Mings Misses Chippenham Return
Saturday, 13th Jul 2013 11:49

Defender Tyrone Mings misses today’s U21 friendly at his former club Chippenham Town having been pulled out of the squad after picking up a knock (KO 1pm). The game was arranged as part of the deal which saw the 20-year-old join the Blues in December and the left-back or centre-half had been looking forward to facing his old side.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tyrone has a knock and we don’t want to take any chances at this stage.

“We have Aaron Cresswell injured at the minute as well and with a game coming up on Tuesday at Gillingham, we are light on left-backs.

“It’s disappointing for Tyrone. I know he was looking forward to going back to Chippenham and we've reluctantly pulled him out of the squad but I’ve got to look at what’s ahead.”

Cresswell suffered what appeared to be a thigh injury at Crawley on Wednesday, having previously been spotted with an icepack on his leg at Shelbourne last Saturday.

Mark Kennedy is in charge of what is essentially an academy squad at Hardenhuish Park this afternoon.

Those involved include right-back Kyle Hammond, who featured in both first-team friendlies, Irish striker Cory Galvin, defenders Omar Sowunmi and Rory Thompson, midfielder or defender Matthew Clarke and striker Ted Bishop.

Team: Crowe, Hammond, October, Leddy, Sowunmi, Clarke, Winter, Trialist, Marriott, Lawrence, Timlin.

Anybody that supports Town in the south west - don't fricking bother turning up!
It's become a farce.
Apparently, anybody that fancies playing in an Town shirt is welcome to have a run out. Don't forget your boots and bring a drink!

Agree with bluehook, was looking forward to seeing the town players in action and this game was a great chance for the club to reward their fans in the south west. They have screwed over the fans and Chippenham

Bluehook. What are you on about? This match was announced as an ipswich11 and that it would be an under21 line up so thats exactly what it is. A shame that Mings unjured as im sure hes have wanted to be there but the 1st team more important

Poor Mings.. No mention of Marriott? Hope he's on the teamsheet, finds some of the form from last season and scores a hatrick, haha

think its easy for those in Ipswich or other parts of the country to not understand the frustration. As I am based in the south west I was happy to see a pre-season friendly that was realistic to go to, as were many others. Try living hours away before you judge those that are unhappy with this

Isn't Marriott now regarded as part of the 1st team squad??

Blue1 you're wrong. The sports centre attached to my school has a Chippenham player working thers and the poster he'd put up said Ipswich Town, not XI and certainly not U21 which was only announced yesterday. I can't understand why some fans are defending this decision. Ok so a full strength team with a match on Tuesday was always doubtful but if a team is In a tournament they'd be expected to play the same team in close succession. It's an insult to Chippenham to announce the day before tge intention to send no senior players.

Agree with Scottrock... It's advertised as Tyrone Mings' Ipswich Town. I've made the trip from Birmingham and enjoying the sun! Optimistically hoping it's a chance to see the future ;)

Latest news is McCarthy is sending down a set of shirts including subs and told them to get some players locally.
He has also asked for the shirts to be washed, ironed and returned.

I'm told that Chippenham nearly let Mings go to Lazio, and would have let him go if they'd promised some friendlies....

On the contrary - it's a nice day, good turn out, good company, £5 to watch our youths. Not bad!

ITFC have always stated an Ipswich XI & cannot be held responsible for how Chippenham Town have promoted the match.

it said on TWTD Town XI since it was announced, you clearly use TWTD as you are posting on here so would have seen it.

Disappointing for the fans in the area that would have liked to have seen more of the 'regular' Town players but a non-league side was never going to get full-strength. Hopefully the U21/Academy players can give a good game and the fans that turn out will get to see some future first-teamers in action.

Any word on if the trialist is for the senior squad or development/academy?

An Ipswich Eleven has always meant just that, a mixture of seniors, reserves and youth team players often with players having a run out following injury. IMO this is a disgrace to the Town name and shoud be rectified with the promise of a future friendly where we would send a mixed bag of players. Hell this is preseason and they are trying to get these players match fit, why the ducking? I am ashamed of the team I have supported since the late fortys! A disgrace.

short on left backs for the game surely mark kennedy could fill in for just this one as guidance for the younger players and russel osman manages the side haha :)

I remember about 10yrs ago mildenhall town had a friendly with derby as part of a transfer fee. And same thing derby sent the youth team. I dont think there is anything wrong with this was still a great game and exciting for the local fans. Although having said that kinkladze did turn up but only because he lost his passport si couldnt travel with 1st team

They could at least have sent Chopra couldn't they? Most of you gormless 'knowledgeable' supporters want him out don't you? That move would have properly p***ed him off.

Erm... It's only a bloody friendly, if you don't like it then don't go. Shows how desperate some people are to moan about something.
