Chambers: We're All In It Together
Friday, 12th Apr 2013 12:10

Luke Chambers has hailed the Ipswich team spirit and believes the players are now gaining their rightful rewards as a result of squad unity.

Chambers revealed: “Even if lads don’t get on we’re all in it together. We stuck together even when we were getting stick and we were right down at the bottom.

“Success only breeds good team spirit and we seem to have had quite a bit of success over the last few months.

“In the majority of games the gaffer has used the same 11 as often as he could but the lads who have come in all feel part of it. Since the day I walked through the door I have seen the lads get stronger and get closer.”

But Chambers is quick to confess that the impact of Mick McCarthy’s appointment to succeed Paul Jewell in November has taken Town to greater heights, even if they remain the Championship’s lowest marksmen.

He added: “Everyone has pulled their weight from day one since Mick came in. We’ve all been playing at the top level and anyone not playing at that level has been replaced in the team. Everyone knows what is expected of them.

“Yes, the strikers would like to score more goals — we as defenders would like them to score more goals — but I’m not sure if there has been too much service for them to feed on.

“We’ll look at some things in the future but at the minute we’re going to keep doing the things we have been doing. We’ve won three and drawn one of our last four games so it’s a fairly decent run for us.”

Turning the Championship's worst defence into the best defence has been the minor miracle which will (hopefully) keep us up, and pretty much done with the original players...Loach, Cresswell, Smith, Chambers (with Hyam and N'Daw especially protecting them). If we could add Stearman as a permanent signing in the summer, that is an excellent basis in front of which to build the side we want.

^^^dont forget Henderson, he was superb in his second stint, Loach has done very well with the clean sheets recently but has also been very lucky to get away with some sloppy handling/parrying, that's not a dig at Loach, I want him to succeed as much as anyone but Hendo was alot more assured and tidier.

Ok, not trying to make something of nothing, but anyone hazard a guess as to what he's referring to when he starts by saying "Even if lads don't get on we're all in it together."

Get on? I thought the team got on well, before that comment.

They're not necessarily all the best of mates off the pitch! How many workplaces do you know, with 30 or more staff, where everybody loves everybody else? Doesn't stop them working well together as a team - indeed I'd say that's one of the top skills of management, to weld together a disparate group of people into an efficient and smooth-running unit, regardless of personalities.

It´s probably fair to assume that there was a bit of stick flying around the dressing room after some of the performances earlier in the season - some individual performances were quite poor. Totally agree with Guthrum´s analysis.

He means "get on" as in 'onto the pitch, off the bench' I believe, as was pointed out in earlier posts! Phil could we clarify that please?
