Wycombe's Grant Joins Yeovil
Wednesday, 26th Jun 2013 16:14

Newly-promoted Yeovil Town have announced that Blues target Joel Grant has agreed to join them on a two-year deal.

Grant, whose contract at Wycombe Wanderers is up at the end of the month, is understood to have been offered terms by Town, while League Two Portsmouth were also amongst the other interested clubs.

Speaking on Monday, manager Mick McCarthy played down his interest in Grant and Blackpool's out-of-contract defender Kirk Broadfoot.

Meanwhile, ex-Blue Nathan Ellington is training with Crewe Alexandra as he looks to extend his stay with the Railwaymen. The 31-year-old spent the final couple of months of last season at Gresty Road having been exited Town by mutual consent in January.

Elsewhere, ex-Town loanee Liam Rosenior has agreed a two-year extension to his contract with newly-promoted Hull City.

Big LOL.

I doubt we were seriously after him then, or he lacks ambition.

Either way no big loss.

Sorry, I know i'm biased being a Town supporter but even I could see if he had the choice between Yeovil or here...Without a doubt would head this way. Maybe due to more chances of appearences, but for his age and ability and where we're heading as a club I can't understand his motive.

Maybe Mick was telling the truth that we were never in for him.

Total non-story.We must have been "linked" with 20 odd players.Just agents trying to drum up interest in their players linking us all the time.

Looks like 1) he wasn't that bothered by town. 2) we never actually offered him terms. 3) Yeovil are spending big to maintain their new positon.

4) Next.......

Gutted...

I suppose the Somerset countryside was a bit of a pull for him

Jesus christ. To be honest Mick hasn't even said he wanted him so we might not have even offered him terms. If we can't compete with Yeovil then we're in trouble.

Having watched Wycombe several times last year, I'd say Yeovil is about Grant's level. If Mick did offer him a deal, I'd imagine he made no promises of a regular place, whereas I reckon Yeovil will use him every week. He was hardly pulling up trees every game last year, so not a massive loss imo. We're better going for some kids off bigger teams or proven championship lads. Remember for every martin, there's a tarricco hiding somewhere!!

Bit gutted that we didn't sign him, reckon he would have been a good signing, maybe he reckons he can get better first team football there, nevermind

shame as he looked the sort of player we need , but there are others around , so we move on .
we are looking solid , hard to beat , but could do with someone with a bit of speed to pep things up a bit ...............maybe there's still hope that Jet can come good

I think we might have swerved a bullet on this one (asuming we did offer terms).

Out fought by Yeovil town in transfer market. Reality check time then!! End of day we've been in championship 12 years now, with little money, who says he just wasn't offered better terms by a newly promoted ambitious and potentially exciting team. I love Ipswich but every year we are in this league we get deeper and deeper in the rut. Yeovil finances are in the black and ours are in the red, so they put more on the table than us

shame but maybe we did not offer terms or maybe yeovil said he would be a first choice and mick said he would be a squad player either way we move on.
are there no good wingers abroad we could bring in for the left

we've got a solid spine to our squad but will we get the right players to add a bit of flexibility to our rigid team?hope so

Has MM ever said he was on the want list ? His usual manner of silence until signing done shows no sign of changing which makes life , in some ways , frustrating but does not alert others to his targets . This should make life easier for him to obtain his targets .

Yeovil the new Wigan! mayby?

Also it shows , if we were ever talking to him , a distinct lack of ambition or sense in choosing to go to Yeovil .

Need a replacement for Lee Martin.I hope in fact that we were able to match Yeovils terms if we were in for him because if not Mick is being asked to get promotion on a shoestring.Money spent on transfers since he came here is the level club was operating on 30 years ago.Hope he doesn't get offerred a job by a club better off than us as he could be tempted.Although FFP has to be taken into account mustn't use it as an excuse as this season think owners can put in 6m.

alexsmith - you're spot on - and guess what ?? - the normal excuse makers immediately get on the defensive and bury their heads in the sand yet again.

Fact is :- IF we were in for him !! - we CANNOT compete with YEOVIL on whatever front was important to the player.

Get real all you MINUS punchers and accept it as it REALLY is.
Otherwise the only people you are kidding is yourselves - go on hit the MINUS button again !
