Young Squad at Brighton
Monday, 28th Jan 2013 14:24

Midfielder Josh Carson is the most senior player included in a young 16-man squad for tonight’s U21 match against Brighton and Hove Albion at Lancing FC’s Culver Road ground (KO 7pm).

The Northern Irish international will want to impress any watching scouts with manager Mick McCarthy keen to send him out on loan, with League Two Northampton believed to be amongst the interested clubs.

Also included in the travelling party are Cormac Burke, Byron Lawrence, Joe Whight and Gunnar Thorsteinsson.

It would be nice to see Lawrence impress. If he can make the (large) step up, he could be just the player we need.

It would be nice if we could get a few more class players from our academy. Don't know if its the coaching or the scouting initially but in the years I've followed Town only Kieron Dyer, Richard Wright, James Scowcroft, Darren Bent and Connor Wickham (maybe) have actually been real assets and gone on to carve out good careers. That is over a scale of about 16 years.
While at Southampton...Bale, Walcott, Chamberlian, Lallana, now Shaw plus others all in the last 5 years.
We should expect better from our academy, we have a huge catchment area and it would be nice to have some home grown talent back in the side.
