Swap Deals "Notoriously Difficult"
Wednesday, 3rd Jul 2013 15:12

Bristol City managing director Jon Lansdown says swap deals such as the proposed exchange of Town’s Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Robins winger Paul Anderson are notoriously difficult transfers to complete.

Speaking in an interview with City’s official website, Lansdown said: “I don’t think there’s anything to add at this stage. It’s been widely reported that we have an interest in Jay and Ipswich have an interest in Paul.

“But swap deals are notoriously difficult because you’ve essentially got four parties that have to agree on something and it’s very rare that that all comes together at once.

“It’s been quite widely reported that there is interest and that’s accurate but it still takes a lot to get something like that over the line. There’s nothing really to add to what’s already been said.”

He dismissed claims that Emmanuel-Thomas, who didn't travel to Ireland with the rest of the Town squad on Monday, had held talks at Ashton Gate earlier in the week: “That isn’t accurate.

"The fact that there is interest from both sides and both players may well be accurate but in terms of anything imminent, there’s nothing.”

Meanwhile, released Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon, who is understood to have held talks with the Blues earlier in the summer, is reported to be in advanced discussions with Blackburn Rovers, who were first mentioned as one of the other interested parties a month ago.

Elsewhere, Doncaster Rovers have confirmed the signing of ex-Brentford midfielder Harry Forrester, who was watched by Town boss Mick McCarthy last season.

Am I the only one that wouldn't mind seeing JET stay? sure his attitude could be better at times, but we have to remember he's still a young player!

I can't see JET (or Jay as Mick likes to call him) playing in a promotion chasing side (same with Chopra) and more importantly it appears Mick doesn't rate him. Seems like a ice lad though and certainly I think we all thank him for his efforts and wish him well for the future. Will he come back to haunt us ? I don't think so !!

I also feel he could , if given the right teaching ( not coaching ) , do a useful job for us . He needs TEACHING , about work and effort , not coaching as the talent is there . He needs to be taught how to use it !

MM has proven he will play his strongest team, giving JET credit when he got stuck in at the end of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if JET stayed and won his way into the team on merit.

After all, JET has to earn his next move and what's a bigger motivator than £'s?

'Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference' so sad Mr Churchill - JET , like many young English footballers has talent but without the right attitude he will never fulfill it . I think he has been given enough 'fireside chats' TC was given the task of getting the most out of him - at the end it has to come from JET - He is on a good wack and he has to produce - like MC he has not

I actually don't think it's to do with his workrate or his attitude, yes he has ability we can see that, but he isn't a game changer, a few little tricks isn't nearly enough, he's had plenty of chances to change games and he hasn't done it. Simple as.

Looking at this report and what Jons lansdown said, these deals are difficult as all four parties need to agree and quoting him; ""The fact that there is interest from both sides and both players may well be accurate but in terms of anything imminent, there's nothing.” Indicates to me that this will happen. Anderson would undoubtedly want to play in a higher division and Jet understands he has limitations that stops any other championship club coming in for him. I thinks it's a safe bet that this is happening. COYB

....... anyone who keeps 'harping' on about the so called 'JET' staying - let MM be the best judge on that issue, if we have confidence in his judgement.

MM & Co know the other side of the player that we don't - after all, all we see is on the pitch (and some of that has not been terribly impressive) from him,so let MM do his job and make the judgement.

In my opinion this guy has had his chance to impress - and not taken the opportunity - his problem !

Too laid back and not prepared to work hard enough for MM is my guess - amongst maybe other things.

meekreech - ...... what you refer to is basically laziness , without saying it !

I am sure that if anyone can 'teach' someone to conduct themselves away from such - there would be no better person than someone by the name of MM.

Been there, done that and formed an opinion I suspect - hence the player available for transfer, along with one other.

Shame about Kilgallon, but a theme developing here. Players, other than those on loan last season, have generally opted to sign for other clubs rather than us. The reality is, they offer better terms than us.

jason0999 -...... got it in one. No doubt some excuse (sorry reason) forthcoming from someone to say why we can't compete on this front. I'm sure there will be a rule somewhere that only applies to us !!! - preventing such.

Kilgallon hasn't played regularly for an entire season since 2009.

Maybe transfer listing jet is part of mm master plan to get the best out of jet

I find it staggering how any professional footballer would want to join Blackburn Rovers under the Venkys with an unproven manager! Forget the money. How happy would you be playing in a time bomb like Ewood Park!!

Getting a bit annoyed now. I do trust Mick but its just scattered everywhere in the news about clubs signing top transfer targets, and we seem to be doing a lack of business in the right way. Whether its a tight budget I dont know but how are other clubs like Yeovil beating us to signing players?

Bit disappointed that Bristol City are talking about this quite so much. Just get on with it if they want the deal to happen...

Not too concerned right now. Starting 11 is more or less the team which went on a good run at the end of last season. Could do with a bit more strength in depth but this will come in the next few weeks.

Unfortunately JET's style gives the perception of laziness, not that one piece of defending defies this but I seem to recall one superb goal line block against Leicester I think, believe it or not he did also have a spell earlier in his career at Arsenal playing at centre half!!!!. I think JET is a good kid who struggles to find consistency and maybe he is just not sure himself what his best position is. Undeniably talented and I am sure MM has decided he just isn't the type of player that will fit into his system, however, I think MM is being pressurised by the economics to force JET out, could it also be that a few more appearances may just also trigger another payment to Arsenal? I truly wish Jay all the best and would love to see him do well in Division 1 and then move on to make his mark in the Championship and perhaps higher - this may be wishful thinking but I sort of think a run in Division one may help him and his confidence which may trigger some form of consistency. The brutal facts though probably still remain that he perhaps hasn't delivered in line with what we paid for him or what he earns. But then again his Town's goal per game ratio is still significantly higher than Lee Martin i.e 70/8 v 100/6. I think he is probably more of an enigma to himself (as well as to others) rather than suffering from any sort of attitude problem.

Lewis McGugan has gone to Watford & Mark Yeates has gone to Bradford. Both would have been decent signings for us. However let's not forget the deals that have already been done and there is plenty of time to get some more in. Just wish we could sort out the Stearman deal as soon as possible. Trust in MM to get it right.

Lansdown taking up the deal as difficult. Well Mr Lansdown it's like this, you talk to JET & agree terms, ME talks to Anderson and agree terms. Simples.

The real trouble is, you don't want Anderson to leave and you want to sign JET

Any chance we can throw in that other waste of air Chopra free to sweeten the deal???

Just get rid and think about some real signings for next season. These rumours are a complete waste of time. We are just skint because of Keane and Jewell signing players that just don't want to perform. Now Mick has a tough task to sort us out on a budget that is for happy shopper and a wage budget like an employer on a minimum wage. Get real guys it's another long season ahead and I say prove me wrong otherwise.
