Mings Misses Chippenham Return
Saturday, 13th Jul 2013 11:49

Defender Tyrone Mings misses today’s U21 friendly at his former club Chippenham Town having been pulled out of the squad after picking up a knock (KO 1pm). The game was arranged as part of the deal which saw the 20-year-old join the Blues in December and the left-back or centre-half had been looking forward to facing his old side.

Manager Mick McCarthy told the club site: “Tyrone has a knock and we don’t want to take any chances at this stage.

“We have Aaron Cresswell injured at the minute as well and with a game coming up on Tuesday at Gillingham, we are light on left-backs.

“It’s disappointing for Tyrone. I know he was looking forward to going back to Chippenham and we've reluctantly pulled him out of the squad but I’ve got to look at what’s ahead.”

Cresswell suffered what appeared to be a thigh injury at Crawley on Wednesday, having previously been spotted with an icepack on his leg at Shelbourne last Saturday.

Mark Kennedy is in charge of what is essentially an academy squad at Hardenhuish Park this afternoon.

Those involved include right-back Kyle Hammond, who featured in both first-team friendlies, Irish striker Cory Galvin, defenders Omar Sowunmi and Rory Thompson, midfielder or defender Matthew Clarke and striker Ted Bishop.

Team: Crowe, Hammond, October, Leddy, Sowunmi, Clarke, Winter, Trialist, Marriott, Lawrence, Timlin.

Runningout - you aren't happy unless your moaning ! Would you like MM to organise pre
season around you next year . As quite correctly posted on here by tractorblue99 this was always advertised as an Ipswich XI so if you expected a first team more fool you .

Mr Bobble hat.. Have been to about 20 pre season friendlies with the statement 'Ipswich Xl' with more than a few first team regulars or squad names.. not sure where some of these 'know it all' posts are coming from..

Running out - as I said yesterday sometimes first teamers are included if it suits but the whole point in listing it as XI is to warn people it's not the first team !

Just back from the Game. TBH not sure what the moaning is about, at town XI it was advertised and a TOWN XI turned up. The 30+ temp didn't help and a very spirited Chippenham Team and their bad mouthed keeper (who we should sign for the entertainment, and he's half tidy with the gloves - not that we tested them too often)

On a hard pitch and a 'MICRO' sized midfield the bouncing ball didn't help our game as we struggled to get the any service to the front line, Marriot never got a sniff. Chippenham huffed and puffed and a late free kick deflected on to the bar looked for a moment to have won the game for the bluebirds but stung into action Town broke down the left and a well finished blast from 10yrds was enough for the long trip home to Ipswich to be that much sweeter with a win an lessons identified for Kennedy.

Need to get this bunch is some 'Horse Sh**' and put a few inches on, too short and lacking ideas.

Young number 7 from Chippenham looked best player on the pitch (Lawrence played ok in the first half before being rested) Both our keepers need some kicking practice, as much as Chippenham need shooting practice. A half decent forward would have had 3+ goals against us today.

That said, BRILLIANT to see Town just 2 miles from my home, even it was a young team. Even better, I never get the chance to see the young talent on the way up, and yes I think they are on the way up too! Well done lads, lost £5 on Marriot not scoring, well done to the lads, I for one had a great couple of hours.

Crown 425 - of which about 200 mostly Local Town fans. Well done to those who travelled (nutters)

no scotrock, im not wrong. think youll find the poster in the sportscentre was wrong. I knew from the outset that it was an Ipswich town X1 as if youd read twtd at that time ud also have known. said straight away that because of that I wouldn't be travelling, whjereas had it been a 1st team friendly I wpuld have. mind you, common sense suggests itfc would not have sent a strong squad for such a game. and yes, I understand that may be frustrating for fans who live close to chippenham,

I understand people live too far away to attend matches regularly, but this was a friendly against a much weaker side (compare to out first XI), and since football is somewhat a business, not just for pleasing the fans, MM rightfully gave the U21's some actual playing time.

This was pointless and meaningless to everyone concerned and did no favours to ITFC. Don't care what the original posters said we should have sent a mix of players to make it worth while and to help Chippenham out. Surely that was the idea behind the match in first place.

I know he stated that he was injured but perhaps a bit naive to post a picture of him playing table tennis the day after on his twitter feed. Looks a bit dodgy
