McGoldrick Set to Return to Forest
Thursday, 4th Apr 2013 14:28

Striker David McGoldrick will return to Nottingham Forest after Saturday’s game at Derby with his loan having come to an end. The 25-year-old had been understood to be with the Blues until the end of the season — at which point he is expected to sign a two-year deal — but is in fact only on a 93-day loan.

Manager Mick McCarthy confirmed that the four-goal frontman will be on his way back to the City Ground after the weekend: “The loan deal was for 93 days and we took him until the Derby game.

“He’s a really good player and before anybody asks me why we didn’t sign him, he couldn’t have three registrations for one club in any season.

“He’d been registered with Forest and he’d been registered with Coventry as a window-to-window loan and you can’t have three.

“We would have signed him permanently at the time, but we couldn’t so we had to take him on an emergency loan, so it was either miss him for five games at the start of the loan or five at the end.”

Both club and player have stated that he will sign a two-year permanent deal with the Blues on July 1st, but McCarthy says that’s not yet formalised: “We can’t do anything about that, it’s one of those things.

“We took him on loan for 93 days, there have been talks with him because we agreed to take him and give him a contract, providing we stay in the Championship, and that [Town's divisional status] is not sorted yet.”

The Blues boss says McGoldrick couldn’t sign a pre-contract agreement: “He can’t sign one, that’s illegal. You can’t do that.

“We’ve discussed it with him and he wants to stay, but until he comes out of contract we can’t do anything about it. There’s no point in me trying to hide away from that fact because everybody knows.

“Has he loved it here, has he liked it? Does he want to stay? [If we] stay in the league, I think he does. He’s been loved here by everybody and he’s enjoyed his football, so we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy confirmed that midfielder Jay Tabb has had his loan from Reading extended until the end of the season: ”That’s to the end of the season. They’ve got a recall on it, which suits everybody. They’ll only recall him if they want to play him.

“Tabby’s doing great for us, but if they wanted to play him in the Premier League I couldn’t deny him that anyway. But I don’t think that’s going to happen. He’s loving it and he wants to play.”

Well that's a bit poo!

Talk about being fed a pack of lies by the club AND McCarthy when he signed. "It's a loan until the end of the season, then he's signing for 2 years on July 1st".

Lying b*stards!

Christ, what a nightmare, I was under the impression it was done and dusted but obviously not. Someone has got to step up to the plate now, we can go on about the work rate of our strikers all we want but like Dj, McGoldrick is the one who has stepped up to the plate and taken a weight of the others shoulders. Would it be an option to put JET up front? its ok to say we only need four points or whatever but we are bound to concede a couple and you don't win if you don't score.

Does seem a bit strange to originally announce it to the end of the season and then say it was always only for 93 days.

Have we ever had anyone on loan that has, at the end of the loan, benefited ITFC?

So that's why we took an extra defensive player on loan...

So with that knowledge, why did we offload Scotland so early?

There's something slightly odd happening here, that this has suddenly come out, without any warning and contrary to what was being said (on the official site) at the beginning of January when he first signed.

Why not just tell us this at the beginning?

Flaming Nora!!! How disappointing is that? It means we need more from JET, MC, DM and AMc if we are to avoid the dreaded R word!

Actually this isn't the first porker Mick has told us. He promised "no more loans" then immediately regressed and now this! Me thinks there is something fishy going on here and I can't, at the moment, fathom out what.

Is this why MM didn't start with him at Millwall? Interesting to see if he starts/plays at Derby

Someone needs a bit of a rollicking for putting wrong information out when he first signed on loan.

The whole situation regarding player loans needs overhauling as does the system of transfer windows

FFS.
Something going on - process the details: no permenant signings, Goldrick wants to stay buy can't. Players misbehaving. Loans being recalled.

Withdrawl of funds from player budget.?

Unless i'm mistaken this means one of three things have happened!

1. It was always a 93 day loan and we have been fed lies
2. Something has happened whereby we/him have decided against stay
3. McCarthy didn't have a true idea of the deal situation

None of the above are particularly desired!

Let's just hope we stay up and something still gets done. Decent striker and at a good age

Disaster, he has been an excellent addition & I have been looking forward to Mick setting up the forward players around him for next season. The player himself has said previously that he will sign a 2 year deal in the summer, but you'd have to have some concerns that his head could be turned now - remember what happened Jerry Maguire!

Step up Aaron Maclean! Presumably/hopefully he was always cover for this situation.
