road.

Wordsworth joining the Blues would make a loan move for Arsenal’s Thomas Eisfeld less likely, particularly with Town already having three of the five domestic loanees permitted in a matchday squad and with manager Mick McCarthy having confirmed that he wants to add a right-back and a goalkeeper to his squad. West Ham’s Stephen Henderson may return to fill the latter role.

Elsewhere, Northampton Town have been linked with a loan move for Blues midfielder Josh Carson, who manager Mick McCarthy is keen to get out to play games.

People seem to placing large expectations upon the ability of Wordsworth, many people that I imagine have hardly seen him play. Whilst not a bad player, a number of U fans aren't unhappy to see him leave, and I for one would be surprised if he has enough to his game to transform our midfield issues. At 24 I would also imagine he is about as good as he will be.

The signing that I would have loved to have seen happen was that of Forrester, who was linked a few weeks ago and would have been a superb signing, though would always have done well to sign him above some other interested clubs. He truly is a young and exciting player, with much ahead of him. Unfortunately, given his high profile performance yesterday the likelihood of us being the ones to sign him have diminished even further.

When Phil first blew this story on that Sunday morning I was excited because it seemed imminent and so right. As it drifted away and everything else seemed to go banana shaped as usual I felt rather down, now if this is genuinely back on I shall start getting excited again. I have never seen the guy play but I have a very strong feeling of rightness which, so far, has never let me down.

THREE men have been arrested following an assault involving two people dressed as Oompa-Loompas in Norwich.

Must have been on way to see NUFC play lol, suppose less noticeable than the yellow and green shirts :-)

not a bad signing if its only 100k but considering marcus evans is worth more than £625m i thought we should be signing better quality players cause lets face it our squad is garbage. marcus evans makes the venkys look good!

Anyone else want to see us sign Matt Ritchie aswell. Then we can replace our current below-par widemen.

On another note I was Very impressed by Jose Baxter for Oldham yesterday, a terrific pro, quite clearly in love with the game, a future Matty Holland if ever there was to be another.

We need a creative player. Urgently. More importantly, no more loans.

To all the Martin knockers - this guy works tremendously hard for the team, his work rate is exceptional, and cannot be denied by anyone.

What he doesn't have is the final 15-20% of his game, i.e ability to score from midfield (typical example against Bristol), and his final ball / pass just isn't good enough- but this anomaly should be possible to COACH out of him - SO WHAT ARE THE COACHES DOING WITH HIM ? - OR HAVE THEY GIVEN UP ON HIM ?

A good Coach should be able to Coach a player with good work rate and potential - Martin has BOTH.

And in fairness - his best position, by far, is in the centre - much of his game at Portman Road has not been in his best position.
Something has to change without doubt - but his work rate would be missed for sure.

Wordsworth would be a decent acquisition in my opinion.

..... amazing how some seem to think that every player mentioned is a world beater - and will change everything, and be better than what we have - doesn't always work out that way though, and we ALL should know that by now.

Having said that, as normal for us as a Club - much talk about 'permanent signings' but not a lot of action / success / or result.

Why would he want to come to this joke of a club he should stay with a decent club or sign for a club going places like M K Dons for instance

Can't get too excited by this as he would surely have been snapped by now if he was as good as people make out on here. I have seen him play a few times and seering pace he has not. A decent player at Division 1 level but the Championship is a different kettle of fish. Forrester - now you are talking but his price went up considerably after yesterday and many other Clubs will be sniffing around now as the secret is out.

OK H32 i also played at high level so we will agree to disagree eitherway we all agree we need a lot more creativity and better finishing fromwhole team or we will slide back in it. may be time to put chopra back in if we sign wordsworth .

When he's signed permanantly on the dotted line and is seen with a big cheesey grin holding a blue shirt, thats when I'll believe it!

if forrster is as good as everyone thinks then i cannot understand why we dont stump up and get these deals done. 100 k for wordsworth 400 k for the brentford boy its hardly going to break the bank why are we constantly dithering or what is the delay anyone know because it has become our hallmark answers anyone please
