Henderson Linked With Blackburn Move
Wednesday, 30th Jan 2013 09:36

Former Town loan keeper Stephen Henderson is being linked with Blackburn Rovers in a swap deal which would see ex-England keeper Paul Robinson move to West Ham in the other direction. Last week, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said that the Irishman could return to Portman Road for a second spell.

Speaking on Friday, McCarthy said: “Hendo’s still an option but it would have to be a 24-hour recall and that just leaves us a bit exposed.

“I’ve spoken to Sam [Allardyce] and we’re both open to that if that is the best we can both do. I don’t mean best [in a disparaging way] because he’s a good keeper, Hendo. If the best we can do is with a 24-hour recall, then we’ll do it.”

Former England man Robinson, who is no longer the first choice at Ewood Park, played under Allardyce at Blackburn and the Hammers boss rates him very highly. Similarly, new Rovers manager Michael Appleton will know Henderson well from their time at Portsmouth together last season.

Elsewhere, Barnsley manager David Flitcroft was delighted with Jason Scotland’s goalscoring debut in the Tykes’ 2-0 home victory over Millwall last night.

Scotland, who joined Barnsley on a deal to the end of the season on Monday having had his Town contract settled earlier in the month, came on as a sub in the 66th minute and netted the Tykes’ second goal a minute later.

Flitcroft said: “Jason's finish was exquisite, but I look at his all-round game, his intelligence, runs and link-up play and he said to me before the game: 'Don't worry about me Flick, I've got an unbelievable touch and my movement is great.'

"His talk is unbelievable and how relaxed is he in his whole approach? But what a lovely fellow.

"I've only known him 24 hours, but there's already an excitement round him and a calmness and I look forward to working with him because he might have found a home here."

We understand the Blues rebuffed loan interest from Barnsley before November’s deadline due to both clubs’ involvement in the Championship’s relegation fight.

Flitcroft was delighted with his side’s performance as a whole, adding: “Jason played his part in what was an incredible team performance.”

Town are now only four points from the relegation zone after Barnsley's victory and Bristol City's home win against Watford.

Meanwhile, ex-loan striker DJ Campbell’s future is still to be resolved with Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway having ruled his side out of the running — “DJ Campbell won't be coming to us” — earlier in the week and talks with Hull having stalled due to the striker wanting a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Campbell wasn’t in the QPR squad for last night’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City because his father is unwell, according to boss Harry Redknapp: “DJ Campbell's father is very, very ill, so I wanted him to be with him.”

Earlier in the week, Redknapp said Campbell could move out on loan before the transfer window closes.

Blues boss Mick McCarthy had been interested in the 31-year-old returning to Portman Road, even after signing three other strikers, but gave up the chase when it appeared Town’s 10-goal top scorer had all but agreed a deal elsewhere.

Summer Blues target George Boyd is on the verge of joining Crystal Palace, the team he supported as a boy, from Peterborough, the clubs having agreed a fee. Boyd is talking terms with the Eagles.

This is a shame, he was a good keeper maybe bring in an experienced keeper for loach to learn off though, loach is great but can still learn much more!

Hendo's only being linked so no panic there. Happy for Jason Scotland to have scored and doing well but disappointed to see him leave but hope he doesnt help them leapfrog us in the tables, especially if it ends up relegating us.

Paying jason scotland off could prove to be a mistake, particularly as we let a permanent player go, and now relying on loans again. Back to square one in the Summer. When will we learn?

Typical of Ipswich to sell their only spot on impact player, I am sure the curse is still on this club. Hopefully DJ may come back to us until the end of the season, fingers crossed.

I'd like to see us go down a different route with a keeper to be honest. Henderson hasn't exactly sparkled and I think in Loach we have as good a keeper.

Half of me is very happy that Jason has landed on his feet at a new club, the other half of my rues the fact that that new club is Barnsley and we let him go there.

To think we paid Scotland off to go and play for another relegation team !!
I do wish that it had been Ellington instead of him gone ?????
It was old pals act that Jewellio gave him a 2yr. contract, he pulled the wool over marcus evans eyes on that one, that is probably why he is cautious nowadays ????
He has spent a lot and I hope he has learned a lot from these previous managers ????

Don't often agree with Jas0999 but spot obviously this time. Scotland was a great impact player and feel we may regret letting him go with the yet unproven new strikers (some loan) we now have.
As others have said, if they start to show form then price goes up and our pockets don't appear to be very deep these days.
Good luck Jason, wish you well at Barnsley and hope they don't pull us into relegation zone.

