Blues Linked With Stearman Loan
Monday, 28th Jan 2013 21:34

Town are reportedly close to landing defender Richard Stearman on loan from Mick McCarthy’s former club Wolves. The Blues have been linked with the 25-year-old since before Christmas but with a £1.8 million price tag understood to have scuppered a permanent deal.

Boss McCarthy is keen to add to his defensive options with Stearman able to play at both centre-half and the right-back role recently vacated by Bradley Orr when he returned to Blackburn.

The former England U21 international has yet to make an appearance for Wolves since Dean Saunders took over as boss at Molineux. Prior to that, he had made 11 starts and four sub appearances.

Stearman, who has 18 months remaining on his contract, was previously linked with the Blues back in the summer of 2011, although then-manager Paul Jewell dismissed the reports.

No better than we already have - very average - i hope MM doesnt start cherry picking from Wolves, they are in the same predicament as us and most of their players are lacking confidence.

Already got Kisnorbo not getting a game. Has McCarthy decided the Chambo/Smith combo isn't good enough?

No better than we already have?! We dont actually have a right back! If you think hes "very average" you havent seen him play that often. On his day he is quite easily be one of the best RB's in the league! Theres a reason they value him so highly

Got to just trust Mick on this one, I feel. Not many people were excited when Orr arrived, but he did great for us. While Mick's wolves (and so far Ipswich) teams lacked a bit of flair, he does seem to know a decent defender. I hope this deal comes off, loan or not. Kisnorbo can go to free up the space

Surely we don't need more defenders. Give Elliott his head, Chambers and Smith fine, Cressie just needs to be reminded of responsibilities. Went to Bristol on Saturday, and the problems are in midfield. Edwards, Martin and N'Daw hopeless. N'Daw just played people back into trouble, was slow, passed sideways and off the pace. Edwards and Martin added nothing. What is need is a creative midfielder. Why pump high balls to players like McGoldrick and McLean - after Murphy went off - when they prefer spinning off defenders and running into channels. Was astonished that MM didn't make more changes. Ref midfield: what was wrong with Luongo? Saw him at Watford with Hyam and looked a great double act. And if we're looking for someone anyone remember Owen Garvan? I have followed club for 40 years and never felt more pessimistic.

We need a second right back though; what happens if Hewitt injures himself? I know Chambers can cover but that then leaves us short in the middle if something happens to Kisnorbo or Smith.

I have the feeling Chambers may play right back at the weekend with Kisnorbo taking Orr's place. If we get Stearman we'll probably slot him straight in.

Fed up of loanee after loanee. This lad is the right age and obviously rated highly by Mick, but what's the point of loaning him if we won't pay the fee to buy him? We've been awful in the transfer market since Magilton was sacked. Terrible, terrible times, but just think where we'd by with Jewell!!

We cant spend big money on perm signings , we dont know what league we are going to be in. We need to patch things up ,and hope we survive.

Take the basic premise that all our players are crap (and they are) and anyone is an improvement. Unfortunately that is the reality of the situation. There is not one player in our side who I would have in a Championship First Eleven. The good news is that we can only get better.

RJ ITFC - I know some Wolves fans who watch him regularly - They tell me that since their relegation he and Johnson are completely shot of confidence. When i went to Wolves v Ipswich in Dec you could sense the anxiety. Totally disagree that he is one of the best in the Championship.
Give Hewitt a game at least he is OUR player, not another loanee.

To be honest we might have centre-halves but if we can't get a RB in then lets at least get someone who can play there as extra cover! I can't understand the price tag on him though, seeing as he isn't playing at the moment, and has only made 11 starts this season.

Not for me but have to trust Mick and he should know. Looks like our replacement right back but hardly a fast raiding full back which we need to get forward as well as defend.

It's all about confidence isn't it? And I'm not talking about the players. A short bad run and look at you lot - heads go down, no belief in the manager, a complete shambles in fact

MM has already said that he doesn't feel hewitt is ready for a regular spot, he has also said that unfortunately loans are now pretty much the only option left so this story is hardly a surprise. We are where we are, who is going to want to join a side in a relegation dog fight? Only those who are out of the equation a a club not doing so well themselves, i.e Stearman.

Agreed as I'm sure MM does we could do with at least 2 more in midfield, one central creative player and at least one winger that is better than what we have.

Funny how all these other clubs supporters such as wolves and Blackburn , rate their players so badly but when return such as. Orr better players. Look, quite a few of us did not rate Delaney and look what happened there. As the previous posters have said its about confidence. And can we as supporters stop getting so downbeat when there is s slight blip.
