West Ham Recall Henderson
Thursday, 21st Mar 2013 10:54

West Ham have recalled keeper Stephen Henderson from his loan with the Blues. The Irishman was due to remain at Portman Road until the end of the season.

The Hammers insisted on including a 24-hour recall clause in the 24-year-old's second loan spell of the season with the Blues.

The former Portsmouth man made 16 appearances for Town in his first spell between October and early January and another eight after rejoining in the final hours of the transfer window.

Henderson's departure leaves the Blues with Scott Loach, Arran Lee-Barrett and youngster Michael Crowe. Manager Mick McCarthy could choose to bring another keeper in on loan before next Thursday's loan deadline.

[Edit] West Ham's decision to recall Henderson comes after second-choice Raphael Spiegel broke a finger while training with the Swiss U21 squad.

Oh dear, the task to remain a Championship side has just become more difficult. Maybe Milwall have influenced the Hammers

Would not be surprised to see Henderson go out on loan again before next Thursday, with a deal in place for a permanent move at the end of the season. Something that I dont think that we would commit to at this time.

algarvefan: Allardyce doesn't hate us, just what happened to his team all those years ago at PR. Recalling Henderson has absolutely zero to do with that.

I'm more than confident in Loach. No qualms there.

I'm happy if Loach gets an opportunity to prove himself! Always thought he was a good keeper, still relatively young aswell

StowTractorBoy - like you said "Henderson had a shaky start and was wrongly lambasted" which is exactly what you are saying about Loach. Like Henderson needs time between the posts to get confidence and work with the back 4. Think it's time for Mick to give the lad a chance and prove himself even if Mick does get another loan deal they too are going to need time to adjust so why not give this lad a chance and get off his case?
Come on Loach prove all the doubters wrong and have a cracking end to the season for Town.

Corrrr you lot don't learn do you. Last season tommy smith took a battering and now he's up for player of the season this year... Look forward to loachy proving you wrong! He plays for your team. I know this sounds wrong and an odd thing to say but to you supporters but...... Support him?

Trust Sam to give us a kick in the Groin !!! Hendo was getting in the swing of things here ,
His enthusiasm really showed he cared when Carlos scored that goal against Bolton ???
So Sam tell us why you want him back so soon ??? You have no injury worries ?????

@WickedBlue - just my opinion, Loach has made some serious blunders in the first team and was apparently at fault again for the U21s the other night. I'd love to see him come in and do well, but Henderson is a top keeper at this level and there's no way Loach is at the same level at the moment imo.
At the end of the day, it's a muppet policy relying on loans - especially in the most important position!

I can see no change in Wet Spam's circumstances to trigger this recall other than sheer bloody mindedness.

As long as the back 4 remains the same (with N'Daw and Hyam protecting them) we could probably play either of the Chuckle Brothers in goal till the end of the season and still rack up clean sheets...

Agree with some of the other posts. Loach did well in both his spells up until injury or being dropped but henderson is much stronger on crosses. With such slender leads at the moment we need a keeper to be plucking the ball out of the air on 95th minute corners and taking the pressure off!

Hopefully they've been working on this side of his game. Happy to see him back though. Always good to get our own players out there.

if a few of you think we rely that much on Henderson, then it's curtains already... it isnt, so keep your hair on

What is all the fuss about. Our clean sheets have hardly been down to henderson. On saturday I can't remember him having a save to make. Loach would have kept his place if he hadn't got injured

Not good news especially when the back five have been so tight of late, i dont mean to do a diservice to Henderson who hasn't really put a foot wrong and I thank him for what he's done, but the main reason we haven't conceded is because we've given the opposition hardly any goalscoring opportunities. Harry Kane had one against us but put it wide and Henderson made a double save at Huddersfield but I cant remember much else thats threatened us, I also think Loach is just as good a shot stopper so if teams can break through I would back him to make a big save. This also wont be an issue if we can liven up a bit at the other end, we wont always keep clean sheets so we've got to try and take the pressure of the lads at the back.

Wonder if this is anything to do with wolves!
Wasn't Saunders with allardyce at Newcastle??
I'm sure big Mick will get someone else in for a bit of cover!!
And I'm sure it'll be sooner rather then later with the way Mick does business!!

what is the deal with these idiots saying loach is HALF the player henderson is?
HALf!!! thats a bit strong isnt it.I think on balance henderson is a bit better maybe 5%better tops. They are on a similar level and only a fool would suggest he is half the player hendo is.
Suggesting this will relegate us is daft the back 4 have palyed a massive part in hendersons record. They have far more work to do than the keeper does.
I think if we bring another keeper in on an 'emergancy' loan he would have to be significantly better than loach to make it worth it and i cant see us finding anybody that much better on loan.
Why have 3 keepers in the squad if whenever one goes or is injured we are too afraid to play them? I remeber when Craig Forrest had a problem Clive baker used to start i think that happend even in the premier league there was no question of some daft loan

Also surprising wolves have just had a injury to their 1st goalkeeper too!!

I'd have liked to have kept Hendo as I do think he is the better keeper out of the two and our back four was settled
I seem to remember Henderson was touted for a swap deal for Robinson at Blackburn before the window shut
Think Jussi at West Ham is crocked
Cant see Mick going back in for hendo again
Shame, hope loach can fill the gap, this is your chance Scott

This is why have such key positions covered by the use of loanees is not ideal, however the fact the McCarthy wanted him back on loan also in my view doesn't say a lot about Loach. I am concerned as I don't believe that Loach is as good as Henderson and we have kept some clean sheets with Henderson in goal, I'm not so confident that this will be as easy with Loach. I do hope he proves me wrong and becomes a class keeper, which would also save us a lot of money during the summer as I can see that the way things are at the moment Mick will want to bring in a new number one in the summer.

Hennesey on loan any one he has experience and is not playing one of the best we could get atm but only if wolves would sell to us - which they may not

Arrrgghhh!! Really hate this 24 hour clause. We'd just got a really settled back 5 so let's hope they have the same confidence in Loach as they do with Henderson. We really need Loach to step up and show his potential!

Although I'm sure Loach can do a good job, having a defensive set up mucked up after so many clean sheets is NOT good news.

At least MM has some time if another emergency loan is needed - after all, what if Loach has thumb problems again? ALB? Not a good situation to find ourselves in. Thanks Spam!

Westwood anyone?
Loach is a decent keeper, no doubt. And being a fan of the club is great (better than being a fan of the scum anyway). But being a fan of the club doesnt mean we should limit the standard of our GK to that alone if another better player is available.

To be fair to KellyBBlue..... Hendo did tell the fans to eff off after the Hudds match.

.....but he had turned around to clap the fans, only to be met by boo's. So i can kind of see his point.