Personally I'd happily take a squad full of loans to keep us in the Championship, MM is just trying to stabalize us here, then in the summer he'll get his players he wants

Robinson going from warming bench at Blackburn to doing the same at West Ham. Makes sense (not).
Why dont we go for him instead? Anyone remember John Jackson?

Not over fussed about Henderson as he is no better than Loach (IMO) feel we need another keeper as ALB is good enough, so Henderson would be fine till end of season.

Hull according to the Mirror were offering a 18 month deal of 23k a week to DJ.
Feel he is a player who could help get us out of this division but not good enough for the Prem, 15k a week plus a 3 and a half year deal

Big Gamble as his wages would be £2.7million but prem money would be £80 million

Another January transfer day about Henderson, wonder if he will say this time he would rather play for free than join us.

Trust in Mick completely but the decision to pay-off Scotland's contract when we are in the middle of a relegation battle is a strange one.
I still think he was our number 3 striker (excellent as an impact sub as he showed against Millwall).
We could live to regret that decision unless we get someone like Campbell in.

Come on Town lets get a decent keeper in and show our ambition and gat Campbell back ,without his goals were stuttering

Good lad and scored some decent goals but not someone who is gonna move us foward = MM didnt feature him and buying three other forwards he saw his chances of playing diminish - Got to be real here , he wants to play regular football ,and he wouldnt get that here - people on here say , rightly - he was an 'impact' player - I think he wanted to be a regular player - Good Luck at Barnsley but just stay one place below us please

Don't care about Henderson, average at best. More annoyed about George Boyd, to think we could have had him left midfield instead of Lee Martin!

Karlosfandangal added 12:25 - Jan 30
If Boyd is so brillient why are Posh bottom and why do posh want to get rid.
Talking to the Posh fans they all say he is average at best and not Prem Class.

Why last season was it all Lee Martin this and that and lets get him signed up and what a disgrase to let his contract run down etc and now its all lets get rid of Martin.

Seem to remember on here about how Scotland was a donkey and why did we buy him and now its we should of not let him go.

Make your minds up Ipswich fans the most fickle in the world

Wonder what other options we may have if we dont get Henderson? Anyone got any ideas? I would like Westwood but i dont think it will be an option as Sunderland wont let him go.

Henderson - I won't be sorry to see him go elsewhere.

Scotland - Paying him to leave then seeing him sign for our relegation rivals and scoring for them with virtually his first touch doesn't look good on ITFC. So long as we stay up though, I wish Jason all the best.

Campbell - Sorry to read about his father's health. I really thought DJ was off to Palace, so if that's not happening and QPR don't want him maybe he will end up back here on loan? I don't want up to sign him on an expensive permanent deal, as I am often writing on here that I don't like us signing Premier League players in their 30s, but we do need goals right now so a loan would be OK (much as I dislike too many loans!).

Not fussed about henderson going elsewhere, still rate loach highly although many on here will disagree. Personally would like an experienced gk like davis of southampton to help mentor loach, however this is only my opinion. In mick we trust!!

It seems that even under MM we are still second best in transfer market.I realise Palace are in the money now and will have even more if Ollie gets them into Prem;whilst out Managers have to scratch around for leftovers (mostly loans).
I can only approximate but Jim Magilton was allowed to spend £7,315000 whilst bringing in £5,670000 in sales.Roy Keane £9,535000/£4,950000 and Paul Jewell only spent just over half this sum £4,979000 whilst bringing in £9,660000.
I realise the above figures do not include salaries.
Mick Mc Carthy has so far paid out an undisclosed sum for Frank Nouble from Wolves(any idea of this figure Phil)whilst agreeing to play a friendly with Chippenham Town for Tyrone Mings.
Although a small amount of money may have changed hands for this last player it means that so far MM has had to scratch around just like his predecessor.
I think with all the hype generated especially by David Sheepshanks at the time of Marcus Evans takeover, most of us supporters thought we would be in a much better position than we have been, with relegation still a stark possibilty to Div 1.
In Mick Mc Carthy Evans has chosen a much stronger character than PJ,aand I fear that if things dont go well in the next few months, then he could walk as he knows he wont have a problem getting a job elsewhere. Also shareholders are still waiting for details of the clubs finances which were not available at last Autumns AGM and are still awaited.
