Pompey: We've Spoken to Grant But He Might Join Ipswich
Tuesday, 25th Jun 2013 15:55

Portsmouth assistant boss Steve Allen has revealed that the League Two side have spoken to Wycombe Wanderers winger Joel Grant this summer, but says the 25-year-old may join Town. A fortnight ago, TWTD revealed that Grant is amongst the Blues’ summer targets.

Allen said: “We met Joel Grant of Wycombe, he hasn’t gone anywhere yet but he might end up going to Ipswich.”

Speaking yesterday, Blues boss Mick McCarthy, who is notorious for playing his cards close to his chest regarding his targets, played down his interest in Grant and Blackpool defender Kirk Broadfoot, who is also out of contract this summer.

Wycombe were back for pre-season training today but Grant is not understood to have returned to the League Two club.

Perhaps notably, the Chairboys have completed the signing of former Plymouth winger Paris Cowan-Hall.

'out of contract'

perhaps some who have been denying that is all we will sign this sunner might finally take heed

yep, I have every faith in MM to get the best out of them, but fans need to recognise how things are moneywise

Joel Grant is one player I would love to see in a Town shirt

If he has pace to burn, then that is what we need. We are still desperately short of pace but I believe MM knows that and will sign the right players at the right time!

Utter non-story. Boo for following the EADT's cheap ploy for web hits and reporting it. Tell us when its done.

Our story was written before theirs! And I don't think it is a non-story. Another club's assistant boss saying he thinks a player is coming here is very much a story.

Well said Phil, i think an assistant manger from another club quoting that a player might be coming here is a very strong hint!

Ignore the fools Phil. We all know it was written here first. If we can't compete for players against a League Two side then there's something seriously wrong. Would like to see him come though.

Why isn't he jumping at the chance with both feet to come here?? Must once again be down to location surely....Pompey can't offer what we're offering the lad that's for sure.

Any player in league Two with real pace and good ability will have plenty of takers, I want to see us land a couple quickly, or this'll turn into a desperate last ditch situation and back to the loans which we said wouldn't happen..

Sorry I got the ordering wrong for the source (saw it from EADT first on Twitter is all). However from my perspective 'might join' means as much as 'might NOT join' (!). Perhaps I'm bored of the weight of constant transfer speculation online. Thats not your fault because "we" seek it out, but given Mick's approach of talking about stuff when its done not before (unlike his predecessors) I was hoping those reporting on ITFC might follow suit. Apologies for any offence caused.

It Really worries me that we are Competing with League 2 Skint Pompey, surely it's a no brainer for Grant? I'd like to think it is anyway!? Why do we always get speculated with every other player and they always go somewhere else? What are we doing wrong?

Harry10.. whats wrong with out of contract?

I am very pleased to see us being sensible, and think that every one of our summer signings are excellent

hopefully we can get him and get some balls in the box.
I can see nouble top scoring for us this season with this lad or somebody similar supplying the chances.
ipsrich so you should apologise you chose to read the story and visit the site.
i dont think TWTD is going to sell many web impressions off this storys traffic alone is it.

Why not, looks pretty handy. Young, pacey, confident, versatile. TC could polish. Seems a logical adition to the squad and potentially a good impact player late on when we want to be stretching opponents...

if pompey are the competition to sign this guy then there is no competition.players constantly tell us that they want to play at the highest level possible.i reckon if nothing else is is heard by thursday then he isnt coming.

Do you remember that time a smart alec moaner lad came on the site having a go at people who were doing their job, & doing it well, only for Phil to smack his bottom for him?

I don't think that Lee Martin had 14minutes of highlights for us. So, well worth a punt!
