McCarthy Confirms Player Exits
Tuesday, 7th May 2013 17:54

Boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed the exits of midfielders Lee Martin and Andy Drury and keeper Arran Lee-Barrett and that striker Michael Chopra and midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas have been made available for transfer.

McCarthy told the club site: “Lee, Andy and Arran are all out of contract and have been released. I want to look at other options but we wish them every success for the future.

“I have also spoken to Michael Chopra and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and told them that I don’t see them as being part of my plans going forward and they are free to look for another club.”

Town have also confirmed that keeper Jason Brown, who joined on a short-term contract in March, will not be extending his time at Portman Road.

Good riddance Lee Martin. He was like an angry version of Forest Gump!

ALB - not good enough for championship
Drury - Worked hard ,not good enough for championship
Martin - Over paid signing ,over paid wages done nothing in 4 years
Chopra - Gamble i thought would work , hasnt get rid bad influence on squad (Lucky we didnt spend the 4 million on him Keane wanted too !!)
JET - Would have liked to have kept him for next season for MM and TC to really get at him after pre season ,not to be but feel he could become really good

MM and TC will get a squad and team playing together for each other with the right players in the right positions for it all to work ,he has done it a number of times without big names .Exciting summer and season ahead especially as we seem to be doing deals early for once

With Jet's unfulfilled career to date it is difficult to see who would go for him unless he is let go for peanuts- I mean lower division clubs wouldn't have cash to pay much for him and would any championship side see him as anything more than a Town reject? All in all he may still end up here next year and if MM has the grace to keep him in his plans/ give him another chance we may yet see Jet fulfill potential.

Sad to see Drury & ALB go, as they punched above their weight and were decent squad players. But at least we gave them both a fair amount of playing time to alert a League 1 side to snap them up. I expect to see both play 40 games next season for a League 1 club.
The other three have been relatively expensive experiments that occasionally shine but just haven't consistently worked and all seem to come with distracting baggage (addictions, twitter, red cards, etc). We just don't need that when looking for a promotion pushing campaign. Think they all need a fresh start somewhere else for their own sakes and good luck to them.

You have to admire MM & TC. Every decision that they've made in the last week or so has been spot on. Lee Martin along with Tamas Priskin have cost ITFC millions. I have noticed that RK only seems to be working as a tv pundit. Maybe he'll take over at Man U!! lol.

MM and TC are gonna be very shrewd in the transfer market. I can feel it in my water.

Wont be too bothered about Lee Martin going. 6 Goals in 4yrs is shocking for an attacking player let alone one who cost millions and is one of the highest earners at the club. Shame we wasted so much money on him - Thanks Roy!
Shame about ALB as he has been a good servant to the club.
Chopra - well what can I say that hasn't already been said? His reaction to this news says it all - spoilt selfish with no idea of how much this club has tried to help him. Well rid.
JET - I hope we don't receive offers for him and he realises that next season is IT - All or Nothing. I think Mick and Terry have already made improvements in his workrate and would be good to have in the squad as he does have the tools to be a match winner (as he has shown recently)

I'm very disappointed with Chopra's reaction. The club, after all, have supported him through all his trials and tribulations, and given him every chance. This has included lending him money. The decision to release him is best for all parties. A line has to be drawn.

...... just hope MM is not tempted by the 'mega bucks' that he will now be offered, along with the 'olive branch' by WOLVES - now Saunders has been disposed of.

MUCH more of a concern than most of you will be thinking it is ........ !!

...... could earn himself another £million next season with the 'carrot' of getting WOLVES promoted ........ !!!!!!

Funny old game this - don't have too much faith in it.

shame to see martin and jet going.
martin has been played out of position for his entire stay at portman road.
mick must realise he is decent or he would have offered no contract to him not to mention the amount of times mick picked him.
its all verey well getting rid of players but we are going to havew a lot of upheaval now which has hindered us in the past.
i will support whoever mick signs.
all the people on here slagging martin talking about running round your garden celebrating you need to have a long hard look at yourselves.
he has always tried his best ansd clearly loves his football.
he did not decide his fee ands his agent negotiated his contract all he has done is take a job do his best and leave at the end of his contract when offered less money when he has been a first team regular.
good luck lee me and the real fans wish you well
