Emmanuel-Thomas: Time for New Adventure
Monday, 6th May 2013 12:45

Midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas says it’s “time for a new adventure” having been told he can move on by the Blues. The 22-year-old and striker Michael Chopra have been informed that they can leave Portman Road this summer if offers come in, despite having a year left on their contracts.

The former Arsenal youngster tweeted: “Time for a new adventure, had a great time but my time is up. #ThankYou”

Emmanuel-Thomas made 43 starts and 32 substitute appearances for the Blues, scoring nine goals, having joined from the Gunners in the summer of 2011 for a fee which could ultimately have reached £2 million had various clauses been triggered. Chopra has already said he won’t necessarily be moving on.

Keeper Arran Lee-Barrett and midfielder Andy Drury have been told they won’t be offered new terms when their contracts are up at the end of the season, while Lee Martin has rejected much-reduced new terms.

We understand keeper Jason Brown, who signed on a short-term deal in March, is now also set to be released.

Never seemed to perform, so fine if he moves on. I congratulate him on the class of his tweet, unlike the twit Chopra.

i suppose if your a player who tells you that his best position is up front and then you get used as a stopgap in many positions, you can safely say the gaffer does not think you are long term.so much for the "i dont like to put square pegs in round hole theory"! jet looked more useful up top where could be more involved instead of stuck out wide.hopefully in letting jet go, big mick has the guy lined up to do what jet couldn't,dig deep mr evans!

As i said in a previous post i like JET as a character but he's had 2 seasons to show this 'talent' and have we actually seen it more than twice in that time? This guy is no doubt on big wages and why should we keep paying him them when he's offering very little return just in case one day he decides he's going to graft and do his part. His, Chopra and Martin's wages can be much better spent on 2 or 3 real quality additions to the squad.

agree with this on both counts
they are luxury players who have had the chances
you cant carry people in this league
jet was warned by McCarthy what he wanted from him
chops weve been more than fair with
on their day good players, but how many off days do they have
nah get rid and martin as well
clear the decks mick, get some hungry players in that will bust a gut for the shirt

I trust Mick's judgement. I like JET and I wish him luck, but it's time to move on. Onwards and upwards!

chopra, martin and JET all had plenty of chances to come good but time to give a chance to some new blood. I wish JET well but think he'll need to find some consistency if his career is to flourish

JET has shown us flashes of brilliance. However, he is more like Junior Stanislas - an occasionally decent impact substitute - rather than a Yannick Bolasie, a winger who has played a central role in Palace's play-off push. He is just not consistent enough.

He has been an outstanding ambassador for the club and has contributed to the improved morale through his consistently positive approach, but we need a player who will provide a consistent threat for 25 games a season. Cold judgement sadly suggests that JET will not provide this, and we won't regret his leaving.

Having said this, I will miss him at the club and wish him huge success going forward.

Oh well if he was that good he would have been in the starting team week in week out. Yes was a good player but only in the odd game here and there
And when giving the chance didn't take it. Noubles done more than him in 4 months than he's done in 3 years.

Whats the good of having a luxury player who only performs when the team as a whole is playing well? We have struggled for the first half of the season and JET had plenty of chances to show his class but unfortunately he didn't do it that often. If he was a 'game changer' then it would be different but sadly he isn't and its no good just hoping that one day he will. I think a lot of people on here are deluding themselves over JET and I think it is the best possible outcome for him to move on.

I think we will regret letting JET go. I would keep him and made a decision in Jan transfer window, As for Chopra, it is best he moves on. He is on big wages and has been a huge disappointment.

Two years ago I said Chopra hadn't done anything for anyone for years, and he still hasn't, and is a big bell-end besides. Taylor we fear may be another. JET frankly ought to have done better by now. I always want to see him play, because I think, "maybe this time...", but it's not really happened much has it? And since so many of us have been moaning about contracts being allowed to wind down, I can't see that MM is doing anything wrong here at all. Good luck to them. I really do hope they go and are better and happy somewhere else - it works for us sometimes with players coming in, you can't really grumble if it happens the other way round. That, as they do say, is football. I don't get the impression that Stearman is going to come, sadly. Does anyone else?

Not that surprised or that bothered about jet to be honest..we need players who give their all all the time , not just when it suits them.

Maybe now we can give the number 9 shirt to a striker worthy of it.

If jet is going tho , I hope Martin's next.

Town have now become the 3rd Club to say "no thanks" to JET.

Sadly despite his undoubted flair/ talent , something isn't quite right with this player so much so that managers say, that's it , we've gone as far as we can go with him - time to ,ove on. I suspect JET will be one of these enigmas that will move from club to club making a living out of failure. Very sad really.

There is a time to cut bait and MM is showing strength by facing up to the situation and making the hard decisions.

JET has potential (we've been saying this for quite a while now) and I sincerely wish him well.

he bought a lot of character and team spirit to the club and always loved success- Chopra can sling his hook and I won't shed a tear but JET? big loss I fear

@lonelyblue. I totally get the impression that Stearman isn't heading out way- he seemed very matter of fact in saying cheer for the run out but never really mentioned the urge to stay

I have faith in Mick, and believe that if he felt JET still had something to offer us, he would've kept him. He has the ability to be brilliant, but sometimes has seemed disinterested. Wish him luck in the future, but I don't think he was ever gonna be a first team regular for us.

Three f..kin overpaid clowns, well down Mick for getting rid of all the dead wood.

A shame as he obviously has talent, but am happy to back Mick's judgement. Can easily see him being snapped up by Palace, whether they go up or not. He's the kind of gifted but wayward player Holloway has specialised in getting the best out of and would be a logical replacement for Zaha.

I have total faith that MM knows exactly what he is doing.

Cheers JET and good luck in the future wherever it is.

I honestly believe that the team will in no way miss any of these three.

Jet :- I have the ability to score from anywhere on the pitch - I just can't be bothered !
Chopra :- I'm going to score 30 goals this season - yeah, right !
Martin :- Watch me do the fancy stuff, but don't expect me to pass or score as well !

This summer there will be a lot of good players available and I trust in MickMac and TC to bring them to PR. Roll on next season. Have a good one folks.

More excellent decision making by McCarthy. Jetlag flatters to deceive and Martin as his goal scoring and disciplinary record shows has a total waste of investment. neither will come back to haunt us as a few have suggested on here. In fact in a few months time both will realise what a chance they blew.
