Alan Lee Joins Academy Staff
Wednesday, 17th Jul 2013 00:58

Former striker Alan Lee has joined Town’s academy coaching staff, TWTD understands. The 34-year-old, released by Huddersfield at the end of last season, has already started taking coaching sessions at Playford Road.

Lee was with the Blues between January 2006 and August 2008, making 96 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring 34 goals.

The Irish international, who is still based at Dedham, subsequently moved on to Crystal Palace for two years, during which time he spent time on loan at Norwich, before joining the Terriers in August 2010.

TWTD is an academy sponsor, read more about the Academy Association here.

I liked him until he signed for Norwich. He'll have to create a goal machine with one of the young lads and redeem himself.

Welcome back to the Town Alan and I hope you enjoy your time helping with the coaching side instead of playing as most Town fans know you were a handy striker for us scoring at a average of 1 in 3 games which is better than some of our forwards done last season and lets hope you can teach them how to score on a regular basis

I'm with Michael11, his remarks in the press about wanting to score against us in a scum shirt lost a lot of respect for the man seeing as Town fans were sad to see him go. Although on the flip side, his loan at Norwich was also the season they went down...

he'd still do a job last 10 mins of a game!

I'm all for forgiving and forgetting! Taking on ex players as staff is good for the club in my opinion! They already know the club and what it's about.

As for Alan, he was such a hard working forward. If he can get some of our strikers to work as hard as he did up top then that would be grand!

Welcome back Big Al. COYB's!

Welcome back.
Despite his 'blip' playing for the enemy, still hold him in high regard. You could always count on him to score a goal and he was that 'hard working nuisance up front' that are always welcome in my team.
My fondest memory was the one he smuggled over the line late in a game at Hillsborough, think it came off his arse but it was v important goal....we went mental.
Alan Lee...GOAL...
Get the boots and guitar out Alan and find us some gems in the academy.

As a youngster I used to worship Alan Lee, he was my absolute hero. Now I just see him as a mercenary. He's got a lot of redeeming to do.

Welcome back Alan and let us hope you pass on your work and scoring ethic. For you folk remembering his comments at Norwich, try a bit of empathy, perhaps he was trying to win some support because the Norwich fans would probably have been fairly anti.

Alan Lee was my favourite player, then joined Norwich, quoted to the press about how he would love to score against us then cried at the Valley when they got relegated.

He was still a very good player and can hopefully help produce some more players like him, welcome back Alan

Never doubted his hard work but I'm sure I remember him scoring a quality goal one match and then missing a sitter the next match (I'm not talking about a specific match, I'm pretty sure he did it quite often)!

2009 - Lee told BBC Radio Norfolk: "If I score against Ipswich, I would have no problem celebrating the goal."

Read that how you will but doesn't sound like he would "love to score against us" to me. He'd be run through with a pitch fork by our northern bumpkin neighbours if he said anything else.

Forgive and forget I say.

Why the hell does it matter that he used to play for Norwich? Christ alive....I like beating Norwich as much as any Town fan, but it doesn't mean I have to display completely irrational hatred of anything which has ever had any association with them. It's weird.

Great signing by Joe Royle at the time. Lee had a good few seasons with us. Welcome back to the club Alan!

Who can forget the goal he scored about 5 years ago that nearly got us away fans bashed up by marauding Leeds fans, as it confirmed their relegation. I'd taken my father in law for his first ever game, and whilst not expecting a convivial atmosphere with Leeds fans involved, i didn't think about packing a spare pair of smalls. Needless to say, the father in law hasn't been with me again!

@TR11BLU

I know exactly what goal off his back side at Hillsborough you mean. He'd come on as a substitute about a minute before it. Went absolutely nuts when it went in!!

I've been a Town fan for 13 years. And in that time I can honestly say that Alan Lee gave me favourite live moment as a fan. Welcome back, big man!
